Lloyd Murray – DL

Just the facts … Committed February 3rd … Murray is a 6’2″, 310-pound defensive tackle from Wichita Falls, Texas Rivals bio 247 Sports bio

What other say about Murray … Murray is rated as a three-star prospect by both Rivals and 247 Sports.  At 247 Sports, Murray is considered to be the No. 93 defensive tackle in the nation, the No. 180 overall player out of Texas, and the No. 1,419 prospect in the nation.

From Gabe Brooks at 247 Sports … Murray is a bull-rusher who relies on his girth and strength to overwhelm high school opponents. With that in mind, he will need to add nuance to his game to transition to the Pac-12 level. He has shown an occasional swim move, but has been limited from a pass-rush arsenal standpoint. Murray will need to improve his hand violence and arm extension to help him disengage from college blockers. He also must maintain his weight and conditioning as his build could lead to getting out of shape.

Murray had other offers from … seemingly half the nation. While some prospects over-report their offer sheet, if even half of Murray’s list is accurate, he was a sought after recruit. Committed to Ole Miss for about a month last spring, Murray had offers from the Arizona schools, USC and Oregon from the Pac-12, as well as national powers Alabama, Auburn, Notre Dame, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio State, Penn State, Georgia … and about two dozen other schools.

Judge for yourself … Here is a link to Murray’s Hudl.com senior year highlights.

Mark Perry – DB

Perry reaffirms commitment to Colorado … USC was making a push for Perry to hold off on signing his Letter of Intent until February, and Louisville and Kansas (who have former CU coaches on their staffs) made a late push, but Perry stayed with the Buffs. On Monday night, Perry posted: “I never thought that this day would come. So many early mornings, late nights, and in the end it all paid off. I want to personally thank all of the schools who recruited me, you all believed in me and I am forever grateful … With that being said, I will be signing my NLI on Wednesday, December 19th, and being a leader in the Class to help take Colorado football back to championship level where it should be”.

Just the facts … Committed July 4th … Perry is a 6’1″, 190-pound defensive back from Rancho Cucamonga, California  Rivals bio  247 Sports bio

What others say about Perry … Perry is rated as a three-star prospect by both Rivals and 247 Sports. Rivals rates Perry as the 99th-best player out of the state of California this recruiting cycle. At 247 Sports, Perry is considered to be the No. 59 safety in the nation, the 78th-best player out of the state of California, and the No. 712 player overall in the country.

Perry played as a running back and defensive back as a senior for the 7-5 Cougars. On offense, Perry had 104 carries for 905 yards (8.7 yards per carry) and 14 touchdowns, with 13 receptions for 120 yards and another score. On defense, Perry had 57 tackles (18 solo), with three tackles for loss.

247Sports recruiting analyst Greg Biggins gave the following review of Perry’s game: “He shows instincts in pass coverage, physicality in run support and is one of the most well rounded safety prospects out West and does everything well. He has impressed at multiple off-season events starting with the Army All-American Combine, the Nike Opening Regional Camp and the Adidas 7-on-7 tournament. Perry is a thick kid, about 6-foot-0 and a rock solid 195-pounds. He had the 6th-highest Nike Rating at the SoCal Opening Regional Camp, clocking a 4.59-forty, 4.28 shuttle and jumped 38-inches in the vertical.”

“Perry is a great looking defensive back – lean muscle, physical at the line of scrimmage and he has tremendous length to make plays all over the field. I’ve been surprised his recruitment did not take off even more because he has been impressive at numerous events this offseason. Colorado is getting a really good player who can play cornerback, play nickel, move to safety, whatever the Buffaloes need from him on defense.” – Rivals.com analyst Adam Gorney

Perry had other offers from … three other Pac-12 schools. Arizona State and Arizona had offered Perry at the time of his commitment, with USC offering after Perry posted a strong senior season. From EagleAction.com (Boston College Rivals website) … Ham was a productive linebacker for Belleville last year, amassing 54 tackles on the season. Ham’s junior film shows off his full game and reveals an impressive, diverse skill set. He has better lateral quickness and agility than a lot of pure inside linebacker prospects and that serves him well in coverage, where he’s more proven than a lot of comparable prospects. But Ham also has a strong, compact build that should allow him to make plays against the run in the box.

