Buffs head to Austin to take on former Big 12 rival Texas in NIT quarterfinals. Thoughts?
  • Hard to say. Texas is a six-point favorite at home. Hope the Buffs can keep it close, and then steal a win at the end (62%, 161 Votes)
  • CU is 23-12 and has won 12 of its last 15, while Texas is 18-16, and limped into the NIT with one win in six Big 12 games. Longhorns are pretenders - Buffs are on their way to Madison Square Garden! (24%, 62 Votes)
  • If the game was in Boulder, or if the Buffs had another day or two prep time, I'd take the Buffs, but I'm afraid the Longhorns are going to take this one (14%, 37 Votes)

Buffs take out Norfolk State, 76-60, in the second round of the NIT. Thoughts?
  • An excellent team win against a team which took out No. 1 seed Alabama on the road. Don't look now, but this team could take the NIT!! (59%, 162 Votes)
  • Glad for the home win over a MEAC team, but now the Buffs must take on Texas, on the road, on Wednesday night. I don't see the Buffs having the legs to keep up with the Longhorns (26%, 72 Votes)
  • This team is 23-12, one win away from tying the most wins in school history. Not sure if I'm proud - or concerned about the lack of MBB success in CU history (15%, 39 Votes)

What is your favorite Lance Carl quote about CU's assistant coaches?
  • "Tne thing they have in common is that they can all recruit. To a man, on this staff, they can all recruit" (57%, 158 Votes)
  • "They all want to be at Colorado. They all recognize the opportunity that they all have. They are excited to work for – and respect – Mel Tucker" (23%, 64 Votes)
  • Jay Johnson and Mel have told the guys: ‘I don’t care what year you are – we’re playing the best players.’ If it happens to be a freshman, straight off of a high school campus, they’re going to play" (20%, 54 Votes)

To you, what represents the "ceiling" for Colorado basketball?
  • Realistically? The goal should be competing for a Pac-12 title and an NCAA berth every season. Then, once in the Big Dance, make some noise (like the Sweet Sixteen) once in awhile. (72%, 184 Votes)
  • Hate to say it, but earning a NCAA berth four times in nine seasons (like Tad Boyle has done), is pretty darn good for a team with CU's history. Instead of complaining, we should be enjoying the ride (19%, 48 Votes)
  • National championship or bust! Every team should open practice in October with a goal of a national title, and CU should be no different (9%, 23 Votes)

CU No. 7 in the nation in Learfield Director's Cup standings. Thoughts?
  • Very impressive. Considering that the football team didn't contribute, it's great that the Buffs are ranked this high nationally (40%, 58 Votes)
  • If nothing else, this should spur Rick George to - eventually - add more sports. CU can be competitive on the national stage - if given the opportunity (37%, 53 Votes)
  • It's nice, but most of CU's point-winning teams (cross country; skiing) have been included. When other winter sports (hockey, wrestling, and bowling - bowling!) are added, CU will drop considerably (23%, 34 Votes)

  1. Stuart:

I like the question about SS’s negative coverage. Personally, I think the see-saw coverage is mostly about “stirring the pot” and/or getting clicks. SS is this year’s draft soap opera–a love/hate fest For one negative story there is a more positive one. Some stories are just hit jobs (anonymous NFL assistant/exec), others just cover every minutia of his life. Yesterday, Kiper has him still going early.

SS is an intriguing draftee warranting discussion, however the extensive overall coverage on every detail for one QB prospect seems over the top. NFL teams have their draft boards, needs, and evaluations and they make decisions based upon that. I’ll be glad when SS and TH are picked today and the focus will be on our team.

  2. The Buffs need to wear the silver and gold that are the official school colors. Black jerseys are OK as the’ve been around for a long time, but out with the black helmets–and the white ones too. Gold helmets with silver pants, alternating with silver helmets and gold pants would be good. Nix on all black and all white!!

  3. Stuart, your polls are so thoughtful and on point. Appreciate you doing this and sharing it with your CUAtTheGame community.

  4. Wouldn’t mind the Cheez-It Bowl at all, as I have connections at Kellogg’s (owns Cheez-it) who could get me tickets!! Is that Cheezy??? 🙂
