First Pac-12 casualty: Cal's game against Washington this weekend canceled. Thoughts?
  • I'm just bothered/angry/upset that the Pac-12 didn't get its act together earlier. If the season had started earlier, there would have time for makeup games - but not now (53%, 111 Votes)
  • I'm not surprised. When California schools are involved, there is a heightened sense of awareness. This has me wondering if CU at Stanford next weekend is actually going to happen (37%, 78 Votes)
  • I'm surprised. We made it to Thursday before the opener before we heard that this game was even in jeopardy. Other teams and other conferences have been more forthcoming about potential cancellations (10%, 20 Votes)

Which of the following gives you the most optimism about the UCLA game?
  • That the CU defensive front seven is much improved, and will continue its upward trend from last November. If they can contain Dorian Thompson-Robinson, and force him into mistakes, the Buffs win (66%, 169 Votes)
  • That the game is in Boulder. True, there will be less than 1,000 fans at the game, but in this strange season, getting to prepare and play at home is still going to be a distinct advantage (25%, 65 Votes)
  • That the Buffs may have first-time starters at quarterback and running back, but they have a porous UCLA defense to go up against, and will have a game plan they have been honing for weeks (9%, 24 Votes)

Playoff contender Wisconsin has its second straight game canceled (v. Purdue). How would you rate the Pac-12's chances of getting in all seven games?
  • Low. With all of the issues in California, Oregon, Arizona (and now Utah) - and no bye dates for makeup games - it would be just this side of miraculous for every Pac-12 team to get in seven games (61%, 159 Votes)
  • Medium. There are certainly advantages to starting last, but no conference has been able to be cancellation/postponement free, so it seems unlikely the Pac-12 will be able to run the table (35%, 91 Votes)
  • High. One of the advantages of starting last (perhaps the only advantage) is that the Pac-12 has had the opportunity to see what works for other conferences, and make it work for the Pac-12 (4%, 11 Votes)

Which of the following CU roster revelations gives you the greatest cause for concern?
  • That the Buffs will be starting a true freshmen, Christian Gonzalez, at cornerback against a three-year starter at quarterback with a speedy receiving corps (43%, 128 Votes)
  • That Jarek Broussard, with zero career carries, is starting ahead of Alex Fontenot (injured) and Jaren Mangham (441 rushing yards in 2019) (33%, 99 Votes)
  • That CU is starting two sophomores along the right side of the offensive line (Casey Roddick and Frank Fillip) who have a grand total of four career starts between them (24%, 69 Votes)

Start Date: November 2, 2020 @ 6:14 pm

As the 2020 football season is (finally) here. What is your prediction for CU's record?
  • 3-4 ... There are at least four opportunities for wins, including this weekend against UCLA. I can see the Buffs picking up at least three wins along the way (34%, 109 Votes)
  • 2-5 ... It's a great unknown until the season starts, but the 2019 Buffs had a better record than UCLA, Arizona and Stanford. There should be at least two wins there (or one win and a Game Seven win) (26%, 84 Votes)
  • 4-3 ... With a bowl bid. I can see wins over UCLA, Stanford, Arizona, and an upset over either Arizona State or Utah, or a win over a North Division team in the finale (25%, 79 Votes)
  • 1-6 or 0-7 ... While they won't admit it, this coaching staff doesn't have the roster to compete, and it will take several years before they will be able to do so (15%, 47 Votes)

  1. Stuart:

I like the question about SS’s negative coverage. Personally, I think the see-saw coverage is mostly about “stirring the pot” and/or getting clicks. SS is this year’s draft soap opera–a love/hate fest For one negative story there is a more positive one. Some stories are just hit jobs (anonymous NFL assistant/exec), others just cover every minutia of his life. Yesterday, Kiper has him still going early.

SS is an intriguing draftee warranting discussion, however the extensive overall coverage on every detail for one QB prospect seems over the top. NFL teams have their draft boards, needs, and evaluations and they make decisions based upon that. I’ll be glad when SS and TH are picked today and the focus will be on our team.

  2. The Buffs need to wear the silver and gold that are the official school colors. Black jerseys are OK as the’ve been around for a long time, but out with the black helmets–and the white ones too. Gold helmets with silver pants, alternating with silver helmets and gold pants would be good. Nix on all black and all white!!

  3. Stuart, your polls are so thoughtful and on point. Appreciate you doing this and sharing it with your CUAtTheGame community.

  4. Wouldn’t mind the Cheez-It Bowl at all, as I have connections at Kellogg’s (owns Cheez-it) who could get me tickets!! Is that Cheezy??? 🙂
