According to 247 Sports, seven of the 13 worst coaching hires in the past ten years involved Pac-12 teams. Which to you was the worst?
  • I'm just glad that two of the names on the list - Butch Jones at Tennessee and Les Miles at Kansas - were potential bullets CU may have dodged (62%, 111 Votes)
  • Jimmy Lake at Washington ... The hand-picked successor to Chris Petersen, Lake opened last season by losing to Montana ... and it went down from there. Washington still has work to do to recover (19%, 35 Votes)
  • Kevin Sumlin at Arizona ... Sumlin had a decent record at Texas A&M, but went completely south in the desert. Arizona went from decent to dismal under Sumlin (14%, 26 Votes)
  • Clay Helton at USC ... Helton won a Pac-12 championship and won a Rose Bowl, but never lived up to the expectations of the USC fan base (too bad he didn't have NIL to buy a team like Lincoln Riley) (5%, 8 Votes)

Which storyline from the CU at the Game NIL Podcast interviews to you is the most surprising?
  • That the players are very excited about the changes in the coaching staff, and to a man saying that this is the best combined staff they have had in Boulder (62%, 77 Votes)
  • That the dream of the NFL dies hard. Despite all evidence to the contrary about CU's success in the NFL Draft in the past decade, they all believe they have the talent to make it to the League (22%, 27 Votes)
  • That the players report that they do not, in fact, spend much energy on preseason rankings, and are confident that they will "shock the world" this fall (16%, 20 Votes)

CU fans offered the opportunity to vote on the nickname for Ralphie VI. Which of the options appeals most to you?
  • Blitz ... Ralphie VI loves to run fast, and often picks up her speed and blitzes home as soon as she sees her trailer at the end of the run (50%, 104 Votes)
  • Ember ... When a wildfire threatened the ranch she was staying at, Ralphie Handlers jumped to action and brought her to Colorado to begin her training (24%, 50 Votes)
  • Sixer ... The sixth mascot to officially represent CU, this name pays homage to the legacy of buffalo who have come before her and served as Ralphie (14%, 29 Votes)
  • Tini ... Ralphie VI was the smallest and youngest buffalo to ever debut as CU's mascot, weighing in at about 400 pounds before her first game. (Pronounced "Teeny") (12%, 26 Votes)

CU opens with national telecasts on ESPN (TCU), CBS (at Air Force) and ESPN2 (at Minnesota). Thoughts?
  • Love it. Colorado traditionally plays a difficult non-conference schedule, and it's nice to see the team rewarded by getting national exposure instead of being buried on the Pac-12 Networks (65%, 118 Votes)
  • Not excited. Colorado traditionally plays a difficult non-conference schedule, and that has contributed to CU having losing seasons for decades. I'd rather be 3-0, thank you very much (19%, 35 Votes)
  • I like the 1:30 MT kickoffs for the Air Force and Minnesota games, but the later start for the TCU game (8:00 p.m., MT) will likely cut down on attendance, and the Buffs need all the help they can get (16%, 28 Votes)

Game time for CU at Air Force has been set: Saturday, September 10th, 1:30 p.m., MT, on CBS. Thoughts?
  • Great news! A national CBS national broadcast. If this doesn't get the Buffs fired up to take care of business against the Falcons, and make a national statement, nothing will (49%, 87 Votes)
  • I'm just surprised that this is the first broadcast for CU on CBS since 1996. I'm old enough to remember some very big games in the early 90's being on CBS (33%, 58 Votes)
  • Not a big fan, actually. I hate to say it, but with the state of the program being what it is right now, the idea of an embarrassing loss to a Mountain West team has me worried (18%, 33 Votes)

  1. Stuart:

I like the question about SS’s negative coverage. Personally, I think the see-saw coverage is mostly about “stirring the pot” and/or getting clicks. SS is this year’s draft soap opera–a love/hate fest For one negative story there is a more positive one. Some stories are just hit jobs (anonymous NFL assistant/exec), others just cover every minutia of his life. Yesterday, Kiper has him still going early.

SS is an intriguing draftee warranting discussion, however the extensive overall coverage on every detail for one QB prospect seems over the top. NFL teams have their draft boards, needs, and evaluations and they make decisions based upon that. I’ll be glad when SS and TH are picked today and the focus will be on our team.

  2. The Buffs need to wear the silver and gold that are the official school colors. Black jerseys are OK as the’ve been around for a long time, but out with the black helmets–and the white ones too. Gold helmets with silver pants, alternating with silver helmets and gold pants would be good. Nix on all black and all white!!

  3. Stuart, your polls are so thoughtful and on point. Appreciate you doing this and sharing it with your CUAtTheGame community.

  4. Wouldn’t mind the Cheez-It Bowl at all, as I have connections at Kellogg’s (owns Cheez-it) who could get me tickets!! Is that Cheezy??? 🙂
