How would you rate the status of the CU 2026 roster as it stands today?
  • Not bad. There is some quality depth in the offensive skill positions and offensive line, with plenty of time to build out the rest of the roster through the Transfer Portal (54%, 38 Votes)
  • Weak. Over 30 players are gone already, having exhausted their eligibility. With the Transfer Portal still looming, it looks like this will be yet another complete rebuild for Coach Prime & Co. (39%, 28 Votes)
  • Stronger and deeper than I would have imagined. The possibility of having eight returning starters on offense and five on defense is better than I thought (7%, 5 Votes)

Utah's head coach, Kyle Whittingham, will retire after the Holiday Bowl. Thoughts?
  • Four of CU's long time rivals: Oklahoma State; Kansas State; Iowa State; and Utah all have new coaches. If CU is going to take a step forward in the Big 12, Coach Prime, now is the time (57%, 89 Votes)
  • Not really much of a change. Defensive coordinator Morgan Scalley, was named coach-in-waiting two years ago. I don't expect much new out of the Utes going forward (31%, 48 Votes)
  • I hope this proves to be a good day for the Buffs. CU has beaten Utah all of three times since the two teams joined the Pac-12. Hoping for a decline in the Utes' fortunes (12%, 20 Votes)

Shedeur Sanders named the NFL Rookie of the Week for his 364-yard passing effort against Tennessee
  • Good news. Glad that Shedeur has been given the opportunity to show what he can do, and is taking advantage. No one is calling him a fifth-round pick anymore (62%, 76 Votes)
  • We'll see how it works out. Shedeur's numbers came against the worst team in the NFL ... and Cleveland still lost. Nice numbers, but still much to prove (25%, 30 Votes)
  • It wasn't planned, but nice that this is all coming after the end of CU's season, so Coach Prime can watch his son without attracting (negative) national attention about his dedication to his team (13%, 16 Votes)

To you, which of the following news stories of the week is the most eye-brow raising?
  • The firing of Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore. This has already been a raucous coaching carousel season, and Michigan's replacement hire could tip over another set of dominos (51%, 89 Votes)
  • The announcement that Utah is entering into a $500 million deal with a private equity firm. We'll see where this goes, but, for better or worse, this is a ground-breaking event (34%, 59 Votes)
  • Shedeur Sanders passing for 364 yards, the most-ever by a former CU quarterback. Shedeur will be the starter for the rest of the season ... so much for being a fifth round draft pick (15%, 26 Votes)

Report: Utah in the process of finalizing $500 million private equity investment in its athletic department. Thoughts?
  • All I know is that CU needs to find an infusion of serious cash - and soon. If there isn't a alumni billionaire who likes football, CU needs to look into other funding sources like private equity (67%, 94 Votes)
  • This will backfire on Utah, and every other program that tries it. Do you think athletic departments (and coaches) will like having private equity firms tell them what to do with their rosters? (22%, 31 Votes)
  • This is the way collegiate sports is heading, and Utah deserves credit for being ahead of the curve. If you want to compete, you need to create not just millions, but hundreds of millions (11%, 16 Votes)

  1. Stuart:

I like the question about SS’s negative coverage. Personally, I think the see-saw coverage is mostly about “stirring the pot” and/or getting clicks. SS is this year’s draft soap opera–a love/hate fest For one negative story there is a more positive one. Some stories are just hit jobs (anonymous NFL assistant/exec), others just cover every minutia of his life. Yesterday, Kiper has him still going early.

SS is an intriguing draftee warranting discussion, however the extensive overall coverage on every detail for one QB prospect seems over the top. NFL teams have their draft boards, needs, and evaluations and they make decisions based upon that. I’ll be glad when SS and TH are picked today and the focus will be on our team.

  2. The Buffs need to wear the silver and gold that are the official school colors. Black jerseys are OK as the’ve been around for a long time, but out with the black helmets–and the white ones too. Gold helmets with silver pants, alternating with silver helmets and gold pants would be good. Nix on all black and all white!!

  3. Stuart, your polls are so thoughtful and on point. Appreciate you doing this and sharing it with your CUAtTheGame community.

  4. Wouldn’t mind the Cheez-It Bowl at all, as I have connections at Kellogg’s (owns Cheez-it) who could get me tickets!! Is that Cheezy??? 🙂
