Tyson Summers out after two years as the defensive coordinator at CU. Thoughts?
  • You don't let go your defensive coordinator in mid-January without a plan. Let's see who Dorrell has in mind for Summers' replacement before celebrating (or mourning) (71%, 264 Votes)
  • I like it. It's a bold move by Karl Dorrell. CU's defensive numbers (31.8 ppg. in 2019; 31.67 in 2020) are subpar. Nice to see coach Dorrell is willing to take bold steps to improve the team (18%, 69 Votes)
  • Not a fan. Buffs have had three head coaches in three years, and needed some continuity. Defense played better this year, and almost all are back, but will now have to learn a new system (or transfer) (11%, 41 Votes)

Buffs overcome a ten-point halftime deficit (37-27) to take out Utah on the road, 65-58. Thoughts?
  • I'm glad to see the Buffs break an eight-game losing streak in Salt Lake City. There are still two more games this week, so there's no time to celebrate. Take the win and move on (quickly) (48%, 140 Votes)
  • A really nice road win to pick up. Buffs continue to show character in overcoming adversity. Bodes well for future Pac-12 games (and, dare we say it, the NCAA tournament!) (43%, 125 Votes)
  • This just in ... you can't fall ten points behind good teams and expect to come back. Fortunately, the Utes aren't very good this year (2-11 FT's helped). Can't depend on that going forward (9%, 24 Votes)

Which of the following quotes from incoming freshman quarterback Drew Carter do you like the best?
  • “I always said I’m going to go where I’m most wanted and CU really made me feel that way ... I love the direction coach Dorrell is taking the program" (68%, 159 Votes)
  • "I really love the relationship I have with coach Langs and (OC Darrin Chiaverini) … I can’t wait to learn from them and grow as a player" (22%, 52 Votes)
  • “My whole life pretty much revolved around sports ... I just want to be able to make my family proud, really" (10%, 22 Votes)

Which random factoid of the week do you find to be the most surprising/interesting?
  • That Colorado had five of its defensive starters named to All-Pac-12 teams in 2020 ... and all five will be returning for the 2021 season (78%, 199 Votes)
  • That former CU offensive lineman David Bakhtiari is the highest-paid (four years, $105.5 million) offensive lineman in NFL history (15%, 38 Votes)
  • That this week Bakhtiari this week broke a tie with WR Cliff Branch and DB Mark Haynes to become the first Buff to be named to five NFL All-Pro teams (7%, 19 Votes)

How would you rank CU's head coaching position when considering recruiting, facilities, staffing and institutional commitment?
  • In the middle tier of the Pac-12. The Buffs will never be at the level of a USC or Oregon, but can - and should - hold their own with most of the conference (63%, 170 Votes)
  • Probably in the bottom third, but that is changing. With improved facilities, and an improved commitment to athletics, the Buffs should see improvement in the 2020's over the 2010's (25%, 67 Votes)
  • In the bottom tier, I'm afraid. If you look at the commitment of the University, and combine it with CU's recruiting disadvantages, it will always be an uphill climb for the Buffs (12%, 32 Votes)

  1. Stuart:

I like the question about SS’s negative coverage. Personally, I think the see-saw coverage is mostly about “stirring the pot” and/or getting clicks. SS is this year’s draft soap opera–a love/hate fest For one negative story there is a more positive one. Some stories are just hit jobs (anonymous NFL assistant/exec), others just cover every minutia of his life. Yesterday, Kiper has him still going early.

SS is an intriguing draftee warranting discussion, however the extensive overall coverage on every detail for one QB prospect seems over the top. NFL teams have their draft boards, needs, and evaluations and they make decisions based upon that. I’ll be glad when SS and TH are picked today and the focus will be on our team.

  2. The Buffs need to wear the silver and gold that are the official school colors. Black jerseys are OK as the’ve been around for a long time, but out with the black helmets–and the white ones too. Gold helmets with silver pants, alternating with silver helmets and gold pants would be good. Nix on all black and all white!!

  3. Stuart, your polls are so thoughtful and on point. Appreciate you doing this and sharing it with your CUAtTheGame community.

  4. Wouldn’t mind the Cheez-It Bowl at all, as I have connections at Kellogg’s (owns Cheez-it) who could get me tickets!! Is that Cheezy??? 🙂
