Reports are that CBS (1:30 p.m., MT games) and NBC (5:30 p.m., MT) will join Fox ("Big Noon" - 10 a.m., MT) in the Big Ten media contract, ending ESPN's relationship. Thoughts?
  • Just more noise. The real issue is whether the Pac-12 can stay together (and I'm not betting on that). Wake me when the dust settles, and we'll talk again then (48%, 105 Votes)
  • Really some good news for the Pac-12 for a change. ESPN has the SEC, but won't want to walk away from the western half of the nation, giving the Pac-12 some leverage (and some extra dollars) (35%, 76 Votes)
  • Not necessarily good news for the Pac-12. ESPN may be out of the Big Ten, but who will bid against ESPN for the Pac-12? If ESPN has no competition, the Pac-12 may still be low-balled (17%, 38 Votes)

Preseason Coaches Poll is out, with three Pac-12 teams listed in the Top 25 (and seven of CU's opponents this fall receiving votes). Thoughts?
  • Just another sign of how the deep the chasm in college football has gotten. Oregon is considered to be the No. 12 team in the country ... and is an 18-point underdog to No. 3 Georgia. Yikes! (42%, 68 Votes)
  • Pretty consistent with all of the other preseason polls. Plenty of love for Utah (No. 8), but perhaps too much love for a 4-8 team (USC, No. 15). And a No. 1 vote for 5-7 Texas? Whatever ... (36%, 59 Votes)
  • Well, if CU loses to teams considered Top 25 vote worthy, and defeats the other five on the schedule which didn't merit a vote, the Buffs would finish 5-7 ... sounds about right (22%, 36 Votes)

Which of the following Pac-12 opening weekend lines do you find to be the most interesting?
  • CU a 10.0-point underdog against TCU. The Horned Frogs were 5-7 last year, and have a new coach. CU might not win the game, but I can't see betting the Buffs as over a touchdown underdog at home (50%, 102 Votes)
  • Oregon an 18.5-point underdog against Georgia (in Atlanta). A chance for a Pac-12 power to make a national statement ... the pundits certainly don't see it happening (31%, 64 Votes)
  • Oregon State a 4.0-point favorite at home against Boise State. The Broncos were 7-5 last season, while the Beavers were 7-6. Is Oregon State's trajectory still going up? We'll find out ... (19%, 38 Votes)

Which of the following media day comments from CU head coach Karl Dorrell do you like the best?
  • Overall: "I'm very encouraged that we're going to continue to get stronger and better each week because of the attitude and commitment these players have exuded about themselves" (50%, 76 Votes)
  • On the defensive line: "I have two defensive fronts that I took a lot of confidence in. They have a lot of talent and they're passionate players that know that they can make plays" (30%, 46 Votes)
  • On the offensive line: "They're working hard and doing what's necessary for us to improve … After this first week, I feel strongly that we have more pieces there than we've had in the past" (20%, 29 Votes)

Which quote of the day gives you the most optimism about the Buffs in 2022?
  • Defensive coordinator Chris Wilson: "We don't have a depth chart, we have a rep chart. We didn't give these guys a scholarship to be a backup" (60%, 96 Votes)
  • Chris Wilson on Barnes: "He’s done a great job. (Shannon) Turley has done a great job with him in the weight room. He’s put on some good solid mass. He's stronger" (22%, 35 Votes)
  • Linebacker Robert Barnes: “I think that at the end of the day, we just needed a playmaker. Nate made a lot of plays, and … now I gotta go make those plays" (18%, 29 Votes)

  1. Stuart:

I like the question about SS’s negative coverage. Personally, I think the see-saw coverage is mostly about “stirring the pot” and/or getting clicks. SS is this year’s draft soap opera–a love/hate fest For one negative story there is a more positive one. Some stories are just hit jobs (anonymous NFL assistant/exec), others just cover every minutia of his life. Yesterday, Kiper has him still going early.

SS is an intriguing draftee warranting discussion, however the extensive overall coverage on every detail for one QB prospect seems over the top. NFL teams have their draft boards, needs, and evaluations and they make decisions based upon that. I’ll be glad when SS and TH are picked today and the focus will be on our team.

  2. The Buffs need to wear the silver and gold that are the official school colors. Black jerseys are OK as the’ve been around for a long time, but out with the black helmets–and the white ones too. Gold helmets with silver pants, alternating with silver helmets and gold pants would be good. Nix on all black and all white!!

  3. Stuart, your polls are so thoughtful and on point. Appreciate you doing this and sharing it with your CUAtTheGame community.

  4. Wouldn’t mind the Cheez-It Bowl at all, as I have connections at Kellogg’s (owns Cheez-it) who could get me tickets!! Is that Cheezy??? 🙂
