CU announces non-conference kickoff schedule (UNC: 7:00 p.m. (Fri.), Pac-12 Networks; Texas A&M: 1:30 p.m., FOX; Minnesota: 11:00 a.m., Pac-12 Networks). Thoughts?
  • Livable ... At least the UNC game isn't later than 7:00 p.m.; the A&M is an afternoon game; and at least Minnesota isn't at 10:00 a.m. - I can make this work (38%, 66 Votes)
  • Love it ... The UNC Friday night kickoff was a given; CU gets A&M on national television during the day; and will get a chance to make a statement early in the day v. Minnesota (31%, 54 Votes)
  • Sad ... Two games on the Pac-12 Networks (read: no audience), including a breakfast game v. Minnesota. The only national game? A likely blowout loss. Color me unimpressed ... (31%, 53 Votes)

CU offensive coordinator Darrin Chiaverini: "The goal, to me is 30 (points per game) or more". Thoughts?
  • All I know is ... if Chiaverini's offense doesn't improve significantly in 2021 (CU averaged 28.5 points per game in 2020), Chiaverini may be looking for another job in 2022 (45%, 86 Votes)
  • Like it. As the article says, 85% of Pac-12 teams averaging 30 points per game had winning records or at least a bowl bid. I'd be pretty satisfied if CU went to eight bowl games this decade (34%, 66 Votes)
  • Not much of a goal, actually. Last season, scoring 30 points per game was only good enough for 53rd in the nation. I'd like to think our offensive coordinator has his sight set higher than that (21%, 41 Votes)

DraftKings has set the over/under for CU's win total at: 4.5. Thoughts?
  • Probably low, but we'll see how the next few months unfold. Ask me again when CU has its quarterback, and a good prognosis on Nate Landman (and maybe another safety?!) (50%, 114 Votes)
  • Probably about right. A&M, Oregon, USC, and Washington are likely losses, which means the Buffs will need five wins out of the remaining eight games. Possible, but I'm not betting on it (32%, 73 Votes)
  • Way too low. Let me guess, this was the same Vegas that set CU's win total for the 2020 season (for a planned for seven-game season) at 1.5 wins. Take the bet - easy money! (18%, 43 Votes)

Which of the 2021 CU Hall of Fame football inductees for you brings about the fondest memories?
  • Running back Chris Brown (2001-02) - Six touchdowns against Nebraska - 'nuff said. Finished fourth on the CU all-time rushing list, even though he only played two seasons in Boulder (75%, 180 Votes)
  • Offensive lineman Chris Naeole (1993-96) - Consensus first-team All-American. Only player in CU history to be voted top soph-to-be; top junior-to-be; and top senior-to-be. First round NFL draft pick (18%, 42 Votes)
  • Defensive back Mickey Pruitt (1984-87) - Three time first-team conference - and his tackle of Oregon QB Chris Miller in '85 was called by Coach Mac as the "turning point in the program" (7%, 17 Votes)

Which factoid from the Essay about Karl Dorrell to you is the most surprising?
  • That Dorrell became the first coach in CU history to open the season with an unranked team, and lead the Buffs into the national rankings (No. 21 in the AP poll on December 6th) (68%, 127 Votes)
  • That of the 23 new head coaches in 2020, Karl Dorrell was the last to lose a game (December 12th), and finished with the fourth-best winning percentage (17%, 31 Votes)
  • That Dorrell was just the third coach in CU history to lead the Buffs to a bowl game in his first season, joining Rick Neuheisel (1995) and Gary Barnett (1999) (15%, 29 Votes)

  1. Stuart:

I like the question about SS’s negative coverage. Personally, I think the see-saw coverage is mostly about “stirring the pot” and/or getting clicks. SS is this year’s draft soap opera–a love/hate fest For one negative story there is a more positive one. Some stories are just hit jobs (anonymous NFL assistant/exec), others just cover every minutia of his life. Yesterday, Kiper has him still going early.

SS is an intriguing draftee warranting discussion, however the extensive overall coverage on every detail for one QB prospect seems over the top. NFL teams have their draft boards, needs, and evaluations and they make decisions based upon that. I’ll be glad when SS and TH are picked today and the focus will be on our team.

  2. The Buffs need to wear the silver and gold that are the official school colors. Black jerseys are OK as the’ve been around for a long time, but out with the black helmets–and the white ones too. Gold helmets with silver pants, alternating with silver helmets and gold pants would be good. Nix on all black and all white!!

  3. Stuart, your polls are so thoughtful and on point. Appreciate you doing this and sharing it with your CUAtTheGame community.

  4. Wouldn’t mind the Cheez-It Bowl at all, as I have connections at Kellogg’s (owns Cheez-it) who could get me tickets!! Is that Cheezy??? 🙂
