Four Pac-12 teams are double-digit underdogs this weekend. Which of the four has the best chance at an upset?
  • Colorado v. No. 5 Texas A&M (Buffs are a 17.0-point underdog). Hard to justify, I know, but I have a feeling about my Buffs. CU wins! (46%, 127 Votes)
  • California at TCU (Bears are 11.5-point underdog). Cal did lose to Nevada, but will rebound. Cal has enough weapons to stay with the Horned Frogs, and pull off the upset (32%, 90 Votes)
  • No. 12 Oregon at No. 3 Ohio State (Ducks a 14.5-point underdog). The Ducks are projected to be the Pac-12 champions, and will come to play against the Buckeyes (14%, 38 Votes)
  • Stanford at No. 14 USC (the Cardinal are 17.0-point underdogs). David Shaw will not be embarrassed two weeks in a row, and I'm not convinced USC will be a dominant team. Stanford wins! (8%, 24 Votes)

The Redbox Bowl is cancelled, reducing the number of bowls with Pac-12 tie-ins to six. Thoughts?
  • Actually, we'll have to see how CU gets through this next stretch - A&M; Minnesota; ASU; and USC - before we can start worrying about a winning record and a bowl berth (82%, 202 Votes)
  • While I wouldn't be excited about CU playing in this bowl, the reality is that the Buffs need as many Pac-12 bowl tie-ins as possible, as CU will be at the bottom of bowl pecking order (11%, 26 Votes)
  • What, me worry? Only six Pac-12 teams avoided losses last week, and CU was one of them. Ask the Washington and Bay area schools if they are concerned about bowl tie-ins right now (7%, 17 Votes)

The most interesting news of the day for me was ...
  • That DL Mustafa Johnson is back with the team and practicing. We won't get him on the field for a few weeks, but this is still a big bonus for the defensive line this fall (45%, 141 Votes)
  • That a sportswriter in Tennessee actually voted Arizona as the No. 20 team in the nation. I'm sure she meant ASU, but this just goes to show how little attention sportswriters pay to the Pac-12 (30%, 95 Votes)
  • That OL Frank Filip may be available as soon as the Minnesota game. When Coach Dorrell said Filip would be out a few games, I was afraid that was just overly optimistic coach-speak (25%, 78 Votes)

Colorado opens as a 17.0-point underdog to No. 6 Texas A&M. Thoughts?
  • Sounds about right, actually. I can see the Buffs hanging tough for most of the game, and the Aggies pulling away late ... or A&M building an early lead, and the Buffs getting a back-door cover (45%, 149 Votes)
  • The line seems low to be, to be honest. Anyone who watched Brendon Lewis v. UNC knows he isn't ready for the big stage. Maybe someday, but not yet (31%, 103 Votes)
  • Take the points! CU's offense was kept vanilla against UNC, and the Buffs still posted 35 points and won by 28. The Aggies don't have any respect for the Buffs ... but will after Saturday (24%, 78 Votes)

Pac-12 goes an uninspired 6-6 in the first full week of play. Thoughts?
  • One man's trash is another man's treasure: I don't care about the conference as much as I care about my Buffs, and I see this as an opportunity for CU to improve its standing in the conference (41%, 120 Votes)
  • It was only one week. If the Buffs get crushed by A&M, Oregon gets crushed by Ohio State, and Washington gets crushed by Michigan, it's going to be USC/UCLA/ASU/Utah or bust for the Pac-12 (32%, 93 Votes)
  • The mighty Pac-12 North goes 1-5 in Week One, and had Fresno State held onto its fourth quarter lead against Oregon, it would have been 0-6. No wonder the country makes fun of the conference (27%, 78 Votes)

  1. Stuart:

I like the question about SS’s negative coverage. Personally, I think the see-saw coverage is mostly about “stirring the pot” and/or getting clicks. SS is this year’s draft soap opera–a love/hate fest For one negative story there is a more positive one. Some stories are just hit jobs (anonymous NFL assistant/exec), others just cover every minutia of his life. Yesterday, Kiper has him still going early.

SS is an intriguing draftee warranting discussion, however the extensive overall coverage on every detail for one QB prospect seems over the top. NFL teams have their draft boards, needs, and evaluations and they make decisions based upon that. I’ll be glad when SS and TH are picked today and the focus will be on our team.

  2. The Buffs need to wear the silver and gold that are the official school colors. Black jerseys are OK as the’ve been around for a long time, but out with the black helmets–and the white ones too. Gold helmets with silver pants, alternating with silver helmets and gold pants would be good. Nix on all black and all white!!

  3. Stuart, your polls are so thoughtful and on point. Appreciate you doing this and sharing it with your CUAtTheGame community.

  4. Wouldn’t mind the Cheez-It Bowl at all, as I have connections at Kellogg’s (owns Cheez-it) who could get me tickets!! Is that Cheezy??? 🙂
