Buffs complete sweep over Oregon State Beavers with a 61-57 road win. Thoughts?
  • Nice to beat a team we were supposed to beat, but the real challenge will be the home games against the L.A. schools. Tougher tests to come (40%, 93 Votes)
  • The best part? CU will now have a bye for the first round of the Pac-12 tournament (a first), and will have better bracketology seeding next week (38%, 87 Votes)
  • Great to pick up a road win (No. 5 this year, the most since joining the Pac-12), and finish the four-game road trip with a split. (22%, 51 Votes)

After two straight losses, CBS Sports has CU as bubble team (No. 12 seed). Thoughts?
  • And we're surprised? Just like last year, CU is beginning its late season swoon. The Buffs might still make the tournament, but as a low seed which will be bounced (57%, 117 Votes)
  • The last two games are not the season. In the NET Rankings (which the Selection Committee uses), CU is safely in the tournament - and will remain so. The Buffs will win again, and ease our fears (24%, 50 Votes)
  • I have faith that the Buffs are safely in the tournament now, but, if they lose the next three games (at OSU; UCLA and USC), then they will become an afterthought on Selection Sunday (19%, 39 Votes)

A year ago, CU was searching for a new coach. Which of the following candidates would you have preferred to have CU hire?
  • None of the above. CU found the right coach in hiring Karl Dorrell ... even though he wasn't on anyone's list prior to being hired by CU (62%, 200 Votes)
  • Steve Sarkisian (hired this year by Texas). If CU could have gotten him with a huge buyout (so he couldn't leave easily), he would have been the home run hire (29%, 93 Votes)
  • Another candidate ... Kansas City OC Eric Bieniemy; former UCLA HC Jim Mora; Air Force HC Troy Calhoun ... or someone else (5%, 16 Votes)
  • Bryan Harsin (hired this year by Auburn). Yes, it would have been another Boise State coaching coming to Boulder, but Harsin is more like Petersen than Hawkins, and would have done well at CU (3%, 11 Votes)
  • Bret Bielema (hired this year by Illinois). Bielema has head coaching experience (Wyoming; Arkansas), and has now been hired by Illinois - clearly a Power-Five conference caliber coach (1%, 3 Votes)

DL Mustafa Johnson (No. 228) and OL Will Sherman (No. 268) are on the Pro Football Focus Top 300 list of draft prospects. Thoughts?
  • For offensive and defensive linemen, it often comes down to measurables. We'll see how Johnson and Sherman do at their CU Pro Day event. Hopefully, they will impress scouts and move up draft boards (48%, 90 Votes)
  • To be drafted, players need to be dominant at the collegiate level, and I'm not convinced either player was dominant in 2020. I wish that they had stayed at CU for the 2021 season (29%, 54 Votes)
  • I would like to see their rankings higher, but I feel confident that both will be drafted in April. Sherman is the 11th Buff to leave school early - the other ten all were drafted (23%, 42 Votes)

Bracketology discrepancies: CBS Sports has CU as a No. 10 seed, while ESPN sees the Buffs as a No. 6 seed. Thoughts?
  • CU is probably somewhere between a six seed and a ten seed. It's going to be a tough schedule the next two weeks - it's put up or shut up time for the Buffs (66%, 129 Votes)
  • I'm going with the CBS seeding at No. 10. The Buffs are their own worst enemies, and have a recent history (last March) of fading come tournament time. At this point, I just hope the Buffs get a bid (29%, 56 Votes)
  • I'm more inclined to go with ESPN. This is a good team - a team which has beaten tough opponents. If they get their act together (read: no more bad losses), they will be a tough out in March (5%, 11 Votes)

  1. Stuart:

I like the question about SS’s negative coverage. Personally, I think the see-saw coverage is mostly about “stirring the pot” and/or getting clicks. SS is this year’s draft soap opera–a love/hate fest For one negative story there is a more positive one. Some stories are just hit jobs (anonymous NFL assistant/exec), others just cover every minutia of his life. Yesterday, Kiper has him still going early.

SS is an intriguing draftee warranting discussion, however the extensive overall coverage on every detail for one QB prospect seems over the top. NFL teams have their draft boards, needs, and evaluations and they make decisions based upon that. I’ll be glad when SS and TH are picked today and the focus will be on our team.

  2. The Buffs need to wear the silver and gold that are the official school colors. Black jerseys are OK as the’ve been around for a long time, but out with the black helmets–and the white ones too. Gold helmets with silver pants, alternating with silver helmets and gold pants would be good. Nix on all black and all white!!

  3. Stuart, your polls are so thoughtful and on point. Appreciate you doing this and sharing it with your CUAtTheGame community.

  4. Wouldn’t mind the Cheez-It Bowl at all, as I have connections at Kellogg’s (owns Cheez-it) who could get me tickets!! Is that Cheezy??? 🙂
