Which quote about CU's offense from the last two weeks of practices gives you the most optimism about CU's 2021 season?
  • Karl Dorrell on WR Daniel Arias: "He’s a completely different player now than what I saw of him in the fall ... He’s playing fast, he’s strong and big and he’s having a really good spring so far" (50%, 79 Votes)
  • "Super senior" OL Kary Kutsch: “I’ve made a jump every year ... The longer I spend here, the more my confidence builds, and that also helps ... I think focusing on (left guard) will help a lot" (33%, 52 Votes)
  • Karl Dorrell on RB Alex Fontenot: “Really what I saw on film in 2019 is what I saw Alex Fontenot do ... He’s gonna have some great value for us in our backfield" (17%, 27 Votes)

CU's offensive and defensive lines have been shorthanded due to injuries this spring. Thoughts?
  • Glass half full. As Karl Dorrell put it when asked about players who are on the field this spring, “They’re getting a ton of reps, they’re getting better and they’re seeing it, too" (56%, 105 Votes)
  • Not good news. Games are won in the trenches. CU is losing (rare) practice time, which will only hurt the Buffs come this fall (28%, 52 Votes)
  • Probably doesn't matter too much, but it will give coaches an out to not have much of a spring "showcase" next Friday, giving CU fans nothing to watch from December to September (16%, 30 Votes)

Which of the following quotes from head coach Karl Dorrell do you find to be the most encouraging (or at least most likely to be true)?
  • "I'm just really encouraged with what this team's doing right now ... We're so much further ahead now than we were at any point last fall" (68%, 137 Votes)
  • "All these players are practicing and working on their skill sets and learning our system are all chomping at the bit about getting some meaningful reps ... They're getting a chance to shine" (19%, 39 Votes)
  • "This team responds to constructive criticism, the constructive work we were talking about at that time" (13%, 25 Votes)

Which aspect of Stewart Mandel's "Plan" to save the Pac-12 to you rings the most true?
  • That the Pac-12 needs to "admit that football is important" - like it is in other areas of the country (44%, 100 Votes)
  • That the Pac-12 needs to embrace the streaming market with its next TV contracts, and get out ahead of the other conferences (39%, 88 Votes)
  • That the Pac-12 needs to lead the charge on expanding the College Football Playoff (so the Pac-12 will finally get an entrant) (14%, 31 Votes)
  • That the Pac-12 needs to do a better job of selling recruits on the advantage of staying home (3%, 6 Votes)

Folsom Field listed as the 19th "quietest" stadium among the Power-Five conferences. Thoughts?
  • Probably about right. With the way the Buffs have been playing the past decade-and-a-half, less-than-rabid crowds cheering on less-than-stellar teams could certainly look pretty tame from afar (42%, 73 Votes)
  • Hard to say ... but I'm just glad to see a ranking where CU is ranked ahead (behind?) UCLA, Cal, USC, Stanford (all four California schools deemed "quiet"?!?) and Arizona (32%, 55 Votes)
  • Not so. Not sure who was the rankings, but they put six teams from the Pac-12 in the Top 20 - clearly biased against the Pac-12. I've been to some pretty loud games at Folsom, thank you very much! (26%, 45 Votes)

  1. Stuart:

I like the question about SS’s negative coverage. Personally, I think the see-saw coverage is mostly about “stirring the pot” and/or getting clicks. SS is this year’s draft soap opera–a love/hate fest For one negative story there is a more positive one. Some stories are just hit jobs (anonymous NFL assistant/exec), others just cover every minutia of his life. Yesterday, Kiper has him still going early.

SS is an intriguing draftee warranting discussion, however the extensive overall coverage on every detail for one QB prospect seems over the top. NFL teams have their draft boards, needs, and evaluations and they make decisions based upon that. I’ll be glad when SS and TH are picked today and the focus will be on our team.

  2. The Buffs need to wear the silver and gold that are the official school colors. Black jerseys are OK as the’ve been around for a long time, but out with the black helmets–and the white ones too. Gold helmets with silver pants, alternating with silver helmets and gold pants would be good. Nix on all black and all white!!

  3. Stuart, your polls are so thoughtful and on point. Appreciate you doing this and sharing it with your CUAtTheGame community.

  4. Wouldn’t mind the Cheez-It Bowl at all, as I have connections at Kellogg’s (owns Cheez-it) who could get me tickets!! Is that Cheezy??? 🙂