Ham had other offers from … over a dozen schools. Boston College and Iowa State were the two Power-Five conference offers, but there were offers from most of the Mid-American Conference schools. Ham would have had offers from more schools, but committed to Boston College back in March. Ham had offers to attend camps at Michigan and Michigan State last summer, but declined.

From Power Five conference schools, Williams had offers from Indiana, Iowa State, Maryland, Pittsburgh and South Carolina. Williams gave his verbal commitment to Colorado State on December 6th, but flipped to Colorado ten days later.

Stivers said the coaching staff had to keep Sauvao’s strength and intensity in check during workouts and practices.

“He arrived with great size and came to us overweight, but extremely physical,” Stivers said. “When he started practicing with us, we had defensive coaches asking for him to calm down because they were afraid he was going to hurt somebody.

Titus Toler – DB

Decommitted … December 12th

Just the facts … Committed July 16th … Toler is a 6’0″, 185-pound defensive back from Bellflower, California  Rivals bio  247 Sports bio

What others say about Toler … Toler is rated as a three-star prospect by both Rivals and 247 Sports. Toler is considered by Rivals to be the No. 45 safety prospect in the nation, and the No. 75 player out of California this season. At 247 Sports, Toler is considered to be the No. 63 safety in the country, the 85th-best player out of California, and the No. 840 player in the nation.

“Toler is not going to blow you away physically but he’s a defensive back who doesn’t make mistakes. He’s excellent in coverage, can run with almost any receiver and he’s always in the hip pocket throughout the route. I saw Toler a bunch last season, and I’ll see him more in his senior year. He needs to keep getting bigger and stronger but in terms of a defensive back who can cover all over the field, he’s an impressive one.” – Rivals.com Analyst Adam Gorney

Toler is among the most versatile defensive backs out West. He’s a natural safety but has plus cover skills and played a lot of corner his junior season. He’s a physical player with very good speed and was the DB MVP at the NorCal Opening Regional Camp. He was part of Bosco’s state leading 4x100m relay team and is a plus athlete who can hit and plays with a nice edge to his game. – 247Sports analyst Greg Biggins

Toler had other offers from … over half of the Pac-12, including Washington, Arizona State, UCLA, Cal, Oregon State and Washington State. Toler had other notable offers from Boston College, Illinois, Minnesota, Vanderbilt and Colorado State. Toler took his official visit to CU in June, and had planned to take an official visit to Tempe before deciding between Colorado, Washington, and Arizona State. Toler, though, decided to follow in his father’s footsteps (Robert Toler, WR, 1996-99) and come to Boulder.

Carl Jones – DB

Decommitted … December 11th

Just the facts … Committed July 25th … Jones is 6’1″, 195-pound defensive back from Bakersfield, California  Rivals bio  247 Sports bio

What others say about Jones … Jones is rated as a three-star safety by Rivals; a three-star athlete by 247 Sports. According to 247 Sports, Jones is the No. 166 athlete in the country, and the No. 237 prospect out of California this season.

“Jones is a versatile defensive back who has impressive athleticism to come up and make plays. What I like most about Jones’ game is his length and athleticism that allows him to pick off passes, knock passes down and then he can come up, identify the play and then go after the ball carrier to make the stop. I’d like to see how he plays the deep ball and his ability to turn and run with receivers, but I don’t think he’ll have any issues on the back end. Jones is a talented kid and should be a serious contributor down the road for the Buffaloes.” – Rivals.com National Analyst Adam Gorney

Jones had other offers from … only a handful of other schools, including Oregon State from the Pac-12. Both Mountain West schools from the state of Nevada offered Jones, while Jones reported receiving interest from Utah, Arizona, Arizona, Wyoming, USC and UCLA.

