This weekend, the University of Colorado football team played its fourth ranked team in five weeks in the first Friday night home game in school history. The Buffs were 21-point underdogs, and lived up to (or down to) expectations, falling 42-17 to No. 21 USC.

Trojan quarterback Matt Barkley threw for a school-record six touchdowns, and even took the time to lead the band in the school fight song after the game. The lead for the national publications after the game were predictable. The Buffs were an after-thought, with the stories recounting that the Trojans had “bounced back” after a heart-breaking loss to Stanford, and had “taken care of business” against the hapless Buffs.

Pretty damning stuff if you were dressed in black (and gold) for the game.

CU at the Game has obtained a secret memorandum sent out by the Colorado coaching staff to the coaches of the Buffs’ Pac-12 opponents.

While it doesn’t speak particularly well for the status of the CU football program … it does help explain things.

October 31st If you can’t leave ’em, sue ’em! Colorado and Nebraska were required to give 24 months’ to the Big 12 if they wanted to leave the conference. Colorado gave two year’s notice, but Nebraska was willing to pay a penalty to leave a year early. In the end, both teams left after a year, sacrificing television revenue to get out of the conference a year early. After his team was dominated by the 9th-ranked Oregon Ducks, 45-2, head coach Jon Embree was asked what he told his younger players, forced into action due to injuries to over a score of players. “I told the team, that is what you want to be,” said Embree, pointing to the visiting locker room.” That team in that locker room over there, that is what you want to be.”
