No. 5 seed Colorado routs No. 12 seed Georgetown, 96-73. Thoughts?
  • Great, great win! 27 assists on 36 baskets? 64% from three? Walker 9-10 from the field? Wright's 13 assists? Awesome - just awesome!! (74%, 305 Votes)
  • I just love that the Buffs have picked up their first tournament win since 2012, and get that "can't get past the first round" talk about Tad Boyle put to bed for awhile. Congrats, Tad! (13%, 55 Votes)
  • I just hope that the Buffs can save some of this mojo for the second round. Buffs deserve credit for not succumbing to the 5/12 jinx (like many predicted). Let's see if the Buffs can keep it going (13%, 51 Votes)

CU gets a commitment from three-star quarterback Owen McCown, from Rusk, Texas. Thoughts?
  • Considering that it might be years before he'll play, I'll be patient. Get S&C Coach Shannon Turley and QB Coach Danny Langsford on this young man - and we could have a star by 2023! (48%, 172 Votes)
  • What stands out to me is that McCown is all of 165 pounds, and only had one other Power Five offer despite playing in the heart of Texas. Fingers crossed, but it's hard to get too excited just now (27%, 97 Votes)
  • A great pickup. Good bloodlines with a father who has had a long career as an NFL quarterback. Like that Coach Dorrell has a history with his father, and that CU got its QB commit early. Welcome! (25%, 92 Votes)

Which of the following football/basketball post-season factoids do you find the most interesting/disquieting?

  • That the last time CU played in a bowl and participated in March Madness in the same school year was 2002-03 (13%, 25 Votes)
  • That the last time CU played in a bowl and participated in March Madness in the same calendar year was 2016 (7%, 14 Votes)

Which CU news story of the day do you find to be the most interesting?
  • That in computer simulations, CU is projected to defeat Georgetown 73% of the time. Take that, prognosticators who are picking Colorado to be a 5/12 upset victim (35%, 70 Votes)
  • That CU, on pace all season to set a new NCAA all-time free throw shooting record, has now not only dropped behind Harvard (1983-84), but behind Oral Roberts (2020-21) (35%, 70 Votes)
  • That the CU women's basketball team earned its first post-season berth since 2017 (and might get a game against Nebraska in Round Two). Good luck in the WNIT, Buffs! (30%, 59 Votes)

5th-seeded Colorado listed as a five-point favorite over 12th-seeded Georgetown. Thoughts?
  • Sounds about right. The Buffs are the better team, but it's tournament time, and anything can happen. If the Buffs win by a few points ... that's just fine with me (61%, 167 Votes)
  • My concern is that Georgetown is just like Oregon State - a team which was playing with nothing to lose in its conference tournament, and which will come to Indianapolis with plenty of confidence (25%, 70 Votes)
  • Just bias against the Buffs for not being a "name" school. Georgetown had a good tournament run, and a name coach, but this is a 13-12 team. Buffs will be hungry, and will take care of business (14%, 39 Votes)

  1. Stuart:

I like the question about SS’s negative coverage. Personally, I think the see-saw coverage is mostly about “stirring the pot” and/or getting clicks. SS is this year’s draft soap opera–a love/hate fest For one negative story there is a more positive one. Some stories are just hit jobs (anonymous NFL assistant/exec), others just cover every minutia of his life. Yesterday, Kiper has him still going early.

SS is an intriguing draftee warranting discussion, however the extensive overall coverage on every detail for one QB prospect seems over the top. NFL teams have their draft boards, needs, and evaluations and they make decisions based upon that. I’ll be glad when SS and TH are picked today and the focus will be on our team.

  2. The Buffs need to wear the silver and gold that are the official school colors. Black jerseys are OK as the’ve been around for a long time, but out with the black helmets–and the white ones too. Gold helmets with silver pants, alternating with silver helmets and gold pants would be good. Nix on all black and all white!!

  3. Stuart, your polls are so thoughtful and on point. Appreciate you doing this and sharing it with your CUAtTheGame community.

  4. Wouldn’t mind the Cheez-It Bowl at all, as I have connections at Kellogg’s (owns Cheez-it) who could get me tickets!! Is that Cheezy??? 🙂
