Which of the following stories of the week brings for you the greatest "so what else is new?" shrug?
  • That CU players are saying that "This is the fastest the defense has looked in three years". We've heard a lot about great practices for two months - call me when it translates to play on the field (69%, 159 Votes)
  • That Nebraska extended its sellout streak - dating back to 1962 - via a donor who gave $21,000 to the University for discounted tickets ($10 each). Streak is a sham (and has been for years) (20%, 45 Votes)
  • That the Big Ten commissioner says the conference is content with USC and UCLA, and is not looking to expand. That will be the story ... until it's not. Nothing's forever, but all's quiet for now (11%, 25 Votes)

Do you think the "Interim Coach Bump" might apply to the Buffs?
  • I'm just want to see if the Buffs are still interested. If the team doesn't come out with fire this weekend (good crowd, beatable opponent), then they may as well forfeit the remaining games (64%, 135 Votes)
  • The other schools, with perhaps the exception of Georgia Tech, were expecting winning seasons this fall, so it's not a stretch to see them winning some games with interim coaches - not so for CU (23%, 49 Votes)
  • I don't see why not. Nebraska, ASU, Georgia Tech and Wisconsin are 6-3 with interim coaches, including two wins over ranked opponents. Why can't the Buffs enjoy a similar bump? (13%, 26 Votes)

Buffs a 14.0-point home underdog to Cal. Thoughts?
  • Well, since CU has yet to cover this season ... take the Bears and don't think twice. The Buffs this weekend will get halfway to 0-12 (44%, 132 Votes)
  • What stood out to me is that this is likely the lowest line CU will see the rest of the season. This was supposed to be one of CU's sure wins, wasn't it? It's been a long six weeks since Labor Day (34%, 100 Votes)
  • Considering how other Power Five teams have done after firing their coaches, this may be the week the Buffs cover, and - while I'm not predicting it - get their first win (22%, 65 Votes)

Arizona State upsets No. 21 Washington; Wisconsin and Georgia Tech register post-firing wins. Thoughts?
  • Sorry, but those other teams (certainly Arizona State and Wisconsin) had much higher aspirations to start the season than did CU. Don't look for the Buffs to go on a run - it's not gonna happen (56%, 185 Votes)
  • Whether the players want to prove something to the old coach, or to the next one, teams which fire coaches tend to play well early on. I hope that bodes well for the Buffs when they take on Cal (30%, 99 Votes)
  • I don't know why players play better after the coach is fired ... These are the same players, shouldn't they have played better before their coach got canned? (14%, 47 Votes)

Report: CU holding onto its Recruiting Class of 2023 commitments. Thoughts?
  • High school recruiting is not as important as it used to be. CU's next coach needs to be able to take advantage of the Transfer Portal if CU is to become a decent any time soon (53%, 112 Votes)
  • For now, that is. December signing day is over two months away, and recruits are in the middle of their senior seasons. Just as sure as God made little green apples, this Class will fall apart (27%, 57 Votes)
  • They say you're supposed to commit to a school and not to a coach, so perhaps these young men still believe in the University of Colorado. Good for them - we'll need them in 2023 and beyond (20%, 41 Votes)

  1. Stuart:

I like the question about SS’s negative coverage. Personally, I think the see-saw coverage is mostly about “stirring the pot” and/or getting clicks. SS is this year’s draft soap opera–a love/hate fest For one negative story there is a more positive one. Some stories are just hit jobs (anonymous NFL assistant/exec), others just cover every minutia of his life. Yesterday, Kiper has him still going early.

SS is an intriguing draftee warranting discussion, however the extensive overall coverage on every detail for one QB prospect seems over the top. NFL teams have their draft boards, needs, and evaluations and they make decisions based upon that. I’ll be glad when SS and TH are picked today and the focus will be on our team.

  2. The Buffs need to wear the silver and gold that are the official school colors. Black jerseys are OK as the’ve been around for a long time, but out with the black helmets–and the white ones too. Gold helmets with silver pants, alternating with silver helmets and gold pants would be good. Nix on all black and all white!!

  3. Stuart, your polls are so thoughtful and on point. Appreciate you doing this and sharing it with your CUAtTheGame community.

  4. Wouldn’t mind the Cheez-It Bowl at all, as I have connections at Kellogg’s (owns Cheez-it) who could get me tickets!! Is that Cheezy??? 🙂