In his own words … “I have to be confident in my skills as a quarterback,” Evans told the Daily Camera. “Any Power Five school you walk into, there’s going to be a stacked quarterback room and there’s going to be four stars everywhere, but you have to go in and be confident that you can take over that starting job and win football games for the program. I welcome the competition and I can’t wait.”

February 14th

CU quarterback recruit Ty Evans solid with Buffs

From the Colorado Springs Gazette … Although the area’s top football prospect is off the market after his January verbal commitment to the University of Colorado, three-star quarterback recruit Ty Evans is still accruing interest from some of the best football programs in the nation.

Tuesday morning Evans, who led the Palmer Ridge football team to its first state championship in December, announced that he received an offer from the 2017 national champions, the Alabama Crimson Tide.

“Very humbled to receive an offer from The University of Alabama!! Thank you to Coach Saban, Coach Enos and the whole Coaching staff!” Evans said in a tweet released at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

But don’t fret, CU fans, Evans is still staying in the Centennial State. Gazette Preps confirmed Tuesday that Evans will graduate from Palmer Ridge in December 2018 to enroll early at Colorado.

“Any time a program like that offers you, it definitely is like a hey, whoa moment,” Evans said. “Those national championships, it’s crazy and it grabs your attention, but in my heart I know I made the right decision. I know I want to be part of something special and look back and be proud that I was a part of it. I know something special is going on in Boulder.”

… “I think it’s a win-win for both of is. It validates me as a quarterback, and it also validates CU as a program, in having an Alabama recruit on their roster. It’s a win-win and they have no problem with schools contacting me.”

Cam’Ron Johnson – OL

De-committed … November 28th

Johnson’s Tweet “First off, I wanna thank god, colorado football and also the coaches for giving me and opportunities to play at their college it was truly a blessing for them to even consider me with that being said i would like to say i am decommitting from the university of colorado and reopen my recruitment no love lost for colorado please respect my decision”.

Just the facts … Committed July 26th … Johnson is a 6’5″, 280-pound offensive lineman from Pearland, Texas  Rivals bio  247 Sports bio

What others say about Johnson … Johnson is considered to be a three-star prospect by both Rivals and 247 Sports. According to 247 Sports, Johnson is rated as the No. 123 offensive tackle in the nation, the No. 195 player out of Texas, and the No. 1,593 player in the country.

“The difference between a lot of really exciting linemen at this level is how quickly they’re able to find the nasty streak that can put them over the top as a player and I don’t know that he’s found his yet, but I think Shadow Creek is primed for a big season this year and I think building that confidence is going to make him a better player as well. Colorado has also been putting in work on high three-star 2020 teammate Xavion Alford, and there are a number of other players coming up within the Shadow Creek program that are good to have a line to thanks to Johnson. He’s going to need some seasoning, but I think there is a lot of upside when it comes to Johnson’s commitment to Colorado.” – Rivals.com state of Texas analyst Nick Krueger

Johnson had other offers from … a total of 17 schools, which is the good news. However, there were only two other Power-Five conference offers, coming from Arizona and Oregon State. Otherwise, most of the offers came from lower division schools in the Texas area.

K.J. Trujillo – DB

De-committed … November 20th

Trujillo’s tweet“Thank you to all the Colorado’s staff for giving me an opportunity to be a part of their program. Special thanks to Coach Ambrose and Coach Brown for everything they have done for me and for being mentors beyond football. Much respect. With that being said, I am de-committing from the University of Colorado and re-opening my commitment”.

Just the facts … Committed May 2nd … Trujillo is a 6’1″, 170-pound cornerback from Orange, California  Rivals bio 247 Sports bio

What others say about Trujillo … Trujillo is rated as a three-star prospect by both Rivals and 247 Sports. Rivals rates Trujillo as the No. 73 overall prospect out of the state of California. At 247 Sports, Trujillo is considered to be the 67th-best cornerback in the nation, the No. 82 player overall out of California, and the No. 759 player overall in the nation.

