What grade would you give the assistant coaches on offense hired by Karl Dorrell?
  • A B ... I like most of the hires, but bringing in Mitch Rodrigue to coach the offensive line is a bit of a puzzle - in Karl we Trust! (58%, 178 Votes)
  • An A ... Retaining Chiaverini and Hagan was crucial, and getting Danny Langsdorf to coach up the quarterbacks and be the passing game coordinator gives me great optimism for 2020 and beyond (22%, 68 Votes)
  • A D ... It all starts with the offensive line, and bringing in a high school coach to run the line is a disaster waiting to happen (10%, 31 Votes)
  • A C ... Chiaverini did not fare well in his first opportunity as an offensive coordinator, so it's hard to see this offense being much improved (10%, 28 Votes)

Report: CU to hire Brett Maxie as a defensive backs coach. Thoughts?
  • A good hire. Certainly has experience, and the combination of Tyson Summers, Demetrice Martin and Brett Maxie will help make the CU defensive backfield as good as it can be (41%, 149 Votes)
  • An excellent hire. Some 32 years in the NFL! His 13 years as a player will give him credibility with his players, and his 19 years as a coach gives CU fans confidence in his abilities (36%, 130 Votes)
  • To be determined. Yet another assistant coach with little or no recruiting experience. In Karl we trust, but I am concerned about this staff (including Dorrell) not having enough recruiting savvy (23%, 85 Votes)

What do you consider to be the best news coming out of Boulder Wednesday?
  • The reported solidarity of the Recruiting Class of 2020, including the "all in" statement by star DL recruit Jason Harris. Very pleased that this Class has remained largely in tact (80%, 291 Votes)
  • That Karl Dorrell indicated that he is open to a graduate transfer quarterback. CU may be just an experienced quarterback away from having a bowl-worthy 2020 season (11%, 41 Votes)
  • That reported hiring of Danny Langsdorf as quarterbacks coach. Years of experience as an offensive coordinator, plus recruiting experience in the west. Looks like a great hire (9%, 34 Votes)

Karl Dorrell: Some spring practices to be open to the public. Thoughts?
  • "We want you guys to come out and see what we do" - Coach Dorrell gets it! Publicity and good will for the program - win/win! (54%, 192 Votes)
  • Glad that there will be extra news for CU fans to digest, but since I won't be able to attend the practices, it's not really a big deal for me either way (28%, 100 Votes)
  • Glad to hear it, but I'm not sure it's a great idea for the new coaching staff to let the rest of the world know what CU is planning for the fall (18%, 64 Votes)

Report: CU to hire DB coach Demetrice Martin, DL coach Chris Wilson, and OL coach Mitch Rodrigue. Thoughts?
  • Are you kidding? Martin and Wilson are known for their recruiting, both have years of experience, and both have west coast ties ... and I trust Dorrell is right on Rodrigue (43%, 194 Votes)
  • Ever hopeful. These three new hires sound like they fit the bill, so I am cautiously optimistic. Ask me again in December after their first season (and first Recruiting Class is signed) (40%, 184 Votes)
  • The line hires are the most important. Chris Wilson seems like a great hire, but Mitch Rodrigue seems like a reach. Sigh ... (17%, 78 Votes)

  1. Stuart:

I like the question about SS’s negative coverage. Personally, I think the see-saw coverage is mostly about “stirring the pot” and/or getting clicks. SS is this year’s draft soap opera–a love/hate fest For one negative story there is a more positive one. Some stories are just hit jobs (anonymous NFL assistant/exec), others just cover every minutia of his life. Yesterday, Kiper has him still going early.

SS is an intriguing draftee warranting discussion, however the extensive overall coverage on every detail for one QB prospect seems over the top. NFL teams have their draft boards, needs, and evaluations and they make decisions based upon that. I’ll be glad when SS and TH are picked today and the focus will be on our team.

  2. The Buffs need to wear the silver and gold that are the official school colors. Black jerseys are OK as the’ve been around for a long time, but out with the black helmets–and the white ones too. Gold helmets with silver pants, alternating with silver helmets and gold pants would be good. Nix on all black and all white!!

  3. Stuart, your polls are so thoughtful and on point. Appreciate you doing this and sharing it with your CUAtTheGame community.

  4. Wouldn’t mind the Cheez-It Bowl at all, as I have connections at Kellogg’s (owns Cheez-it) who could get me tickets!! Is that Cheezy??? 🙂
