Which Pac-12 North team made the best choice for its new head coach?
  • Washington ... Kalen DeBoer is the only one of the new coaches with head coaching experience. He went 9-3 with Fresno State this year, and will bring stability and growth to the Huskies (45%, 114 Votes)
  • Oregon ... Dan Lanning may not be known to most fans, but he led the nation's best defense at Georgia, and is a strong recruiter. The Ducks will have the last laugh (34%, 87 Votes)
  • Washington State ... Jake Dickert took over in an impossible situation after the Rolovich firing, but led the Cougars to a win over Washington and a bowl. A very good start which will carry over (21%, 54 Votes)

Oregon hires Georgia defensive coordinator Dan Lanning to be the Ducks' new head coach. Thoughts?
  • Do I have this right? Oregon picked a Georgia DC (Tucker's replacement) with few ties to the west. Didn't Oregon learn from Taggart, Cristobal (and Tucker)? If Lanning is good, he'll leave (66%, 160 Votes)
  • Looks like a good pickup for Oregon. Georgia's defense was dominant this year, and Lanning, at 35, is considered one of the hot coaching prospects in the nation (20%, 47 Votes)
  • Color me unimpressed (and a little happy). Oregon didn't get a "splash hire", and that bodes well for the Buffs and the rest of the Pac-12 in closing the gap with Oregon (14%, 34 Votes)

CU receives a commitment from 6'2", 185-pound athlete from Georgia, Xavier Smith. Thoughts?
  • Trusting the coaching staff. Every new commit will be replacing a current scholarship player. Is Mr. Smith better than the DB he'll be replacing? We'll see (37%, 91 Votes)
  • A track star who played safety, nickel back, quarterback, running back, and kickoff returner this past fall? CU needs speedy, athletic players, and Mr. Smith checks all the boxes. I like this prospect (36%, 87 Votes)
  • A week before Signing Day, and CU is picking up a prospect from talent-rich Georgia ... with no offers from any schools I can find on a map? I hope this works out, but I'm not impressed (27%, 66 Votes)

Former CU (and San Jose State) head coach Mike MacIntyre named the new head coach at Florida International. Thoughts?
  • Good for him. While he didn't leave the Buff Nation on the best of terms, I do appreciate MacIntyre being able to raise the program from the dumpster fire left by Embree (61%, 201 Votes)
  • MacIntyre has found his level (like Dan Hawkins at FCS Cal-Davis). I can see Coach Mac being successful at another Group of Five school (21%, 70 Votes)
  • I couldn't believe Brian Howell's tweet that 31 players recruited by MacIntyre were on the 2021 roster. It seems like he's been gone forever, but it really hasn't been that long ... (18%, 59 Votes)

Signing Day is next Wednesday. Rate your level of enthusiasm for CU's Recruiting Class of 2022
  • Moderate. I'll pay more attention as we get closer to Signing Day, but it's not something I'm paying much attention to right now (37%, 117 Votes)
  • High. CU's Class is ranked fourth in the Pac-12, and it has a number of quality recruits. Can't wait to get these prospects on board with the Black-and-Gold! (32%, 101 Votes)
  • Low. I can't remember a year when there has been less hype and enthusiasm for Signing Day. I'll check in next Wednesday, but I'm not looking forward to it (31%, 98 Votes)

  1. Stuart:

I like the question about SS’s negative coverage. Personally, I think the see-saw coverage is mostly about “stirring the pot” and/or getting clicks. SS is this year’s draft soap opera–a love/hate fest For one negative story there is a more positive one. Some stories are just hit jobs (anonymous NFL assistant/exec), others just cover every minutia of his life. Yesterday, Kiper has him still going early.

SS is an intriguing draftee warranting discussion, however the extensive overall coverage on every detail for one QB prospect seems over the top. NFL teams have their draft boards, needs, and evaluations and they make decisions based upon that. I’ll be glad when SS and TH are picked today and the focus will be on our team.

  2. The Buffs need to wear the silver and gold that are the official school colors. Black jerseys are OK as the’ve been around for a long time, but out with the black helmets–and the white ones too. Gold helmets with silver pants, alternating with silver helmets and gold pants would be good. Nix on all black and all white!!

  3. Stuart, your polls are so thoughtful and on point. Appreciate you doing this and sharing it with your CUAtTheGame community.

  4. Wouldn’t mind the Cheez-It Bowl at all, as I have connections at Kellogg’s (owns Cheez-it) who could get me tickets!! Is that Cheezy??? 🙂
