CU likely to face former Michigan quarterback Dylan McCaffrey in its opener (against Northern Colorado). Thoughts?
  • Nice that McCaffrey will get to play for his dad, and the move will help generate interest for the game ... but if the Buffs are worried about the Bears, it's going to be a long 2021 season (62%, 206 Votes)
  • 'Means little. McCaffrey was a highly-ranked recruit, but wasn't able to get on the field at Michigan. A distraction, perhaps, but there has been no evidence that McCaffrey is a true threat (32%, 106 Votes)
  • Figures. Only CU would schedule an FCS opponent ... and get to face the No. 7 pro-style quarterback from the Class of 2017. Now I have to worry about this game? (6%, 19 Votes)

The best coaching move head coach Karl Dorrell made this week was ...
  • Hiring Shannon Turley as strength and conditioning coach. I don't know (and don't really care) why Stanford let him go. His work with the Cardinal speaks for itself. A home run hire! (69%, 196 Votes)
  • Promoting D-Line coach Chris Wilson to defensive coordinator. The team already knows (and likes) him, and was rumored to be on the short lists of other schools and the NFL. Sounds like a smart move (29%, 83 Votes)
  • Promoting safeties coach Brett Maxie to defensive passing game coordinator. An NFL veteran (both player and coach), he can continue CU's tradition of creating draft-worthy defensive backs (2%, 6 Votes)

Buffs turn a 65-46 lead with 8:46 to play into a 77-74 defeat to Utah (that's a 31-9 Ute run to end the game). Thoughts?
  • Boyle: "I'm not sure I've ever been more disappointed in a loss in my career" - that about sums it up for the Buff Nation as well (46%, 124 Votes)
  • This game is a pretty fair summation of the CU experience under Tad Boyle. He can lead a team to 20 wins (which is admirable), but CU will never be a tournament threat with this head coach (36%, 97 Votes)
  • Fortunately, the basketball season is a long one, and CU will have plenty of time to right the ship. An awful, ugly loss ... but it's only January. Still time to right the ship before the tournament (18%, 48 Votes)

CU announces that defensive line coach Chris Wilson has been promoted to the role of defensive coordinator. Thoughts?
  • Good news. Dorrell wants to win games in the trenches, and Wilson is a defensive line coach with experience at Oklahoma, USC, and the NFL - Wilson knows how to win at the highest levels (49%, 150 Votes)
  • I don't know enough to form an opinion about assistant coaches, but I'm willing to trust Coach Dorrell. He seems to be making good moves with the new hires. Fingers crossed (39%, 120 Votes)
  • Not super excited. The delay in the announcement likely due to Wilson waiting to see if Bieniemy got the Texans job. Wilson may only be CU's DC for a season - I'd rather have someone committed to CU (12%, 34 Votes)

CU to pay Texas A&M $1.2 million for Denver game, but CU gets 100% of the ticket revenue. Thoughts?
  • So, Texas A&M is guaranteed money, but CU has no guarantees that there will be any fannies in the seats. Could be a good move, but it's also a risky one (37%, 92 Votes)
  • I don't care if CU will be getting extra dollars from the ticket sales, the game should never had been moved from Folsom Field. Home field advantage should not have been for sale (35%, 87 Votes)
  • Love this deal. Figure 60,000 at an average of $100/ticket - that's $6 million. Even with expenses, this should be a boon for the athletic department budget (28%, 73 Votes)

  1. Stuart:

I like the question about SS’s negative coverage. Personally, I think the see-saw coverage is mostly about “stirring the pot” and/or getting clicks. SS is this year’s draft soap opera–a love/hate fest For one negative story there is a more positive one. Some stories are just hit jobs (anonymous NFL assistant/exec), others just cover every minutia of his life. Yesterday, Kiper has him still going early.

SS is an intriguing draftee warranting discussion, however the extensive overall coverage on every detail for one QB prospect seems over the top. NFL teams have their draft boards, needs, and evaluations and they make decisions based upon that. I’ll be glad when SS and TH are picked today and the focus will be on our team.

  2. The Buffs need to wear the silver and gold that are the official school colors. Black jerseys are OK as the’ve been around for a long time, but out with the black helmets–and the white ones too. Gold helmets with silver pants, alternating with silver helmets and gold pants would be good. Nix on all black and all white!!

  3. Stuart, your polls are so thoughtful and on point. Appreciate you doing this and sharing it with your CUAtTheGame community.

  4. Wouldn’t mind the Cheez-It Bowl at all, as I have connections at Kellogg’s (owns Cheez-it) who could get me tickets!! Is that Cheezy??? 🙂
