Colorado opens as a 6.5-point underdog on the road against Nebraska (Saturday, 5:30 p.m., MT, NBC). Thoughts?
  • Can CU develop a run game in a week? The Buffs barely beat North Dakota State, and Memorial Stadium will be as loud as the Buffs have ever encountered. I'm not feeling good about this game ... (39%, 99 Votes)
  • Sounds about right, actually. This will be a close game, so it would be a smart move to take CU, but I'm not ready to say that the Buffs are going to win this game (36%, 93 Votes)
  • Take Colorado and the points! This line is going to move down over the next few days, as the nation realizes the Buffs are going to win this game! (25%, 63 Votes)

Which of the following Neill Woelk Takeaways from the ND State game to you is most on point?
  • The Buffs learned a great deal, and still picked up a "W". ND State proved to be a good first game opponent - tough, but the Buffs were able to start 1-0 and build from there (55%, 123 Votes)
  • Unforced errors were kept to a minimum. Only three penalties (none on the offensive line); one (fluky) turnover. Discipline helped keep the Buffs in the game long enough for CU's talent to take over (24%, 54 Votes)
  • CU's depth has dramatically improved. The Buffs had some injury issues, but the backups stepped up. Defensive line depth helped in the second half, with NDSU having a big edge in time of possession (21%, 47 Votes)

Prediction after Game One: Will the Buffs be going bowling in 2024?
  • Much too early to determine. This is Week One, which means that this is overreaction Week One. Let's see how the Buffs do against the Cornhuskers and Rams before making this call (69%, 159 Votes)
  • Yes. CU has a very good offense, and good pieces on defense. There aren't too many games CU will not have a chance in, and the Buffs only need five more wins to get to a bowl (22%, 50 Votes)
  • Only if you are talking about going to a bowling alley. North Dakota State is a good FCS team, but is an FCS team. If the Buffs were on the brink against the Bison, where do you see five other wins? (9%, 23 Votes)

Colorado 31, North Dakota State 26. Thoughts?
  • No such thing as a bad win. Hoping the Buffs build on the good and work on the bad ... two tough road rivalry games ahead. Still, 1-0 is 1-0 ... I'll take it (54%, 187 Votes)
  • The Buffs have an elite passing offense, and the defense came to play in the second half. Tougher than expected, but glad the Buffs came through with a big win! (27%, 92 Votes)
  • The naysayers are going to have a field day. This was likely the least talented team CU will play all year. It's early, but it may be another disappointing season ahead (19%, 66 Votes)

It's time! Your prediction for the first game of the 2024 season. Colorado v. North Dakota State (6:00 p.m., MT, ESPN)
  • I can see North Dakota State keeping it close for a half, but the Buffs will (eventually) take care of business. The line is 9.5, and the Buffs will cover in the end, but it won't be easy (52%, 155 Votes)
  • It's been a long off-season, and it's time for Coach Prime and the Buffs to show how improved CU is ... Buffs in a rout! Enjoy the pleasant evening, Buff Nation! (27%, 81 Votes)
  • It's the first game of the season, and the Bison will be highly motivated. Don't underestimate the underdog. Not necessarily saying NDSU will win, but it will be close. Take the Bison and the points (21%, 63 Votes)

  1. Stuart:

I like the question about SS’s negative coverage. Personally, I think the see-saw coverage is mostly about “stirring the pot” and/or getting clicks. SS is this year’s draft soap opera–a love/hate fest For one negative story there is a more positive one. Some stories are just hit jobs (anonymous NFL assistant/exec), others just cover every minutia of his life. Yesterday, Kiper has him still going early.

SS is an intriguing draftee warranting discussion, however the extensive overall coverage on every detail for one QB prospect seems over the top. NFL teams have their draft boards, needs, and evaluations and they make decisions based upon that. I’ll be glad when SS and TH are picked today and the focus will be on our team.

  2. The Buffs need to wear the silver and gold that are the official school colors. Black jerseys are OK as the’ve been around for a long time, but out with the black helmets–and the white ones too. Gold helmets with silver pants, alternating with silver helmets and gold pants would be good. Nix on all black and all white!!

  3. Stuart, your polls are so thoughtful and on point. Appreciate you doing this and sharing it with your CUAtTheGame community.

  4. Wouldn’t mind the Cheez-It Bowl at all, as I have connections at Kellogg’s (owns Cheez-it) who could get me tickets!! Is that Cheezy??? 🙂
