Los Angeles Times: USC should abandon the Pac-12 and go independent. Thoughts?
  • All by itself, the theory has no merit, but, when the next round of expansion comes along, anything is possible, including USC going independent (53%, 97 Votes)
  • Absurd. One columnist spouts off a theory, and we're supposed to take it seriously? Nevvver gonna happen, so there's no point in even debating the issue (37%, 68 Votes)
  • Hate to say it, but the columnist may have a point. USC's brand is greater than that of the Pac-12, and the Trojans could play a national schedule a la Notre Dame ... and be a national power (10%, 19 Votes)

CU's average finish in all sports ranks 8th in the Pac-12. Thoughts?
  • Regardless of the number of sports counted, CU should be finishing higher. Here's hoping CU's Olympic sports will be more competitive in the future (35%, 43 Votes)
  • Sad to see that CU has the fewest number of NCAA sports of any of the Pac-12 schools. I knew the California schools had all of the niche sports, but its sad CU is behind Utah and Washington State (34%, 41 Votes)
  • Well, the tally didn't take into account skiing, where the Buffs finished 2nd in the nation, so the numbers are skewed. Take the report with a grain of salt and move on (31%, 38 Votes)

SI: Colorado one of the few schools with programs designed "to innovate and empower their athletes". Thoughts?
  • I like it. You have to trust that Rick George, who has been on the NIL working group for over a year, has had his eye on July 1st for some time, and will do what is necessary to keep CU competitive (51%, 76 Votes)
  • It's too early to tell, but I'm betting that CU and its fans will not be "helping" CU's players as much as other teams fans will be helping theirs (39%, 57 Votes)
  • Sounds good in theory, but preparing student athletes for future business dealings won't help with recruiting when other schools are finding ways to get their players paid now (10%, 15 Votes)

Would you be interested in traveling to Las Vegas in future years for a game between CU and an SEC or Big Ten team?
  • Definitely! A long weekend in Vegas, with a nationally televised game in an NFL stadium against an SEC or Big Ten team. Sign me up! (53%, 121 Votes)
  • Depends ... If there was a year or two notice of the game (and the opponent), I would consider a vacation in Vegas to watch my Buffs over Labor Day weekend (26%, 60 Votes)
  • No. The average temperature in Las Vegas in early September would have to be around 100-degrees. I'll watch the game on TV, and wait for CU to get a Las Vegas Bowl bid, and hit Sin City in December (21%, 46 Votes)

Name, Image & Likeness income is now available to college students. Are you concerned about the impacts?
  • Greatly so. The gap between the haves and have-nots will continue to grow (and in this context, CU's a have-not). The NCAA dropped the ball by not having national legislation in place by July 1st (48%, 111 Votes)
  • It is what it is. I just hope/pray that CU, with its "Buffs with a Brand" program, will have enough going for it that it doesn't hurt CU in recruiting (though I'm not holding my breath) (42%, 97 Votes)
  • What, me worry? I'm too busy celebrating the end of the Larry Scott era as Pac-12 commissioner to care about anything else. Happy to have the George Kliavkoff era underway! (10%, 23 Votes)

  1. Stuart:

I like the question about SS’s negative coverage. Personally, I think the see-saw coverage is mostly about “stirring the pot” and/or getting clicks. SS is this year’s draft soap opera–a love/hate fest For one negative story there is a more positive one. Some stories are just hit jobs (anonymous NFL assistant/exec), others just cover every minutia of his life. Yesterday, Kiper has him still going early.

SS is an intriguing draftee warranting discussion, however the extensive overall coverage on every detail for one QB prospect seems over the top. NFL teams have their draft boards, needs, and evaluations and they make decisions based upon that. I’ll be glad when SS and TH are picked today and the focus will be on our team.

  2. The Buffs need to wear the silver and gold that are the official school colors. Black jerseys are OK as the’ve been around for a long time, but out with the black helmets–and the white ones too. Gold helmets with silver pants, alternating with silver helmets and gold pants would be good. Nix on all black and all white!!

  3. Stuart, your polls are so thoughtful and on point. Appreciate you doing this and sharing it with your CUAtTheGame community.

  4. Wouldn’t mind the Cheez-It Bowl at all, as I have connections at Kellogg’s (owns Cheez-it) who could get me tickets!! Is that Cheezy??? 🙂
