CU At The Game Podcast – The Yea or Nay Episode: Just How Will CU’s 2023 Season Play Out?

I am joined for this podcast by Brad Geiger and Neil Langland, and we discuss the latest news on San Diego State and it’s perilous position as it tries to maneuver its way into a Power Five conference. We also discuss the commitment of journeyman transfer quarterback Gavin Kuld, and what his addition could mean to the CU quarterback room this fall.

The main topic of this podcast, though, is a new “Yea or Nay” segment. In this episode, we take on the following questions about your Buffs:

Yea or Nay: Shedeur Sanders will set a new school record this fall for passing yards and/or passing touchdowns (current records: 3,200 passing yards and 28 passing touchdowns, both records set by Sefo Liufau in 2014);
Yea or Nay: CU’s Recruiting Class of 2024 will rank in the Top 30 in the nation;
Yea or Nay: The Buff defense will surpass last season’s sack total (a nation’s worst nine) in the first four games of the 2023 season;
Yea or Nay: CU will add a scholarship quarterback to the roster before the start of Fall Camp;
Yea or Nay: Travis Hunter will lead the team this fall in one of the following categories: receiving yards; touchdowns receiving; or receiving yards per catch; and
Yea or Nay: Shedeur Sanders will be CU’s starting quarterback in 2024.

  1. Damn Stuart, you make great points when you add details/info like:

    They changed the clock rules and the game is going to have fewer plays, so less plays to make those yards and scores. I still say and agree with your colleague(s) that it really going to depend not only on the line, but how the defense plays. Are the Buffs going to be playing from behind? Can the defense play well enough to give the offense opportunity? Can the offense sustain drives and get enough plays/scores.

    Great point on how the sheer size of the class mixed with the portal may limit CU’s class ranking, but again if CP wins early he’ll get some hot commitments (Blue Chips) and have a high per player average score while being too small a class to get a top ten class. Plus if the Buffs do as well as CP is saying/projecting, they will have a bunch of talent wanting to transfer in.

  2. The defense is gonna be good. I expect real good. They got the dudes and an Alabama attitude in the DC and his staff. The videos from summer are nothing. Junior is a distraction. It starts in camp.

    On the offense, I just wanna see what the OC says it is. Fast. See those linemen pulling and running as he keeps repeating. Want to see the running game be fast. Real fast. Real fast Real fast (Don’t wanna see 3 chev calls up the middle.)
    I expect the passing game to be there and be awesome. Got the qb and so many receivers its just so sick. The qb has a quick release and is a talent. O line surely has to block for him, but he is a talent.

    Go Buffs…………….show me the fast.

  3. My answers before listening, let’s see how they compare.

    – Shedeur Sanders will set a new school record this fall for passing yards and/or passing touchdowns (current records: 3,200 passing yards and 28 passing touchdowns, both records set by Sefo Liufau in 2014). Depends on if the line can protect him well enough for him to run the offense, if that happens the Buffs win and Shedeur could get there.

    – CU’s Recruiting Class of 2024 will rank in the Top 30 in the nation: If the Buffs surprise enough early in season it’ll be a top 20, if they go into LA 3-1 or better 4-0 then it’s top 10 baby and my money’s on CP for a top 10.

    – The Buff defense will surpass last season’s sack total (a nation’s worst nine) in the first four games of the 2023 season: Yes with games #2 & #3 giving the Buffs 2/3rds of them.

    – CU will add a scholarship quarterback to the roster before the start of Fall Camp: No, but hope I’m wrong? Maybe Kuld earns a schollie by the end of camp, if not then the staff brings another in if one of the others doesn’t step up and take the second position outright.

    – Travis Hunter will lead the team this fall in one of the following categories: receiving yards; touchdowns receiving; or receiving yards per catch: Yards per catch would be my first choice, he could less passes, but get big yards because of the situations he is used in. TDs receiving could be true too because of when they use him. I think the top two in receiving yards will be full time receivers; if Hunter is third, his YPC will result 1st downs and scores.

    – Shedeur Sanders will be CU’s starting quarterback in 2024. Buffs win many more games than expected, BUT come up short in winning conference or IF they’re one of the last 4 in the 12 team play offs and lose, then he’ll come back for unfinished business.
