Colorado moves up three spots to No. 12 in the latest College Football Playoff Rankings

Here is the full list, which includes Washington at No. 4 …

From CUBuffs.com … One week after debuting at No. 15 in the initial College Football Playoff rankings, the Colorado Buffaloes moved up three spots to No. 12 in the latest rankings released Tuesday by the CFP.

The 7-2 Buffs, coming off a 20-10 win over UCLA, moved ahead of LSU, Florida and Nebraska. LSU lost to Alabama and dropped from No. 13 to 24, Nebraska was pummeled by Ohio State and dropped from No. 10 to 19, and Florida fell out of the rankings after losing to Arkansas.

The Buffs, who currently lead the Pac-12 South with a 5-1 record, play Saturday at Arizona in an 8 p.m. nationally televised game (FS1).

Colorado is one of five Pac-12 teams in the latest rankings, including unbeaten Washington, which moved up to No. 4. Other Pac-12 teams in the rankings are Utah at No. 15, USC at No. 20 and Washington State at No. 23.

CU head coach Mike MacIntyre, who didn’t watch the rankings announcement last week, said at his Tuesday press conference he probably wouldn’t watch the latest announcement, either.

“(Sports Information Director) Dave Plati will call me tonight and tell me what we’re ranked,” MacIntyre said. “I’ll be here watching Arizona (film) and watching our practice film and talking to some of our kids and coaches and recruiting and worrying about academics. … I won’t worry about all that until the end.”

But, MacIntyre did allow that the positive publicity of being ranked no doubt helps the program. Colorado has also re-entered the national polls for the first time this year since 2005, with the Buffs currently ranked No. 16 in the Associated Press poll and No. 15 in the USA Today/Coaches balloting.

“The more we’re on television and the more we’re ranked, I do notice it helps recruiting,” MacIntyre said. “That’s a good thing when you call a kid tonight and you’ve gotten ranked. We understand we take care of everything on the field.”

Mike MacIntyre – No. 5 in national coach of the year rankings

From CampusInsiders.com … With the end of the regular season sneaking up on everyone, select coaches have risen above their peers in the profession. As such, they’re gaining support in the race for Coach of the Year, a contract extension and possibly a high-profile promotion now that job openings are popping up.

Through 10 weeks of action, the following coaches have so far done the best jobs of exceeding preseason expectations and managing the myriad challenges associated with being the face of a major program …

5. Mike MacIntyre, Colorado (6)

MacIntyre keeps inching closer to the top of the rankings, moving up another notch after his Buffaloes defeated UCLA last week to remain a half-game ahead of USC in the Pac-12 South. Colorado is off to its best start in 11 years, and no one on the planet saw it coming. After a decade of futility and a last place prediction in the preseason, the Buffs have taken the league by storm. They’ve got Arizona this week and then back-to-back games with Washington State and Utah that could catapult MacIntyre into the top spot.

1. Chris Petersen, Washington (1)

The Huskies are struggling to earn the respect they feel they deserve in the College Football Playoff rankings. But respect has not been a problem for their coach, who’s widely considered to be in the upper echelon of his profession. Sure, there were expectations at the beginning of the year in Seattle. However, U-Dub has sprinted past them by knocking down the first nine challengers, usually in lopsided fashion. To remain ahead of Saban, though, Petersen must handle a rising USC team that was mauled by Alabama on the opening weekend.

CU jumps seven spots in ESPN Power Rankings, up to No. 13 nationally

From ESPN … Four of the top 15 teams in the College Football Playoff selection committee’s initial rankings fell in Week 10. Those losses left holes in the top 10 for the likes of Penn State and Oklahoma.

… No. 4 Washington … No. 12 Utah

13. Colorado Buffaloes (7-2)

Trending:

Week 9 ranking: 20
Week 10 result: Defeated UCLA 20-10

Who would have thought that Colorado would have a say in the Pac-12 race this late in the season? Well, after the Buffs’ win over UCLA, Colorado has a one-game lead in the Pac-12 South race over USC and Utah. Even better news for the Buffs is that two (Washington State, Utah) of their final three games are at home.

… No. 21 Washington State … No. 23 USC …

Buffs move up five spots in both Associated Press and USA Today coaches polls

The 20-10 win over UCLA may have been “ugly”, but it was enough to propel Colorado up five spots in both the Associated Press poll (to No. 16) and the USA Today coaches poll (to No. 15).

The College Football Playoff rankings (CU was No. 15 last week) will be released on Tuesday.

From CUBuffs.com … To no one’s surprise, the Colorado Buffaloes took another step up in the national polls on Sunday.

The Buffs moved up to No. 16 in the Associated Press poll (up from No. 21 last week) and to No. 15 in the USA Today/Coaches poll (up from No. 20 last week). It’s the first time since early in the 2003 season that the Buffs have been among the nation’s top 20, just the latest step forward for a team that has already established a long list of such moments in this turnaround season.

But the rankings that matter now are those that come out Tuesday, when the College Football Playoff committee releases its weekly rankings. Those are the rankings that will go a long way in determining where the 7-2 Buffs (5-1 Pac-12) will ultimately end up for their bowl game.

The Buffs, who lead the Pac-12 South, are still among the favorites to earn a berth in the Dec. 2 Pac-12 championship game, and have at least a mathematical chance of still being one of four teams selected to play in the national semifinals.

ESPN Pac-12 Power Rankings … CU holding at No. 3 (behind only Washington schools)

From ESPN … Welcome to the Pac-12 Week 10 Power Rankings. You can see last week’s rankings here. If you don’t like where you’re ranked, play better.

… 3. Colorado 7-2, 5-1 (No. 3 last week)

Defensive coordinator Jim Leavitt told me over the weekend he’d prefer to win every game by 50. Sure. Who wouldn’t? But it’s noteworthy that the Buffs have won their last two games (10-5 against Stanford, 20-10 against UCLA) in rather ugly fashion. Those were the games Colorado used to cough up. Now they are finishing.

4. Utah 7-2, 4-2 (No. 4 last week)

The Utes have had a week to marinate in their loss to Washington. How they respond Thursday night when they travel to Arizona State will be telling about this team in the stretch run.

… 12. Arizona 2-7, 0-6 (No. 12 last week)

For anyone who said Arizona’s season can’t get any worse … welcome to any worse.