Trujillo had other offers from … over a dozen other schools, including Oregon and Oregon State from the Pac-12. Trujillo also had offers from Iowa State and a number of Mountain West schools, including Colorado State. “It came down to Oregon and Colorado,” Trujillo told the Daily Camera. “Both places have great coaches, great people, great football program; I just had to take it a step ahead of that and do what was best for me and my future beyond college and beyond football. I just feel like Colorado is the best place for me to do that.”

In his own words … “It’s crazy,” Trujillo told the Daily Camera. “As a DB, I can’t see why you wouldn’t like Colorado. They’ve been doing a great job. They put a lot of DBs into the league … I feel that the Pac-12 is a great conference that fits my play style and I feel Colorado itself, the type of defense they run, is great for my play style. I love the fact that (head coach Mike MacIntyre) was a DB coach, so he’s a DB at heart. He’s a defensive-minded guy.”

Trujillo plans on graduating in December in enrolling at CU next January.

Don Chapman – DB

De-committed … November 19th

Chapman’s tweet: Thank you to the staff of the university of Colorado. They have amazing coaches in @CoachAmbrose33 and @Backendcoach12 I appreciate the opportunity that was given to me but I’ve decided to decommit and reopen my recruitment. Thank you believing in me. Much respect

Just the facts … Committed July 10th … Chapman is a 6’2″, 185-pound defensive back from San Diego, California  Rivals bio  247 Sports bio

What others say about Chapman … Chapman is rated as a three-star prospect by both Rivals and 247 Sports. Chapman earned first-team all-CIF honors as a junior playing safety and wide receiver. In 2017, Chapman had 84 tackles, 59 unassisted, with three interceptions. On offense, Chapman had 17 receptions for 225 yards and two touchdowns.

“Chapman is a jack-of-all-trades who can contribute all over the field. Long term, he’s probably a defensive back but even then it’s undecided whether he’ll be better at cornerback or safety. He’s a long, rangy, athletic player who has excellent hands so at defensive back he’s not looking to knock passes away – he’s looking to pick them off. At wide receiver and on special teams, Chapman is also a major contributor so Colorado is getting a kid who can do a lot of everything.” – Rivals.com National Analyst Adam Gorney

Chapman had other offers from … over a dozen schools. From the Pac-12, Chapman had offers from USC, Washington State, and Arizona. Other offers came from a number of Mountain West schools, including Colorado State, UNLV, New Mexico, Fresno State, Utah State and Hawai’i. One other offer of note: Army – a pretty fair indicator as to the quality of individual and student who has committed to become a Buff.

In his own words … “I am going to be playing college football at the University of Colorado,” Chapman told KUSI, a San Diego television station. “Colorado is a great program. Coach (Mike) Mac(Intyre), Coach ShaDon (Brown) and Coach (Ashley) Ambrose… I talked to a lot of coaches, I have been a few places, and I just fell in love with everything they are doing up there. And it is also great the head coach is a defensive backs guy, too, that works in my favor.”

Datona Jackson – DE

De-committed … November 14th

Tweet posted by Jackson … “Would also like to announce that my recruitment is open to all schools until further notice”

Just the facts … Committed October 5th … Jackson is a 6’4″, 265-pound defensive end from Palm Desert (Calif.) College of the Desert Rivals bio  247 Sports bio

What others say about Jackson … Jackson is rated as a three-star prospect by both Rivals and 247 Sports. According to 247 Sports, Jackson is the No. 5 strongside defensive end prospect out of the junior college ranks this recruiting cycle, and the No. 62 junior college prospect overall.

A graduate of Mississinawa Valley High School in Ohio, Jackson initially planned to walk-on at San Diego State but he went the Junior College route instead. He has recorded 22 tackles, four-and-a-half tackles for a loss and two-and-a-half sacks through the first four games of his sophomore season at College of the Desert. Jackson will have three years to play two at Colorado.

Jackson had other offers from … only one other Power-Five conference school, UCLA.  Jackson did have other offers from a number of other schools, however, including arguably the best two schools in the Mountain West Conference, Boise State and San Diego State.

