Report: CU to hire Shannon Turley as its new strength and conditioning coach. Thoughts?
  • Love it! Did you check out this guys resume? S&C Conditioning Coach of the Year nationally, with Stanford going 111-47 with three Pac-12 titles while he was there! Gimme!! (49%, 163 Votes)
  • I trust that Coach Dorrell and CU did their due diligence and made a good choice. Drew Wilson was a popular S&C coach, so Turley will have his work cut out for him winning over the weight room (43%, 144 Votes)
  • Still some questions about why he was forced out at Stanford. Let go because of a "personnel matter". Until or unless we know what the problem was, this will remain a black cloud over the hire (8%, 25 Votes)

CU one of five teams in the Pac-12 which will not have a player in the Super Bowl, making it five straight years with no rings for a Buff. Thoughts?
  • Just sorry that Kansas City waived Tedric Thompson in November, as he could have won a ring. At least KC OC Eric Bieniemy and KC QB Asst. Coach Joe Bleymaier will be there representing CU (46%, 84 Votes)
  • Not worried. There are only a grand total of two players from the Pac-12 South who are participating (including one from star-studded USC). This is more of an indictment of the Pac-12 than CU (28%, 51 Votes)
  • Sad story. There used to be more rings for Buffs (52) than there were Super Bowls (now up to 55). An indictment of the program over the past 15 years that there haven't been more Buffs earning rings (26%, 47 Votes)

CU announces that the Texas A&M game will be played in Denver on September 11th. Thoughts?
  • Not like this is a surprise - it's been discussed for some time. In a year when CU will need every dollar it can get, getting a large audience (and more TV money) makes sense (45%, 133 Votes)
  • My worry - since the game is not part of the season ticket package, the game could well turn into an A&M home game. Not good for the team - and not good optics for the school (36%, 106 Votes)
  • Not a fan. Texas A&M would have come to Boulder as a Top Ten team (perhaps Top Five). CU is giving up its home field advantage in exchange for the almighty dollar. Not smart (19%, 59 Votes)

TeamRankings.com gives CU (12-4, 6-3) a 97.7% chance of making the NCAA Tournament. Thoughts?
  • I would like to believe that the Buffs are a lock, but the five-game home stretch is followed by four straight on the road. It's still January - hopeful, but only cautiously optimistic (41%, 109 Votes)
  • Let's see ... Buffs lose to a winless Washington team, and almost lost to a 2-5 WSU team. Oh, and let's not forget last season's swoon. Not counting CU's tournament chickens just yet (33%, 89 Votes)
  • Love it ... Buffs were down 18 on the road, with McKinley Wright injured, but found their way to a road win. This team believes in themselves, and it's time for the Buff Nation to get excited! (26%, 69 Votes)

What about the CU Eligibility Chart numbers do you find the most surprising?
  • That CU will have at least nine returning starters on offense and nine returning starters on defense - pretty good news for a team which went 4-2 last season! (52%, 100 Votes)
  • That, in theory, CU could trim six players from the current roster, play with 85 this fall (plus the three seniors), then return ALL 85 players for the 2022 season (and no Recruiting Class of '22) (32%, 63 Votes)
  • That CU will have 94 scholarship players on the roster after February Signing Day, and only gets to keep 88. That means that six players must go (BEFORE we can talk about any more transfers coming in) (16%, 31 Votes)

  1. Stuart:

I like the question about SS’s negative coverage. Personally, I think the see-saw coverage is mostly about “stirring the pot” and/or getting clicks. SS is this year’s draft soap opera–a love/hate fest For one negative story there is a more positive one. Some stories are just hit jobs (anonymous NFL assistant/exec), others just cover every minutia of his life. Yesterday, Kiper has him still going early.

SS is an intriguing draftee warranting discussion, however the extensive overall coverage on every detail for one QB prospect seems over the top. NFL teams have their draft boards, needs, and evaluations and they make decisions based upon that. I’ll be glad when SS and TH are picked today and the focus will be on our team.

  2. The Buffs need to wear the silver and gold that are the official school colors. Black jerseys are OK as the’ve been around for a long time, but out with the black helmets–and the white ones too. Gold helmets with silver pants, alternating with silver helmets and gold pants would be good. Nix on all black and all white!!

  3. Stuart, your polls are so thoughtful and on point. Appreciate you doing this and sharing it with your CUAtTheGame community.

  4. Wouldn’t mind the Cheez-It Bowl at all, as I have connections at Kellogg’s (owns Cheez-it) who could get me tickets!! Is that Cheezy??? 🙂
