What was the biggest (pleasant) surprise of the week for CU athletics?
  • That the CU men's basketball team picked up only its second-ever road win against Arizona State (52%, 105 Votes)
  • That Taylor Kornieck, CU’s all-time leader in points, was selected third overall by the Orlando Pride in the National Women's Soccer League draft (25%, 50 Votes)
  • That the CU women's basketball team - picked to finish last by the Pac-12 media - is currently projected as a No. 12 seed in the NCAA tournament (23%, 46 Votes)

The CU 2020 schedule has finally been released. What first impression jumps out at you the most?
  • That the Buffs will play two highly ranked teams - Texas A&M and Oregon - in back-to-back games in September. We will know early on this fall if the Buffs are for real (55%, 142 Votes)
  • That the Buffs play at Arizona, then play at home against UCLA and Arizona State, in October. Win those three games, and the Buffs will be going bowling. The schedule in October is ripe for a run (36%, 93 Votes)
  • That the Buffs will be playing in the Coliseum on Halloween. Hopefully, that holiday will bring tricks instead of treats to the Trojans, and the Buffs will pick up their first-ever win over USC (9%, 22 Votes)

How will the Buffs fare in the desert this weekend (Thursday night v. Arizona State; Saturday v. Arizona)?
  • I'll go with a split. The Sun Devils were without three top players in the game played in China, and Tucson is a tough place to play. Not sure which one the Buffs will win, but they'll win one (50%, 124 Votes)
  • I'm predicting a sweep by the Buffs. Arizona has lost four-of-five; Arizona State has lost two-of-three. If ever there was a time for a good CU team to take out these schools on the road, it's now (37%, 93 Votes)
  • Umm ... CU has exactly one all-time win against ASU in Tempe (2012), and hasn't beaten Arizona in Tucson since, well, 1960. Buffs play it close, but I wouldn't be surprised if they lost both games (13%, 33 Votes)

Washington State hires Hawai'i coach Nick Rolovich as its new head coach. Thoughts?
  • Not news. Mel Tucker & Co. are moving up the pecking order, while Washington State is on its way back down. Doesn't matter who the new coach is going to be going forward (77%, 213 Votes)
  • Bad news. Rolovich and his run-and-shoot offense will make great use of WSU's arsenal of weapons, and Rolovich will keep Hawai'ian and Polynesian recruits from looking at CU as a destination (12%, 33 Votes)
  • Good news. With all due respect to Rolovich, this is not a splash hire. CU knows all too well what can happen if you hire a Mountain West Conference coach with only G-5 success (11%, 32 Votes)

CU moves up from No. 25 to No. 20 in the latest AP poll. Thoughts?
  • Buffs may have their best chance ever for a road sweep over the Arizona schools (U of A has lost 4-of-5; ASU 2-of-3). Get the job done, Buffs, and earn the national ranking! (54%, 131 Votes)
  • Means nothing. Regular season polls in basketball mean even less than they do in football. Nice to get the national recognition, but it's January ... not March. (26%, 62 Votes)
  • Love it! The goal this year is the Sweet Sixteen, and the Buffs are showing that they have the talent to make that dream a reality! (20%, 49 Votes)

  1. Stuart:

I like the question about SS’s negative coverage. Personally, I think the see-saw coverage is mostly about “stirring the pot” and/or getting clicks. SS is this year’s draft soap opera–a love/hate fest For one negative story there is a more positive one. Some stories are just hit jobs (anonymous NFL assistant/exec), others just cover every minutia of his life. Yesterday, Kiper has him still going early.

SS is an intriguing draftee warranting discussion, however the extensive overall coverage on every detail for one QB prospect seems over the top. NFL teams have their draft boards, needs, and evaluations and they make decisions based upon that. I’ll be glad when SS and TH are picked today and the focus will be on our team.

  2. The Buffs need to wear the silver and gold that are the official school colors. Black jerseys are OK as the’ve been around for a long time, but out with the black helmets–and the white ones too. Gold helmets with silver pants, alternating with silver helmets and gold pants would be good. Nix on all black and all white!!

  3. Stuart, your polls are so thoughtful and on point. Appreciate you doing this and sharing it with your CUAtTheGame community.

  4. Wouldn’t mind the Cheez-It Bowl at all, as I have connections at Kellogg’s (owns Cheez-it) who could get me tickets!! Is that Cheezy??? 🙂