Kamryn Farrar – LB

De-Committed … September 18th … Committed to Oklahoma State

Just the facts … Committed March 14th … Johnson is a 6’0″, 198-pound linebacker from Skyline high school in Dallas, Texas –  Rivals bio  247 Sports bio

What others say about Farrar … Farrar is rated as a three-star prospect by Rivals (5.6 rating), but was not rated by 247Sports at the time of his commitment (later picking up three-star status. As a junior, Farrar was a first-team all-district and honorable mention all-state linebacker.

Farrar had other offers from … only smaller schools when he committed to Colorado. Schools like Jackson State and Illinois State were on his list, giving Buff fans pause. He later picked up offers from schools like Air Force and Texas State. At the time of his de-commitment from Colorado, Farrar’s only Power-Five Conference school offers were from Colorado and Oklahoma State.

In his own words … Farrar’s tweet announcing his commitment: “Enjoyed my time at Colorado today and after a long discussion with coach Brown and Coach MacIntyre, I am proud to say that I am committed to the University of Colorado.”

Tarik Luckett – WR/CB

Just the facts … Committed September 13th … Luckett is a 6’3″, 185-pound receiver from San Juan Capistrano, California … Rivals bio247 Sports bio

What others say about Luckett … Luckett is considered by 247 Sports and Rivals to be a three-star receiver. When he committed in September, Luckett was rated as a four-star prospect by 247 Sports, but fell off after a mediocre senior season (at least in terms of production).

At 247 Sports, Luckett is rated as the No. 89 wide receiver in the nation, the No. 75 player overall out of the state of California this fall, and the No. 664 player overall in the country. At Rivals, Luckett is listed as the No. 94 player overall out of the state of California. As a junior in 2017, Luckett caught 53 passes for 923 yards and eight touchdowns, but had only 25 receptions for 487 yards and seven touchdowns as a senior. Luckett also played defensive back for J Serra Catholic (considered by Max Preps to be the 17th-best high school football program in the nation), with seven tackles and an interception.

Lucket has been timed at a 4.69 in the 40-yard dash.

“Luckett is a big outside receiver with length who can go up and beat smaller cornerbacks for a lot of 50/50 balls. When I saw him during the spring, he had some breakout moments but needs to show more consistent domination to dramatically move up the rankings. But Colorado is getting a good one. He has size, athleticism and play-making ability so in the Buffaloes’ offense, he should be a big asset on the outside.” – Rivals.com West Coast Analyst Adam Gorney”

“Luckett is one of the state’s most versatile players. He entered this year regarded as one of the region’s best receiver prospects but also emerged as a promising corner prospect as well. At 6-2, with long arms, quick feet and better top end speed than given credit for, Luckett has all the measurable’s to play corner at the next level. He has a little bit of an edge to his game as well and when you throw in his ball skills, which are very good from his days playing receiver, it’s easy to see he’s a legitimate two-way player.”Greg Biggins at 247 Sports

Luckett had other offers from … at least ten schools. From the Pac-12, Luckett had offers from Oregon, Arizona State, Washington State and Oregon State. From the Mountain West, Luckett was pursued by Colorado State, Nevada, Fresno State, and Utah State.

In his own words … “This is what I’ve been dreaming of ever since I was a kid!”, Luckett wrote on Twitter. Luckett committed to Colorado sight unseen, but took his official visit to Boulder in November.

Here is a link to Luckett’s Hudl.com highlights.

Jashua Allen – LB

Just the facts … Committed August 25th … Allen is a 6’2″, 220-pound linebacker from Yuma, Arizona (Arizona Western Community College) Rivals bio  247 Sports bio

What others say about Allen … At the time of his commitment, Allen was not rated by Rivals, but was given a three-star rating hours after his commitment to Colorado. At 247 Sports, Allen was rated as a four-star recruit, but fell off to a three-star rating over the course of the 2018 season.

Of the junior college recruits from the Recruiting Class of 2019, Allen is considered to be the No. 15 overall prospect, and the No. 2 inside linebacker in the nation by 247, while Rivals has him as the No. 27 junior college prospect in the country.

