Buffs beat Illinois-Chicago, 84-72, to run their record to 7-1. Thoughts?
  • Somewhat impressed. The Pac-12 doesn't have many very good teams. The Buffs may not be great, but they have played well in spurts, so there is hope for a decent Pac-12 run (51%, 149 Votes)
  • Not impressed. Buffs won't play at home again until January 10th. Let's see what CU's record after the Buffs have played some real competition (33%, 96 Votes)
  • Impressed. Balanced scoring + selfless play + McKinley Wright taking over in close games = a team which can make some noise in the Pac-12 (16%, 47 Votes)

How important is it to you to that Mel Tucker retain some of the current coaching staff?
  • Somewhat important. It would be nice to have some coaches in the fold to aid in the transition - and get some buy-in from the current roster (55%, 221 Votes)
  • Not important at all. The program needs a fresh start, and Coach Tucker needs to put his own stamp on the coaching staff (26%, 105 Votes)
  • Very important. With so little time to recruit, continuity on the staff is vital. Plus, it may be more economical to keep some of the old staff on the payroll (19%, 78 Votes)

What's your favorite Mel Tucker quote from his introductory press conference?
  • "Our staff will be extremely competent in the X's and O's and they will be relentless recruiters" (32%, 124 Votes)
  • "The expectations are high. You heard it from Rick (George); we're here to win championships. That's O.K with me" (27%, 104 Votes)
  • "There is a process. We will work that process day in and day out. All of the great coaches I have been around have had a plan. They have had a process that they implemented and haven't wavered" (22%, 83 Votes)
  • "We will be technically sound and fundamentally sound. It's not just about the Xs and Os. We'll always be able to rely on our technique and fundamentals, on both sides of the ball" (19%, 71 Votes)

Mel Tucker named CU head football coach. Initial reaction?
  • Excitement! As Rick George put it: "He has great experience and a terrific pedigree; I like the way he coaches football" (67%, 450 Votes)
  • Relief. To be honest, I'm just glad the waiting is over, and we can start focusing in on getting great assistants, and preserving the Recruiting Class (17%, 114 Votes)
  • Uncertainty. Tucker certainly sounds like a good choice, but he's never been a head coach, and has no ties to the west coast for recruiting. We'll see what sort of staff he puts together (16%, 111 Votes)

What is your biggest concern as to the 2-3 week process in getting to a new CU head coach?
  • Not concerned. The Buff Nation has engaged in too much hand-wringing over nothing. In Rick we trust! (52%, 246 Votes)
  • That the Recruiting Class of 2019 will lose commitments, without enough time to pick up new recruits (32%, 149 Votes)
  • That the new head coach (presumably Mel Tucker) won't have enough time to properly put together a top notch staff of assistants (13%, 62 Votes)
  • That Rick George did not get his first choice for a replacement (Ryan Day? Les Miles?) (3%, 13 Votes)

  1. Stuart:

I like the question about SS’s negative coverage. Personally, I think the see-saw coverage is mostly about “stirring the pot” and/or getting clicks. SS is this year’s draft soap opera–a love/hate fest For one negative story there is a more positive one. Some stories are just hit jobs (anonymous NFL assistant/exec), others just cover every minutia of his life. Yesterday, Kiper has him still going early.

SS is an intriguing draftee warranting discussion, however the extensive overall coverage on every detail for one QB prospect seems over the top. NFL teams have their draft boards, needs, and evaluations and they make decisions based upon that. I’ll be glad when SS and TH are picked today and the focus will be on our team.

  2. The Buffs need to wear the silver and gold that are the official school colors. Black jerseys are OK as the’ve been around for a long time, but out with the black helmets–and the white ones too. Gold helmets with silver pants, alternating with silver helmets and gold pants would be good. Nix on all black and all white!!

  3. Stuart, your polls are so thoughtful and on point. Appreciate you doing this and sharing it with your CUAtTheGame community.

  4. Wouldn’t mind the Cheez-It Bowl at all, as I have connections at Kellogg’s (owns Cheez-it) who could get me tickets!! Is that Cheezy??? 🙂
