Week Zero games: UCLA 44, Hawai'i 10 ... Illinois 30, Nebraska 22. Thoughts?
  • Surprised by the UCLA score; love the Nebraska score. Savior Scott Frost is now 12-21 at Nebraska, and may not last the season. Time to go check out the Nebraska message boards! (65%, 178 Votes)
  • The Chip Kelly hype train will be in full bluster this week ... right up until the LSU game. It's Kelly's first non-conference win at UCLA. Color me skeptical - I'm not convinced UCLA is back (22%, 59 Votes)
  • 'Disappointed by both scores. I thought Hawai'i would be more competitive, and it's looking less likely CU will get to have Scott Frost across the sidelines from the Buffs for the 2023/'24 games (13%, 35 Votes)

Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff - If ESPN/Fox on board with Pac-12/Big Ten going to eight conference games, it could happen next year. Thoughts?
  • I like it. Give up a game against Washington State or Cal for a game against Nebraska, Iowa, or Virginia? Count me in (61%, 125 Votes)
  • We'll have to see how this unfolds. Would it be great to see Ohio State in Folsom? Yes. Would I like to see CU playing a game on the road against Maryland? Not so much (30%, 61 Votes)
  • Too many moving parts for that to happen. Perhaps in a few years, when College Football Playoff expansion, TV contracts, and realignment are sorted out. Someday, but not someday soon (9%, 20 Votes)

"It is likely that every spot (in the defensive backfield) will be manned by a Buff with plenty of experience in his back pocket". Thoughts?
  • Agree! Gonzalez and Blackmon will be recognized as "shut down" corners by the end of the season, and there is plenty of depth at nickel and safety (41%, 96 Votes)
  • There is experience, but I am concerned about the depth. If our frontline players go down ... the Buffs could be in trouble this fall (41%, 95 Votes)
  • Experience doesn't always equal better results. This unit produced only four interceptions in six games last season. If that doesn't improve, neither will CU's results (18%, 41 Votes)

Pac-12 to announce this week whether or not expansion (by taking in 2-4 Big 12 teams) is to be considered. Thoughts?
  • Absolutely not. If a new school won't increase the size of the television pie, it makes no sense. Why increase the number of slices of pie if the pie isn't any bigger? (37%, 98 Votes)
  • It's possible, but not for several years. Existing television contracts will have to expire and a new deal on the College Football Playoff will need to be in place before musical chairs begin again (32%, 83 Votes)
  • It's worth considering. With the Alliance in place, we are less likely to have defections, and getting a (recruiting) foothold in Texas makes sense (31%, 82 Votes)

The Pac-12, Big Ten and ACC announce a 41-school Alliance. Thoughts?
  • I'm just glad that we have George Kliavkoff and Rick George looking out for the greater good. This should help CU from being left out in the cold in any future realignments (43%, 133 Votes)
  • Much ado about nothing, really. No contract: “There’s an agreement ... to do what we say we’re going to do". Nothing stopping USC from skipping out on the Pac-12 - as early as tommorrow (38%, 117 Votes)
  • Great news! Take that, SEC (and Paul Finebaum!). The SEC and ESPN were trying to monopolize college football, and the remaining powers are unified to keep that from happening (19%, 62 Votes)

  1. Stuart:

I like the question about SS’s negative coverage. Personally, I think the see-saw coverage is mostly about “stirring the pot” and/or getting clicks. SS is this year’s draft soap opera–a love/hate fest For one negative story there is a more positive one. Some stories are just hit jobs (anonymous NFL assistant/exec), others just cover every minutia of his life. Yesterday, Kiper has him still going early.

SS is an intriguing draftee warranting discussion, however the extensive overall coverage on every detail for one QB prospect seems over the top. NFL teams have their draft boards, needs, and evaluations and they make decisions based upon that. I’ll be glad when SS and TH are picked today and the focus will be on our team.

  2. The Buffs need to wear the silver and gold that are the official school colors. Black jerseys are OK as the’ve been around for a long time, but out with the black helmets–and the white ones too. Gold helmets with silver pants, alternating with silver helmets and gold pants would be good. Nix on all black and all white!!

  3. Stuart, your polls are so thoughtful and on point. Appreciate you doing this and sharing it with your CUAtTheGame community.

  4. Wouldn’t mind the Cheez-It Bowl at all, as I have connections at Kellogg’s (owns Cheez-it) who could get me tickets!! Is that Cheezy??? 🙂