Allen plans to graduate in May, 2019, and will have three years to play two.

Allen had other offers from … at least ten other schools. From the Pac-12, Allen had offers from Utah and Washington State. Other Power-Five conference offers came from schools like TCU, Arkansas, Illinois, and Iowa State. The TCU offer came after the firing of Mike MacIntyre, while the other schools were already on Allen before he committed last summer.

In his own words … In his commitment tweet, Allen thanked all of the other schools that had recruited him, mentioned how it was a dream of his to play D1 football, and thanked his family and friends before announcing his Buffs’ commitment.

“I love the game. I’ll do anything for this game,” Allen said. “It’s taken me a long way. I leave it all on the field.”

Here is a link to Hudl.com highlights of Allen in action.

Alec Pell – LB

Just the facts … Committed August 6th … Pell is a 6’4″, 220-pound athlete from Cherry Creek high school in Denver Rivals bio  247 Sports bio

What other say about Pell … Pell is considered to be a three-star prospect by both Rivals and 247 Sports. Pell is rated by 247 Sports as the No. 11 player overall out of the state of Colorado this year, the No. 98 outside linebacker in the nation, and the No. 1,329 player overall in the country. According to Cherry Creek’s Maxpreps page, Pell ran for 617 yards and six touchdowns on 109 carries during his junior season. He also added 139 receiving yards and three more scores. As a senior, Pell focused on defense, recording 83 tackles for Dave Logan at Cherry Creek.

As unfortunate as this scenario is for Boise State, it’s a notable coup for the Buffaloes, who now have enough recruiting pull to be able to take a wait-and-see approach with some local talent and still not be affected much. Pell gives the Buffs’ class a versatile linebacker prospect that has the potential to contribute in a number of ways, whether that’s in run support, as an edge rusher in some packages or even in coverage when facing some of the pass-happy programs in the Pac-12 Conference. This move might fly under the radar in a regional sense, but it would not be surprising to see Pell turn into a key and reliable player for CU in a few years – Blair Angulo, analyst for 247 Sports

“Pell shows on film a linebacker who can be effective rushing off the edge and also dropping back in coverage and making plays that way. I would like to see him filling gaps more often and making a play on the running back but he’s an athletic kid who looks like a big playmaker.  I also like that he played running back because now Pell has a much deeper understanding of what it takes to shine at linebacker since he knows what the offensive guy is trying to do.” –Rivals.com National Analyst Adam Gorney

Pell’s commitment marks the third straight year that the Buffs have landed a recruit from Cherry Creek. Dimitri Stanley signed with Colorado last December, while Jon Van Diest was a member of the Recruiting Class of 2017.

Pell had other offers from … over a dozen schools, most notably Boise State. Pell had been a commit for the Broncos since April, but flipped to Colorado in August. Pell had other Power-Five conference offers from Cal and Iowa State, along with Mountain West offers from Boise State, Colorado State, and Air Force.

Here is a link to Pell’s Hudl.com highlights.

Na’im Rodman – DL

Just the facts … Committed August 1st … Rodman is a 6’3″, 290-pound defensive lineman from Bellflower, California  Rivals bio  247 Sports bio

What others say about Rodman … Rodman is considered to be a three-star prospect by both Rivals and 247 Sports. At Rivals, Rodman is rated as the No. 93 player overall out of the state of California. At 247 Sports, Rodman is considered to be the No. 76 defensive tackle in the nation, the No. 117 player out of California, and the No. 1,227 player overall in the country.

This past season, for the 12-1 St. John Bosco Braves, Rodman had 59 tackles (25 solo), including 13 tackles for loss.

