CU will have its highest ever salary pool for assistant coaches, at $3.455 million. Thoughts?
  • Nice to see at least some incremental increases in salaries, but CU is still way behind (Chiaverini was the 153rd-highest paid assistant last year). Fingers crossed we can keep some of the good ones (54%, 92 Votes)
  • I just find it odd that Darian Hagan - one of the best and certainly most loyal assistants - continues to be one of the lowest paid CU coaches (No. 464 nationally last season) (42%, 71 Votes)
  • I'm not sure if increases are warranted - at least not yet. There needs to be a run of winning seasons before we should be talking about increasing assistant coaches' salaries (4%, 7 Votes)

CU athletics department receives $12 million to rename the Champions Center the "UCHealth Champions Center". Thoughts?
  • I like it. It's like free money, as everyone will still call it the "Champions Center", anyway, and it will help the bottom line to get the first $3 million up front (50%, 84 Votes)
  • It's fine ... now, about the naming rights for Folsom Field. I know it may not be popular with purists, but CU is leaving money on the table every year the rights are not sold (35%, 59 Votes)
  • Not a big fan, especially since the UC Health Center hasn't been able to recognize that we are CU, not UC. And it will take 15 years to get to $12 million (15%, 26 Votes)

The LA Bowl has been renamed the "Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl". Thoughts?
  • Not a fan. I a) don't like having the Pac-12 be associated with what will be a national joke; b) I don't think bowls should be named after individuals; and/or c) I don't like Jimmy Kimmel (52%, 129 Votes)
  • Fine with it. There will be worthwhile charities which benefit from the proceeds, and, with minor bowls in jeopardy, it's good that the Pac-12 has a bowl with a new sponsor (34%, 84 Votes)
  • It's okay, but I hope CU doesn't find itself playing in that bowl. It pits the No. 5 Pac-12 team v. the No. 1 Mountain West team. It's the toughest draw of all of the Pac-12 bowl games (14%, 33 Votes)

Report: Arizona State football program "deliberately, blatantly and consistently broke rules related to hosting players during the dead period". Thoughts?
  • Amazing stuff. When you have "at least 30 players" visiting campus on what the coaches themselves described as "official visits" - even the NCAA can't ignore this (43%, 120 Votes)
  • All I know, if this was CU, we'd be talking death penalty. But ... since the info came from within the ASU athletic department ... perhaps Herm Edwards is actually in trouble here (33%, 93 Votes)
  • Yawn. The Sun Devils may get a slap on the wrist - lose some official visits; a few scholarships - but not enough to offset the recruiting advantages gained ... so no disincentive for future cheating (24%, 65 Votes)

Fictional 12-team playoff seasons - would CU have won more than one national championship?
  • I don't know. The 1971, 1989 and 1994 teams were probably better than the 1990 team. Who knows? But it is fun to think about (51%, 88 Votes)
  • Possible, but no guarantee. There's not even a guarantee that the 1990 team would have survived a playoff - that team was the first with two blemishes (a loss and a tie) to win the title (28%, 48 Votes)
  • Almost certainly. The 1971, 1989, 1994 and 2001 teams could have joined the 1990 team. And if there were multiple titles, CU would have had even more chances to win it all (21%, 35 Votes)

  1. Stuart:

I like the question about SS’s negative coverage. Personally, I think the see-saw coverage is mostly about “stirring the pot” and/or getting clicks. SS is this year’s draft soap opera–a love/hate fest For one negative story there is a more positive one. Some stories are just hit jobs (anonymous NFL assistant/exec), others just cover every minutia of his life. Yesterday, Kiper has him still going early.

SS is an intriguing draftee warranting discussion, however the extensive overall coverage on every detail for one QB prospect seems over the top. NFL teams have their draft boards, needs, and evaluations and they make decisions based upon that. I’ll be glad when SS and TH are picked today and the focus will be on our team.

  2. The Buffs need to wear the silver and gold that are the official school colors. Black jerseys are OK as the’ve been around for a long time, but out with the black helmets–and the white ones too. Gold helmets with silver pants, alternating with silver helmets and gold pants would be good. Nix on all black and all white!!

  3. Stuart, your polls are so thoughtful and on point. Appreciate you doing this and sharing it with your CUAtTheGame community.

  4. Wouldn’t mind the Cheez-It Bowl at all, as I have connections at Kellogg’s (owns Cheez-it) who could get me tickets!! Is that Cheezy??? 🙂
