What CU news story from the first of the week did you like best?
  • That CU picked up two new commitments for the Class of 2023 - a speedy WR and a 16-year old OL whose 6'3", 303 ... and still growing (40%, 65 Votes)
  • That CU is on pace to keep its season ticket holder base largely in tact despite a poor 2021 season and dire predictions for 2022 (38%, 61 Votes)
  • That CU has restored its "Athletic Hall of Honor" (adding Jim Hansen and Dr. Eric McCarty), and has opened a new "Legacy Wing", honoring The Twins (12%, 19 Votes)
  • That former Buffs Charlie Davis, Jay Leeuwenberg and Greg Biekert are among the honorees for this year's CU Athletic Hall of Fame (10%, 17 Votes)

CU receives a commitment from 6'2", 185-pound three-star wide receiver Wesley Greaves from Texas. Thoughts?
  • I do like the fact that Greaves had some two dozen offers, including from service academies and the Ivy League. This appears to be a common thread for this coaching staff - smart players to develop (48%, 75 Votes)
  • Good size and speed. A high school star who is certainly familiar with Power-Five football (coming from College Station). I'm good with this commitment (40%, 62 Votes)
  • A third WR commit from the Class of '23? Doesn't CU have enough good but not great wide receivers to choose from? Shouldn't this scholarship be saved for a lineman - or a future transfer? (12%, 19 Votes)

Which of the following quotes from CU athletic director Rick George did you have to read twice?
  • “We have some that want to come to us and talk about creating a collective and we’ll be in process of looking at what that looks like for our student-athletes, but we intend to be competitive". When? (43%, 50 Votes)
  • "We’re going to take a little bit of a deep breath ... By the time we get to August and those student-athletes come back, we’ll make some changes". Why wait? No one else is (42%, 49 Votes)
  • “We’re not going to put an eight-figure deal out there for a student-athlete. That’s not our focus". How about a six-figure deal? How about five-figures? (15%, 18 Votes)

Athlon on CU: "Outside expectations are low, but with a rebuilt staff and young talent, there is a quiet confidence". Thoughts?
  • I just hope that there is more than a little grain of truth in the quote. Buff fans need to have something to hang their hats on over this long off-season (64%, 82 Votes)
  • I can definitely see it. National pundits only saw the Transfer Portal defections and the schedules and drew their conclusions. Folks in the Champions Center know different (23%, 30 Votes)
  • Preseason magazines try and find SOMETHING good to say about each team. If when praising the Buffs, the quote comes with a qualifier. The next publication to predict a winning season will be the first (13%, 16 Votes)

CU wide receivers coach Phil McGeoghan promoted to assistant head coach. Thoughts?
  • Does this mean that some other team (with more cash?) was already after McGeoghan? If so, this might have been a good preemptive move. I hope that the recognition (and extra $$) will keep him at CU (57%, 82 Votes)
  • I like it. A popular coach with his players, and one of CU's best recruiters, it's good to see Karl Dorrell and CU recognizing Coach Phil's contributions (37%, 53 Votes)
  • Seems like a good coach, but he has yet to coach a game at Folsom. Shouldn't cash-strapped CU look to see results on the field before handing out rewards? (6%, 8 Votes)

  1. Stuart:

I like the question about SS’s negative coverage. Personally, I think the see-saw coverage is mostly about “stirring the pot” and/or getting clicks. SS is this year’s draft soap opera–a love/hate fest For one negative story there is a more positive one. Some stories are just hit jobs (anonymous NFL assistant/exec), others just cover every minutia of his life. Yesterday, Kiper has him still going early.

SS is an intriguing draftee warranting discussion, however the extensive overall coverage on every detail for one QB prospect seems over the top. NFL teams have their draft boards, needs, and evaluations and they make decisions based upon that. I’ll be glad when SS and TH are picked today and the focus will be on our team.

  2. The Buffs need to wear the silver and gold that are the official school colors. Black jerseys are OK as the’ve been around for a long time, but out with the black helmets–and the white ones too. Gold helmets with silver pants, alternating with silver helmets and gold pants would be good. Nix on all black and all white!!

  3. Stuart, your polls are so thoughtful and on point. Appreciate you doing this and sharing it with your CUAtTheGame community.

  4. Wouldn’t mind the Cheez-It Bowl at all, as I have connections at Kellogg’s (owns Cheez-it) who could get me tickets!! Is that Cheezy??? 🙂