“Rodman is a big-bodied interior defensive lineman who can cause a lot of problems. For someone so big, Rodman is very light on his feet, attacks the backfield without a problem and he has a great motor to keep pursuing the quarterback or running back. I’ve been surprised even more Pac-12 schools didn’t offer him … He’s not just a run-stuffer up the middle, he has the speed to get into the backfield and cause problems.” – Rivals.com National Analyst Adam Gorney

Rodman played for St. John Bosco in Bellflower, California, rated by Xcellent 25 Writers poll as the No. 1 high school team in the nation (MaxPreps had St. John Bosco as the No. 2 team in the country this fall). Colorado already has a St. John Bosco Brave on its roster, sophomore outside linebacker Jacob Callier.

Rodman had other offers from … a dozen other schools. From Power-Five conferences, Rodman had offers from Boston College, Minnesota, and Oregon State. Other notable offers came from Air Force and Colorado State, plus other schools which give you a good idea Rodman is not an academic risk: Army; Navy; Rice; and Dartmouth.

Here is a link to Rodman’s Hudl.com highlights.

Jaren Mangham – RB

Just the facts … Committed July 24th … Mangham is a 6’2″, 217-pound running back from Detroit, Michigan  Rivals bio  247 Sports bio

What others say about Mangham ... Mangham is rated as a four-star running back by Rivals; a three-star athlete by 247 Sports. At Rivals, Mangham is considered to be the No. 14 running back in the nation, the No. 9 player overall out of the state of Michigan, and the No. 245 player in the country. Meanwhile, at 247 Sports, Mangham, listed as an “athlete” (both at running back and linebacker), is rated as No. 23 athlete in the nation, the No. 10 player out of the state of Michigan, and the No. 423player in the country.

Quotes from the time of Mangham’s commitment in July:

“He has not yet started his senior season and already Jaren Mangham is the most offered prospect ever to come out of the state of Michigan. That’s pretty impressive considering the state has produced a Heisman Trophy winner and multiple No. 1 overall NFL Draft picks in the last 12 years.

“What made Mangham such a coveted prospect is his combination of size, speed and athleticism, which has also given him position versatility. We project him as a running back and that is where the majority of schools recruited him, but other schools liked him at linebacker and he has the potential to develop into a talent at that position as well. We do want to see him deliver on all that promise as a senior, but the potential is definitely there and the ceiling is sky high.” – Rivals.com Midwest Recruiting Analyst Josh Helmholdt

Mangham had other offers from … a good chunk of the nation. The offer sheet is at least 47 teams long, including some heavy hitters on the national scene (Alabama; Michigan State; Florida State; Michigan; West Virginia), a number of Pac-12 rivals (Oregon; UCLA; Washington State; Arizona; Oregon State), and a plethora of other Power-Five schools (Arkansas; Kentucky; Mississippi; Minnesota; TCU; Tennessee; Boston College; Indiana; Illinois; Maryland; Mississippi State; North Carolina State; Purdue … and others).

In his own words … “I really clicked with every single last coach on the staff,” Mangham told 247 Sports when he committed. “Coach (Mike) Mac(Intyre), I was talking with Coach Mac, Coach (Darian) Hagan, Coach (Darrin) Chiv(erini) was a big part for me me. The way they’re going to utilize me on the offensive side of the ball was everything I wanted to hear.”

Jaylen Martin – CB

Just the facts … Committed June 29th … Martin is a 6’2″, 170-pound defensive back from Corona, California Rivals bio 247Sports bio

What others say about Martin … Martin is rated as a three-star prospect by both Rivals and 247Sports. Rivals rates Martin as the No. 93 overall prospect out of the state of California, while 247 Sports has Martin as the No. 98 cornerback in the nation, the No. 94 player out of California, and the 1,010 overall in the nation.

In his senior year, Martin had 30 tackles (21 solo), with three tackles for loss, two interceptions, and a fumble recovery. He has been timed at 4.65 in the 40-yard dash.

