If you were USC Athletic Director Mike Bohn, who would you tab for the next USC head coach?
  • Cincinnati head coach Luke Fickell. He's been a success at Cincinnati, and Mike Bohn was the AD who hired him. Better the devil you know for such an important hire (42%, 116 Votes)
  • Other/the field ... Penn State HC James Franklin ... Oregon HC Mario Cristobal ... Utah HC Kyle Whittingham ... former coaches Bob Stoops or Chris Petersen (29%, 80 Votes)
  • Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer. Only one game into his NFL coaching career, everyone sees that this isn't going to work out. He'll be back in the college game, and USC is a plum job (18%, 49 Votes)
  • Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell. He has turned down other overtures, including from the NFL. With USC's resources, no telling what he could do as head coach at USC (11%, 33 Votes)

USC Athletic Director Mike Bohn announces that head coach Clay Helton has been dismissed. Thoughts?
  • Interested to see who Bohn will hire. He hired Hawkins, Embree and MacIntyre at CU (but also hired Luke Fickell at Cincinnati). Wonder who Bohn (and USC boosters) have in mind to take over (45%, 146 Votes)
  • Not really surprised. Helton has been on the hot seat for what seems like years. You can't get dominated at home by a (down) Stanford team and expect to make the College Football Playoffs (32%, 102 Votes)
  • I'm just sorry that Bohn didn't wait a few more weeks. It would have been a bonus to have CU's first win over USC to be the reason Helton was let go (23%, 74 Votes)

A week after going 5-1, the Pac-12 South goes 1-4 in Week Two, with Arizona State's win over hapless UNLV the only victory. Thoughts?
  • Too early to tell ... or to care. All that matters is the game against Minnesota. After that, all that matters will be the ASU game. CU can't worry about how well (or poorly) other teams are playing (72%, 257 Votes)
  • Not news for the Buffs. Had CU won against A&M, the Buffs would be undefeated and nationally ranked. As it is, CU has as many question marks as any other Pac-12 team (17%, 59 Votes)
  • Good news for the Buffs. USC crashed back down to earth, Utah was humbled, and Arizona is a mess. For a team looking for wins in Pac-12 play, Saturday's results were good for CU (11%, 39 Votes)

CU holds the lead against No. 5 Texas A&M for over three quarters, but ultimately falls, 10-7. Thoughts?
  • A missed field goal, two quarterback sneaks at the five yard line ... the Buffs had their chances to win this game. The coaches cost the players a chance to win (46%, 223 Votes)
  • It hurts right now, but every Buff fan should be optimistic about the rest of the season - and the Karl Dorrell era. This team is going to be good, and soon (41%, 199 Votes)
  • I am so proud of this team. A 17-point underdog playing against one of the top teams in the nation, the Buffs showed that they are for real (13%, 68 Votes)

It's time! Your prediction for Colorado v. No. 5 Texas A&M (1:30 p.m., MT, Fox)
  • The Buffs are better, but they are not yet ready for the national stage. I can see the Buffs covering the 17-point spread, but the Aggies will likely be in control throughout (49%, 126 Votes)
  • I have a bad feeling about this. The Aggie defense will harass Brendon Lewis into mistakes. It will be a rout - I just hope the Buffs come out with some positives (and no injuries) (27%, 70 Votes)
  • This team has been building towards this game for nine months. The coaching staff will have this team ready, and the crowd will be electric. Buffs shock the college football world with an upset! (24%, 60 Votes)

  1. Stuart:

I like the question about SS’s negative coverage. Personally, I think the see-saw coverage is mostly about “stirring the pot” and/or getting clicks. SS is this year’s draft soap opera–a love/hate fest For one negative story there is a more positive one. Some stories are just hit jobs (anonymous NFL assistant/exec), others just cover every minutia of his life. Yesterday, Kiper has him still going early.

SS is an intriguing draftee warranting discussion, however the extensive overall coverage on every detail for one QB prospect seems over the top. NFL teams have their draft boards, needs, and evaluations and they make decisions based upon that. I’ll be glad when SS and TH are picked today and the focus will be on our team.

  2. The Buffs need to wear the silver and gold that are the official school colors. Black jerseys are OK as the’ve been around for a long time, but out with the black helmets–and the white ones too. Gold helmets with silver pants, alternating with silver helmets and gold pants would be good. Nix on all black and all white!!

  3. Stuart, your polls are so thoughtful and on point. Appreciate you doing this and sharing it with your CUAtTheGame community.

  4. Wouldn’t mind the Cheez-It Bowl at all, as I have connections at Kellogg’s (owns Cheez-it) who could get me tickets!! Is that Cheezy??? 🙂
