Prediction Time: What will happen with the Four Corner schools and the Pac-12?
  • The Four Corner schools - the three remaining, anyway - will join CU in the Big 12, forming a 16-team conference, setting the stage for the Big Ten to take four schools of its own (63%, 182 Votes)
  • Only Arizona will leave, which will put a stop to Oregon and Washington leaving for the Big Ten for now, as the Big Ten doesn't want to be seen as the home-wrecker which brought down the Pac-12 (25%, 72 Votes)
  • None of the other Four Corner schools will leave, and the Pac-9 will turn its attention toward expansion, taking 1-3 Mountain West schools to get back to full strength (12%, 37 Votes)

Report: Pac-12 media contracts based on Apple streaming, with an "escalator" clause to increase revenue as subscriptions increase. Thoughts?
  • I'm just glad that CU - whether they knew about this proposal or not - got while the getting was good. "Stability" is an important word for the next 5-7 years, and CU will have it (71%, 228 Votes)
  • What a joke! The Pac-12 was sold on subscription based revenue 12 years ago, and got burned badly. I can't believe any team in the conference is excited about this proposal ... and some will leave (28%, 89 Votes)
  • We know that streaming is the future of sports broadcasting (an NFL playoff game will be on Peacock this season). If the Pac-9 play their cards right, this could turn into a shrewd move (1%, 5 Votes)

Oregon coach Dan Lanning: I'm trying to remember what they won to affect this conference ... I don't remember them winning anything". Thoughts?'.
  • If this isn't already up on the modern version of CU's "bulletin board", then someone isn't doing his job. Perhaps Lanning forgot he still has a game v. CU to play on September 23rd (36%, 104 Votes)
  • Sour grapes. CU got while the getting was good, and the "Pac-9" is fading in relevance. Enjoy leading the lemmings off the cliff, Coach! (36%, 103 Votes)
  • Sad, but true. Other than 2016, when the Buffs were up and the Ducks were down, CU has been a non-factor during its entire run in the Pac-12. Expect more of this during the season (28%, 78 Votes)

Jon Wilner on the possibility of San Diego State replacing CU: "The swap would constitute an upgrade on several fronts". Thoughts?
  • I don't think it matters. If Kliavkoff couldn't make it happen for San Diego State when the Aztecs were dangling in the wind, how will he make it work with the buyout doubled to $34 million? (74%, 219 Votes)
  • No chance. You don't make these moves based upon present conditions or a few seasons. CU is an historic football national player; San Diego State is a newcomer with no national following (17%, 50 Votes)
  • If we're being honest, yes. San Diego State has the southern California market, a new stadium, and a Final Four basketball program. Right now, yes, a Pac-10 with San Diego State would be an upgrade (9%, 28 Votes)

Start Date: July 30, 2023 @ 4:18 pm

How would you rate the odds of Arizona joining CU as a new member of the Big 12 Conference?
  • Medium. Arizona has repeatedly said that it wants to see the media contract numbers before making a decision. The choice makes sense, but it's far from a done deal (45%, 91 Votes)
  • High. Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark has said that he wants 14 teams in his conference, and the Wildcats are the logical choice to follow the Buffs. It's gonna happen (33%, 68 Votes)
  • Low. Arizona and Arizona State share a Board of Regents, and there will be tremendous pressure on the Wildcats not to abandon the Pac-9. I don't see it happening this realignment cycle (22%, 45 Votes)

  1. Stuart:

I like the question about SS’s negative coverage. Personally, I think the see-saw coverage is mostly about “stirring the pot” and/or getting clicks. SS is this year’s draft soap opera–a love/hate fest For one negative story there is a more positive one. Some stories are just hit jobs (anonymous NFL assistant/exec), others just cover every minutia of his life. Yesterday, Kiper has him still going early.

SS is an intriguing draftee warranting discussion, however the extensive overall coverage on every detail for one QB prospect seems over the top. NFL teams have their draft boards, needs, and evaluations and they make decisions based upon that. I’ll be glad when SS and TH are picked today and the focus will be on our team.

  2. The Buffs need to wear the silver and gold that are the official school colors. Black jerseys are OK as the’ve been around for a long time, but out with the black helmets–and the white ones too. Gold helmets with silver pants, alternating with silver helmets and gold pants would be good. Nix on all black and all white!!

  3. Stuart, your polls are so thoughtful and on point. Appreciate you doing this and sharing it with your CUAtTheGame community.

  4. Wouldn’t mind the Cheez-It Bowl at all, as I have connections at Kellogg’s (owns Cheez-it) who could get me tickets!! Is that Cheezy??? 🙂
