The Athletic posts an article entitled "Hope for CFB’s (hopefully) not Hopeless", but Colorado was not a team mentioned in the article. Thoughts?
  • I'm just glad that Arizona is recognized as a program in trouble, along with Arizona State and Nebraska. It's been fun watching the Cornhuskers struggle, and watching Herm burn ASU to the ground (46%, 76 Votes)
  • Not sure what to make of CU's exclusion. Does it mean that CU is seen as being better than the teams profiled ... or that CU as a program is actually reached the "hopeless" stage (27%, 45 Votes)
  • Kansas, Vanderbilt, Duke, Indiana (historically), along with 1-11 Arizona ... Glad CU didn't "make the cut" in this inauspicious list of historical losers (27%, 44 Votes)

Which team in the Preseason Associated Press poll to you was the most overrated?
  • No. 47 Nebraska - The writer (Brett McMurphy) who listed the Cornhuskers as the No. 25 team in the nation sees the world through red-colored glasses. We'll put this one in the "whatever" category (43%, 113 Votes)
  • No. 14 USC - This is why the Big Ten wanted USC. A 4-8 team last year, the Trojans did significantly upgrade its skill position talent, but many questions remain. This is not a Top 15 team (29%, 76 Votes)
  • No. 11 Oregon - All you need to know is that Vegas has the Ducks as an 17.5-point underdog to No. 3 Georgia. Does that sound like a Top 11 team to you? (18%, 46 Votes)
  • No. 7 Utah - The Utes are the defending Pac-12 champions, and have a a great deal of talent coming back. But one of the top ten teams in the nation? Not sure about that (10%, 27 Votes)

With what you have heard and read to date, who do you believe will be CU's starting quarterback against TCU on September 2nd?
  • It really doesn't matter who starts against TCU. OC Mike Sanford has made it pretty clear that he expects both quarterbacks to play this fall. The starter v. TCU won't end the discussion (40%, 117 Votes)
  • J.T. Shrout - Word was that Shrout was in position to win the job last August before he was hurt. Lewis has had his chance, and has demonstrated some weaknesses in his game (36%, 105 Votes)
  • Brendon Lewis - I appreciate that J.T. Shrout is being every opportunity to win the position, but Lewis has the experience. So, unless he is clearly beaten out, he should be the starter (24%, 70 Votes)

Which comments from head coach Karl Dorrell after CU's first fall scrimmage did you find to be the most interesting?
  • Absolutely nothing. I did like that Dorrell had trouble with the question about whether CU has had any "bad practices". Apparently, CU has nothing but good practices. Nothing to see here (as usual) (30%, 63 Votes)
  • That the team got through the 90-play scrimmage with no major issues, and no major injuries. Interesting that Dorrell was focused on Buffs getting through 9-10 play sequences instead of 3-4 plays (27%, 58 Votes)
  • That the quarterback race between Brendon Lewis and J.T. Shrout remains "nip and tuck", but that the team feels comfortable with both quarterbacks behind center (25%, 54 Votes)
  • That walk-on running back Charlie Offerdahl is still turning heads and getting the attention of the coaches (not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing) (18%, 38 Votes)

Three weeks out from CU v. TCU (Friday, September 2nd, 8:00 p.m., MT, ESPN). Are you sipping the CU Kool-Aid for the 2022 season?
  • Depends, of course. If you are talking about CU being better than 129th in total offense - yes. If you are talking about CU having a winning season - that's a more difficult question (43%, 92 Votes)
  • No. It's not that I don't want to believe, but I am having a hard time believing. CU's roster lost more than it gained, and no one outside of the Champions Center is singing Mike Sanford's praises (31%, 65 Votes)
  • Yes. The college football world doesn't understand how big it was to get a new offensive coordinator, have competition at quarterback, and a fresh start. CU will not dominate, but will compete (26%, 55 Votes)

  1. Stuart:

I like the question about SS’s negative coverage. Personally, I think the see-saw coverage is mostly about “stirring the pot” and/or getting clicks. SS is this year’s draft soap opera–a love/hate fest For one negative story there is a more positive one. Some stories are just hit jobs (anonymous NFL assistant/exec), others just cover every minutia of his life. Yesterday, Kiper has him still going early.

SS is an intriguing draftee warranting discussion, however the extensive overall coverage on every detail for one QB prospect seems over the top. NFL teams have their draft boards, needs, and evaluations and they make decisions based upon that. I’ll be glad when SS and TH are picked today and the focus will be on our team.

  2. The Buffs need to wear the silver and gold that are the official school colors. Black jerseys are OK as the’ve been around for a long time, but out with the black helmets–and the white ones too. Gold helmets with silver pants, alternating with silver helmets and gold pants would be good. Nix on all black and all white!!

  3. Stuart, your polls are so thoughtful and on point. Appreciate you doing this and sharing it with your CUAtTheGame community.

  4. Wouldn’t mind the Cheez-It Bowl at all, as I have connections at Kellogg’s (owns Cheez-it) who could get me tickets!! Is that Cheezy??? 🙂
