Last season, CU ranked 106th in total defense. This fall I expect ...
  • CU to be in the Top 75. Young talent now has experience. Buffs getting better. (72%, 166 Votes)
  • The Buffs to be around 100th in the nation again. The Pac-12 has great offenses; CU has too many question marks on defense (17%, 40 Votes)
  • The Buffs to move into the Top 50. CU much improved on defense (11%, 23 Votes)

My post-Spring practices prediction for CU's 2014 record
  • 6 wins ... CU finds a way to make it to a bowl game in year two of the Mac era (45%, 118 Votes)
  • 5 wins ... CU improved across the board, but schedule too tough to post a winning record (36%, 94 Votes)
  • 4 or fewer wins ... Looking forward to 2015, but this is another rebuilding year (12%, 31 Votes)
  • 7 or more wins ... Mike MacIntyre wins Pac-12 Coach of the Year award! (7%, 21 Votes)

My biggest concern coming out of Spring practices ...
  • Offensive line still has many unanswered questions (57%, 116 Votes)
  • The defensive line is a patchwork, with two starters having academic issues (37%, 75 Votes)
  • No lead running backs or wide receivers identified (4%, 9 Votes)
  • No progress on special teams - return units not even addressed (2%, 4 Votes)

Start Date: April 14, 2014 @ 12:37 pm
End Date: No Expiry

Who was your breakout player of the spring?
  • Wide receiver Bryce Bobo (48%, 111 Votes)
  • Defensive back Ahkello Witherspoon (35%, 82 Votes)
  • Quarterback Jordan Gehrke (10%, 23 Votes)
  • Linebacker Kenneth Olugbode (4%, 9 Votes)
  • Running back Phillip Lindsay (3%, 7 Votes)

Start Date: April 13, 2014 @ 4:04 pm
End Date: No Expiry

Black defeats Gold, 21-17, in the Spring Game ...
  • No injuries of note ... which is about all you can hope for out of a Spring Game (47%, 90 Votes)
  • A good game overall. The offense and defense both made plays (37%, 71 Votes)
  • A disappointment overall. Liufau made poor decisions (sack/interception/failed final drive); there was no running game; too many penalties (16%, 32 Votes)

Start Date: April 12, 2014 @ 1:50 pm
End Date: No Expiry

  1. Stuart:

I like the question about SS’s negative coverage. Personally, I think the see-saw coverage is mostly about “stirring the pot” and/or getting clicks. SS is this year’s draft soap opera–a love/hate fest For one negative story there is a more positive one. Some stories are just hit jobs (anonymous NFL assistant/exec), others just cover every minutia of his life. Yesterday, Kiper has him still going early.

SS is an intriguing draftee warranting discussion, however the extensive overall coverage on every detail for one QB prospect seems over the top. NFL teams have their draft boards, needs, and evaluations and they make decisions based upon that. I’ll be glad when SS and TH are picked today and the focus will be on our team.

  2. The Buffs need to wear the silver and gold that are the official school colors. Black jerseys are OK as the’ve been around for a long time, but out with the black helmets–and the white ones too. Gold helmets with silver pants, alternating with silver helmets and gold pants would be good. Nix on all black and all white!!

  3. Stuart, your polls are so thoughtful and on point. Appreciate you doing this and sharing it with your CUAtTheGame community.

  4. Wouldn’t mind the Cheez-It Bowl at all, as I have connections at Kellogg’s (owns Cheez-it) who could get me tickets!! Is that Cheezy??? 🙂
