The "much-maligned" Pac-12 has five teams in the preseason USA Today/Coaches poll. Thoughts?
  • Just goes to show you it's a beauty pageant. Nebraska (4-8 last year) is in at No. 26; while UCLA (3-9) also received votes. What a joke! (62%, 145 Votes)
  • It just goes to show you that CU's schedule is going to be tough. Nine of CU's 12 opponents received votes in the preseason coaches' poll - yikes! (31%, 72 Votes)
  • Just goes to show you that the Pac-12 is stronger and deeper than it's given credit for in the off-season. The Pac-12 is doing just fine, thank you very much (7%, 18 Votes)

My favorite quote from Part I of the Darrin Chiaverini interview:
  • "For me, it’s not hard to sell Colorado. When you are at other places, you are trying to sell the brand of the school that you are at. But I am a Buff. I know what it’s like to play in Folsom" (41%, 79 Votes)
  • "Every school it is going to be different, but for us, under Mel Tucker, we are going to be aggressive in offering kids, so our offer sheet is going to be long" (35%, 68 Votes)
  • "You have to have competition in your room, or it won’t elevate their play. They will get complacent because no one is pushing them from behind" (24%, 47 Votes)

Should attendance at the game be a deciding factor for CU should the Buffs be asked to play a 10:00 a.m., Pac-12 home game?
  • I don't think it matters. If CU puts a quality product on the field, against a quality opponent, fans will find a way to the game. If it's a rarity (read: novelty), it might even boost attendance (61%, 177 Votes)
  • No. At the end of the day, it's all about building the CU brand. If the Buffs are playing Washington, Stanford or USC in a nationally televised game, the nation will tune in to watch (20%, 57 Votes)
  • Yes. CU is working hard to rebuild its fan base, and early starts will keep fans away (and don't get me started on the student section showing up at 10:00 a.m.) (19%, 54 Votes)

  1. Stuart:

I like the question about SS’s negative coverage. Personally, I think the see-saw coverage is mostly about “stirring the pot” and/or getting clicks. SS is this year’s draft soap opera–a love/hate fest For one negative story there is a more positive one. Some stories are just hit jobs (anonymous NFL assistant/exec), others just cover every minutia of his life. Yesterday, Kiper has him still going early.

SS is an intriguing draftee warranting discussion, however the extensive overall coverage on every detail for one QB prospect seems over the top. NFL teams have their draft boards, needs, and evaluations and they make decisions based upon that. I’ll be glad when SS and TH are picked today and the focus will be on our team.

  2. The Buffs need to wear the silver and gold that are the official school colors. Black jerseys are OK as the’ve been around for a long time, but out with the black helmets–and the white ones too. Gold helmets with silver pants, alternating with silver helmets and gold pants would be good. Nix on all black and all white!!

  3. Stuart, your polls are so thoughtful and on point. Appreciate you doing this and sharing it with your CUAtTheGame community.

  4. Wouldn’t mind the Cheez-It Bowl at all, as I have connections at Kellogg’s (owns Cheez-it) who could get me tickets!! Is that Cheezy??? 🙂
