If CU ran up a $37 million deficit in its budget, but won the Big 12 and earned a CFP berth, would it be worth it?
  • The question is skewed. Is a Big 12 title worth a $37 million loss? Probably not. Now, if you are talking about a national championship in exchange for mortgaging the future, I might be persuaded (50%, 105 Votes)
  • No! Ohio State operates in a different world. The stadium holds twice as many, the alumni base is astronomical, and Big Ten revenues will only go up. CU can't gamble away its future like that (34%, 71 Votes)
  • Yes! The long term benefits: increased ticket sales, merchandise sales, media revenue, donations (and an invite to stay when the super conferences are formed) would justify the losses up front (16%, 32 Votes)

First-year Big 12 coaches at Houston and Arizona this past season didn't fare well. Thoughts on first-year head coaches Scott Frost (UCF) and Rich Rodriguez (West Virginia)?
  • When Rodriguez was at WVU, the Mountaineers were in the Big East; Scott's Knights were in the American Athletic Conference. The Big 12 is a different animal, and won't be so easy (82%, 122 Votes)
  • Rodriguez went 60-26 at West Virginia with four conference titles, and, of course, Scott Frost won a "national championship" during his first stint at UCF. They know what it takes to win (9%, 14 Votes)
  • Two retreads who left their respective schools for better gigs. If I were a fan of the Knights or the Mountaineers, I would be less than welcoming - and concerned wins would lead to another departure (9%, 13 Votes)

Is it time for CU to move on from Tad Boyle as head coach of the men's basketball team?
  • No. Tad Boyle has FOUR TIMES as many post-season victories as any other CU head coach, and the Buffs had two wins in The Dance last spring. A rough year, but not time to panic (47%, 128 Votes)
  • The Buffs are 0-8 in Big 12 play, with no realistic reason to believe that is going to turn around any time soon. Tad gets this year, but if we are in this spot next season, it will be his last (43%, 115 Votes)
  • Yes. Only six teams in the "Power Six" conferences have failed to reach a Sweet Sixteen in the 64-team era. Boyle can't recruit, or coach, in a Big 12 conference with this much talent top to bottom (10%, 27 Votes)

Will Shedeur Sanders or Travis Hunter be the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft?
  • No. I can see both Shedeur and Travis going in the top five in April, but there are other good options (like Cam Ward) for No. 1, and there are too many variables to predict a Buff going No. 1 (47%, 71 Votes)
  • Yes. Travis Hunter is a unicorn who can star in the NFL at two positions. Yes, he will primarily play cornerback, but will also shine as a part time wide receiver. Some NFL team will figure that out (29%, 44 Votes)
  • Yes. Tennessee has the No. 1 overall pick, and Shedeur has already impressed the head coach. I can see Shedeur going first to Tennessee (or to Las Vegas if the Raiders trade up) (24%, 36 Votes)

When will the Coach Prime contract extension be announced?
  • Between now and the Super Bowl. Coach Prime will figure out the time for maximum exposure (perhaps during the Super Bowl pregame?). At least Dallas is out of the picture (55%, 89 Votes)
  • Monday at the latest. Everyone who is even remotely close to the situation keeps saying it's a done deal, and we have no reason not to believe them. Go about your business - it'll happen (27%, 44 Votes)
  • I'm beginning to wonder if it will happen. Coach Mac's memorial is behind us, as is the Regents' meeting (Thursday). Coach Prime is already under contract for five years. No new contract required (18%, 29 Votes)

  1. Stuart:

I like the question about SS’s negative coverage. Personally, I think the see-saw coverage is mostly about “stirring the pot” and/or getting clicks. SS is this year’s draft soap opera–a love/hate fest For one negative story there is a more positive one. Some stories are just hit jobs (anonymous NFL assistant/exec), others just cover every minutia of his life. Yesterday, Kiper has him still going early.

SS is an intriguing draftee warranting discussion, however the extensive overall coverage on every detail for one QB prospect seems over the top. NFL teams have their draft boards, needs, and evaluations and they make decisions based upon that. I’ll be glad when SS and TH are picked today and the focus will be on our team.

  2. The Buffs need to wear the silver and gold that are the official school colors. Black jerseys are OK as the’ve been around for a long time, but out with the black helmets–and the white ones too. Gold helmets with silver pants, alternating with silver helmets and gold pants would be good. Nix on all black and all white!!

  3. Stuart, your polls are so thoughtful and on point. Appreciate you doing this and sharing it with your CUAtTheGame community.

  4. Wouldn’t mind the Cheez-It Bowl at all, as I have connections at Kellogg’s (owns Cheez-it) who could get me tickets!! Is that Cheezy??? 🙂
