Stanford announces that it is cutting 11 sports after the 2020-21 academic year. Thoughts?
  • What's really scary is that Stanford has a $27 Billion (with a "B") endowment. If a private school like Stanford can't make the athletic department math work, what chance will public schools have? (35%, 72 Votes)
  • Just the canary in the coal mine. There will be more cuts like this down the road. "Olympic Sports" will be the real casualty if football is post-poned or cancelled this fall (35%, 72 Votes)
  • Not a big deal. Stanford has won the "Directors' Cup" for 25 straight years by fielding teams in fencing, rowing, sailing and squash. Welcome to the real world, Cardinal fans (30%, 64 Votes)

Which news of the day did you find to be the most disconcerting?
  • That wide receiver La'Vontae Shenault was arrested for DUI. I hope the young man learns his lesson, and that this not impact his future at CU (I also hope he learns not to drive in Ft. Fun!) (63%, 145 Votes)
  • That there is growing momentum for a shortened season - or a spring season. I guess we can see this coming, but it's disappointing nonetheless (24%, 56 Votes)
  • That linebacker Jash Allen has entered the transfer portal. While only a part-time contributor last year (28 defensive snaps), he was one of the highest-ranked recruits from the Class of 2019 (13%, 28 Votes)

Power-Five Commissioners: Power-Five Commissioners: "By late July there should be more clarity about the fall season". Thoughts?
  • Just whistling past the graveyard. Commissioners can read the writing on the wall, but are hoping against hope that things will turn around. Postponing decisions won't change what needs to be done (35%, 58 Votes)
  • I would prefer it if conference commissioners were talking more openly about options, like a late start, conference only games, or spring football (33%, 55 Votes)
  • Makes sense. There will be pro sports (theoretically) in action by then, and we'll have a much better idea if contact sports are going to be a reality for collegiate sports (32%, 52 Votes)

We are two months out from the start of the (scheduled) start to the season. Do you see anticipate being in Folsom Field this fall?
  • No. I can't see a scenario where I would want to put myself and/or my family in a crowd of 50,000 ... or even 25,000. (40%, 101 Votes)
  • Still undecided. We're edging closer to a plan for fans in the stands, but I'm not sure if I would go to a home game, or even if going to a game will be an option this fall (36%, 91 Votes)
  • Yes, there will be fans in the stands, and I expect to be there (or I would be there if I lived in the area/could afford tickets) (24%, 63 Votes)

What do you like best about the commitment from four-star tight end Erik Olsen?
  • That Olsen had almost two-dozen Power-Five offers, including most of the Pac-12. Olsen has more Power-Five offers than CU's other four commits combined ... a good trend (45%, 107 Votes)
  • That he is a Colorado kid. While CU needs to mine California and Texas to be competitive, you don't like to see quality in-state recruits leave the state - this is a good get! (43%, 102 Votes)
  • That Olsen looks like a ready-to-play-as-a-freshman talent. CU needs as many skill position players ready to go as possible, and Olson fits that bill (12%, 27 Votes)

  1. Stuart:

I like the question about SS’s negative coverage. Personally, I think the see-saw coverage is mostly about “stirring the pot” and/or getting clicks. SS is this year’s draft soap opera–a love/hate fest For one negative story there is a more positive one. Some stories are just hit jobs (anonymous NFL assistant/exec), others just cover every minutia of his life. Yesterday, Kiper has him still going early.

SS is an intriguing draftee warranting discussion, however the extensive overall coverage on every detail for one QB prospect seems over the top. NFL teams have their draft boards, needs, and evaluations and they make decisions based upon that. I’ll be glad when SS and TH are picked today and the focus will be on our team.

  2. The Buffs need to wear the silver and gold that are the official school colors. Black jerseys are OK as the’ve been around for a long time, but out with the black helmets–and the white ones too. Gold helmets with silver pants, alternating with silver helmets and gold pants would be good. Nix on all black and all white!!

  3. Stuart, your polls are so thoughtful and on point. Appreciate you doing this and sharing it with your CUAtTheGame community.

  4. Wouldn’t mind the Cheez-It Bowl at all, as I have connections at Kellogg’s (owns Cheez-it) who could get me tickets!! Is that Cheezy??? 🙂
