It's time! Your prediction for the 2019 Rocky Mountain Showdown ...
  • It's the first game for the new coaching staff, which means mistakes will be made. I'm confident in a Buff win, but CU won't make it comfortable until the second half (51%, 196 Votes)
  • It was a rout last year, and CSU, if anything, is worse than it was last year. Mel Tucker & Co. will have an impressive debut with a big win over the Rams (37%, 144 Votes)
  • There is nothing more dangerous than a cornered animal. Mike Bobo & Co. are fighting for their jobs, and have had a month to prepare. There are no guarantees here - fingers crossed for a Buff win (12%, 46 Votes)

Thursday night Pac-12 games: UCLA at Cincinnati; Kent State at ASU; Utah at BYU. Predictions?
  • The conference will go 2-1. UCLA lost to Cincinnati at home last year, and Utah was down 20-0 at the half last year to BYU. One of these two teams will fall (68%, 197 Votes)
  • The Pac-12 will go 3-0. The Arizona State game will be a rout, while UCLA and Utah will post road wins against credible opponents (24%, 69 Votes)
  • The Pac-12 South will go 1-2 on Thursday. Only ASU will emerge with a win ... and the nation will see just how wide open the South is when the Bruins and Utes fall on the road in Week One (8%, 23 Votes)

Which note from the "T.I.P.S." did you find the most interesting/surprising?
  • That CU's roster has a total of 179 career starts ... the LOWEST total in CU history. Here's hoping that Tucker & Co. have done a great job coaching up their new charges (81%, 247 Votes)
  • That CSU's "If we build it, they'll invite us to the Big 12" stadium hosted a crowd of less than 30,000 per game last season (Here's guessing the Big 12 invite is still a ways off) (11%, 33 Votes)
  • That the buyout for Mike Bobo's contract was $8 million last year (and $5.5 million this year). Now we know why Bobo kept his job last December (and may still be around in 2020) (8%, 24 Votes)

Pat Rooney from the Daily Camera: "It’s difficult to foresee the Buffs finishing better than 4-8 in Tucker’s inaugural season". Thoughts?
  • It's been nine months of speculation, but it's about to come to an end. Ask me again after CU has taken the field against CSU and Nebraska (67%, 263 Votes)
  • Somewhere between absurd and ridiculous. This team went 5-7 with poor coaching. With better coaching and a wide open Pac-12 South (see: Hawai'i 45, Arizona 38), Tucker & Co. will get CU to a bowl (24%, 92 Votes)
  • Hate to admit it, but Rooney is probably right. The schedule is tougher, and there are too many holes in the defense to keep the Buffs from breaking through in 2019 (9%, 36 Votes)

Start Date: August 26, 2019 @ 5:51 pm

What Sunday quote from Mel Tucker do you like the best?
  • "It's critically important to go into games knowing who you are. That way you can game plan and make sure you are doing what your players can do" (44%, 117 Votes)
  • "The hard work is paying off. I feel the team coming together ... Leaders have started to emerge ... We've gotten better" (41%, 109 Votes)
  • “We put more pressure on ourselves to prepare and get it right than I think what anyone can put on us from the outside" (15%, 37 Votes)

  1. Stuart:

I like the question about SS’s negative coverage. Personally, I think the see-saw coverage is mostly about “stirring the pot” and/or getting clicks. SS is this year’s draft soap opera–a love/hate fest For one negative story there is a more positive one. Some stories are just hit jobs (anonymous NFL assistant/exec), others just cover every minutia of his life. Yesterday, Kiper has him still going early.

SS is an intriguing draftee warranting discussion, however the extensive overall coverage on every detail for one QB prospect seems over the top. NFL teams have their draft boards, needs, and evaluations and they make decisions based upon that. I’ll be glad when SS and TH are picked today and the focus will be on our team.

  2. The Buffs need to wear the silver and gold that are the official school colors. Black jerseys are OK as the’ve been around for a long time, but out with the black helmets–and the white ones too. Gold helmets with silver pants, alternating with silver helmets and gold pants would be good. Nix on all black and all white!!

  3. Stuart, your polls are so thoughtful and on point. Appreciate you doing this and sharing it with your CUAtTheGame community.

  4. Wouldn’t mind the Cheez-It Bowl at all, as I have connections at Kellogg’s (owns Cheez-it) who could get me tickets!! Is that Cheezy??? 🙂
