  • He's taking a leadership role. I lean on KD for some of that leadership stuff within our group" (23%, 49 Votes)

Coach Tucker on Wednesday practice: "I thought it was good work. We had a good tempo, it was a physical practice". Thoughts?
  • All I can say is that i am pleased that the Buffs are one-third of the way through spring, and no word of any significant injuries. Fingers crossed that the Buffs come through spring in tact (39%, 83 Votes)
  • I like to see the enthusiasm Coach Tucker shows when he talks about the practices. It's clear that he likes what he has to work with, which is very encouraging (34%, 71 Votes)
  • It's all coachspeak, and needs to be taken with a grain of salt. What do you expect him to say: "We looked terrible and had no energy"? (27%, 57 Votes)

CU receives a commitment from a 6'6" junior college guard, Maddox Daniels. Thoughts?
  • I'll give Daniels the benefit of the doubt. I like his quote: "The coaches have told me what they need. I just want to win" (49%, 107 Votes)
  • Love it! A perfect fit for the Buffs - a tall guard with a .431 three-point average. Daniels could be the missing piece (along with the return of Dallas Walton) to get CU into the Sweet Sixteen! (39%, 85 Votes)
  • Not a huge fan. We've been hearing for months about a game-changing transfer who will ensure CU an NCAA run in 2019-20 ... and I'm not sure this is it (12%, 25 Votes)

The most encouraging quote from the first day of practice after spring break:
  • Junior safety Derrion Rakestraw. "It's faster and there's more accountability. The coaches are on us all the time, they're running to the ball with us β€” it's more intense" (62%, 133 Votes)
  • DC Tyson Summers: "They've worked extremely hard ... They're going to get more and more comfortable and have the ability to play faster each and every day and each and every rep" (19%, 41 Votes)
  • HC Mel Tucker: "I thought the players did a good job today. They know what the standard is, what the expectation is for how we want to practice" (19%, 40 Votes)

New offensive coordinator Jay Johnson promises a "very, very multiple offense". Thoughts?
  • If this means nothing more than "I'm going to surprise CSU with formations and plays they've never seen before", then I'm okay with it. We'll see what Johnson & Co. can produce (47%, 104 Votes)
  • Love it! Drawing up the experiences of everyone on the staff, and utilizing the skill sets of the players on the roster sounds like a good plan (34%, 76 Votes)
  • Not a fan. Other schools (see: Washington State; Stanford) have developed their programs by establishing offensive identities. Being good at a number of offenses might mean being great at none (19%, 42 Votes)

  1. Stuart:

I like the question about SS’s negative coverage. Personally, I think the see-saw coverage is mostly about “stirring the pot” and/or getting clicks. SS is this year’s draft soap opera–a love/hate fest For one negative story there is a more positive one. Some stories are just hit jobs (anonymous NFL assistant/exec), others just cover every minutia of his life. Yesterday, Kiper has him still going early.

SS is an intriguing draftee warranting discussion, however the extensive overall coverage on every detail for one QB prospect seems over the top. NFL teams have their draft boards, needs, and evaluations and they make decisions based upon that. I’ll be glad when SS and TH are picked today and the focus will be on our team.

  2. The Buffs need to wear the silver and gold that are the official school colors. Black jerseys are OK as the’ve been around for a long time, but out with the black helmets–and the white ones too. Gold helmets with silver pants, alternating with silver helmets and gold pants would be good. Nix on all black and all white!!

  3. Stuart, your polls are so thoughtful and on point. Appreciate you doing this and sharing it with your CUAtTheGame community.

  4. Wouldn’t mind the Cheez-It Bowl at all, as I have connections at Kellogg’s (owns Cheez-it) who could get me tickets!! Is that Cheezy??? πŸ™‚
