Does the outcome of the Northern Colorado game influence your opinion of how CU's season will unfold?
  • Still to early to judge. If the Buffs are completely dominated by Texas A&M (read: embarrassed), I can see the season going south pretty quickly. If CU can hang with A&M, we're back on track (46%, 149 Votes)
  • No. It's the first game of the season, and it was Brandon Lewis' first career start. The Buffs will improve, and it's not like other teams in the Pac-12 are dominating their first opponents (41%, 134 Votes)
  • Yes. If the Buffs can't dominate the line of scrimmage against a mediocre Big Sky Conference team, it's going to be a long season. Probably looking at 3-4 wins max (13%, 41 Votes)

CU defeats Northern Colorado, 35-7, to open the 2021 season. Thoughts?
  • What I'm taking from this: Brendon Lewis made a few plays, but he's a freshman, and will learn. Clean up the stupid penalties, and move on. 1-0 beats 0-1 (ask CSU) (49%, 166 Votes)
  • Yuck. I know that a 28-point win is not to be scoffed at, but anyone who watched that game knows is was a disaster for the offense ... and 117 yards in penalties. A&M is going to kill CU (37%, 126 Votes)
  • I know there will be hand-wringing over this game, but the defense (253 total yards - including 17 rushing yards - and only seven points), and special teams gives the Buffs something to build on (14%, 49 Votes)

It's (finally) time! Your prediction for Northern Colorado at Colorado - Friday, 7:00 p.m., MT, Pac-12 Networks
  • CU may not cover the spread (35.5 points is a lot!), but this will be a comfortable win. Buffs will go up by two scores early, then slowly but surely pull away for a three- or four-score victory (49%, 180 Votes)
  • Okay, I'll admit it: I'm a little concerned. Not that CU will lose, but that the game will be like CU/UNC in 2017 - a 28-21 game in the third, CU pulling away late for a 41-21 win. A nervous night (35%, 129 Votes)
  • Zero fear of this game. UNC is predicted to finish in the bottom half of the Big Sky Conference, and this Buff team has something to prove. CU in a rout - and that will be clear in the first quarter (16%, 56 Votes)

What to you was the best news of the day for the Buff Nation?
  • I like the Mustafa Johnson news. Even if Johnson won't be on the field for a few weeks, if he can be there for most of the Pac-12 campaign - that's huge. One of the best 2020 defenders back? Yea!! (71%, 250 Votes)
  • I like the Nate Landman quote: “I’m definitely not the same player ... I think I’m a better player". Landman was playing at an All-American level last fall before he got hurt - and he's better? (16%, 56 Votes)
  • I like that we now know for sure that we will have a Ralphie VI this year. It seemed like that was a real issue, so it's nice the tradition will continue (and the video? First rate!!) (13%, 47 Votes)

CU listed at one sports book as a 35.5-point favorite over Northern Colorado. Thoughts?
  • Can the Buffs win big? Sure. Will they? I don't know. Dorrell took the pedal off the gas in a couple of wins last year, and he was McCaffrey's NFL coach ... he may not want to embarrass the Bears (50%, 147 Votes)
  • Maybe, but that sounds like a tough ask. Isn't this the same CU offense which scored 28.5 points/game last year? I can see the Buffs winning handily, but I wouldn't bet on this offense to get to 40+ (36%, 106 Votes)
  • Sounds about right. CU will be focused, and Northern Colorado, even with the transfers, is still projected as one of worst teams in the Big Sky Conference. Blowout or bust, Buffs! (14%, 40 Votes)

  1. Stuart:

I like the question about SS’s negative coverage. Personally, I think the see-saw coverage is mostly about “stirring the pot” and/or getting clicks. SS is this year’s draft soap opera–a love/hate fest For one negative story there is a more positive one. Some stories are just hit jobs (anonymous NFL assistant/exec), others just cover every minutia of his life. Yesterday, Kiper has him still going early.

SS is an intriguing draftee warranting discussion, however the extensive overall coverage on every detail for one QB prospect seems over the top. NFL teams have their draft boards, needs, and evaluations and they make decisions based upon that. I’ll be glad when SS and TH are picked today and the focus will be on our team.

  2. The Buffs need to wear the silver and gold that are the official school colors. Black jerseys are OK as the’ve been around for a long time, but out with the black helmets–and the white ones too. Gold helmets with silver pants, alternating with silver helmets and gold pants would be good. Nix on all black and all white!!

  3. Stuart, your polls are so thoughtful and on point. Appreciate you doing this and sharing it with your CUAtTheGame community.

  4. Wouldn’t mind the Cheez-It Bowl at all, as I have connections at Kellogg’s (owns Cheez-it) who could get me tickets!! Is that Cheezy??? 🙂