“Martin really impressed me at the Rivals 3 Stripe Camp presented by adidas in Los Angeles this spring, and he was one of the standout defensive backs from the event. He has length and he’s not afraid to be physical at the line of scrimmage. His long arms allow him to knock down passes as well, so that’s going to be beneficial, and I think he could be utilized at either cornerback or safety. I wonder if he can run with elite receivers in the Pac-12. I’m sure we will see, but with his length and toughness at the line of scrimmage, he’s not going to make it easy for opponents.” – Rivals.com analyst Adam Gorney

Martin had other offers from … at least half of the Pac-12, including both Washington schools, both Oregon schools, as well as Cal and Utah. Martin’s other offers came from school like Boston College, BYU, Rutgers, Hawai’i, and Colorado State. Martin took official visits to Utah and Cal after committing to Colorado in June.

In his own words … Martin’s tweet announcing his commitment: “After many discussions with my family, I will be continuing my football & educational career at the University of Colorado”.

Here is a link to Martin’s Hudl.com highlights.

Valentin Senn – OL

Just the facts … Committed June 24th … Senn is a 6’7″, 280-pound offensive lineman from Innsbruck, Austria Rivals bio 247 Sports bio

What others say about Senn … Senn, an offensive lineman from Austria, was not rated by either Rivals or 247 Sports when he committed. Senn received a two-star rating from Rivals ten days after his commitment, but was subsequently given a three-star rating by 247 Sports. Senn is rated by 247 Sports as the 149-best offensive tackle prospect in the Class of 2019, and is rated as the No. 1 prospect out of Austria … so he has that going for him.

Senn has only been playing football for 2 1/2 years, so will be a long-term project if he is to become a Power-Five caliber player.

Still, despite his lack of experience, Senn was invited to participate in the prestigious Under Armour All-American Football game in Orlando, Florida in January.

“I’m very excited to announced that I was selected to compete in the (All-American game,)” Senn tweeted. “I’m very grateful to get a chance to compete against the best and to represent Austria, Europe, (Colorado), (the Swarco Raiders) and Gridiron Imports in Orlando!”

Senn had other offers from … a number of other schools, though none from any other Power-Five conference schools. The good news that there were at least eight other offers out there. The bad news is that most of the offers were from smaller schools. Akron and Buffalo from the Mid-American conference were the highest profile offers, with Senn receiving offers from schools like Towson, UConn, Dartmouth, and Holy Cross.

Here is a link to Senn’s Hudl.com highlights.

Just the facts … Committed June 23rd … Wiley is a 6’5″, 250-pound offensive lineman from Eaglecrest, Colorado  Rivals bio  247Sportsbio

What others say about Wiley … Wiley is rated as a three-star prospect by both Rivals and 247Sports. At 247Sports, Wiley is rated as the No. 12 player overall out of Colorado, the No. 68 offensive guard in the nation, and the No. 1,384 player overall in the nation. While Wiley is not very big at this point (listed as between 250 and 260 pounds), he won’t turn 18 until January, so he is young for his grade level.

Wiley had other offers from … at least a half dozen Power-Five conference schools, including Washington State, Oklahoma State, and Arizona State.

In his own words … Wiley was one of the first prospects to meet with new head coach Mel Tucker, coming in a few days after Tucker was hired. After his official visit, Wiley remained committed to Colorado. “This visit to Colorado decided it in my mind,” told CUSportsNation. “We wanted to make sure we liked Coach Tucker, and we did. If we didn’t, we were going to visit Washington State, but we cancelled that visit. We’re 100% in with Colorado.”

Joshia Davis – RB

Just the facts … Committed December 12th … Davis is a 5′ 10″ wide receiver from Valor Christian high school in Highlands Ranch, Colorado Rivals bio  247 Sports bio

What others say about Davis … Davis is rated as a three-star prospect by both Rivals and 247 Sports. 247 Sports has Davis rated as the No. 10 player out of the state, the No. 81 running back in the nation, and the No. 1,252 player overall in the country.

Davis’ numbers – and ranking – declined this fall. Davis measured in at a solid 5-foot-11, 204-pounds on his official visit. He racked up 3,932 all-purpose yards and scored 52 touchdowns during his prep career despite missing the majority of his senior season due to multiple injuries, including a pulled hamstring. When he committed, Rivals rated Davis as the No. 5 player out of Colorado for the Class of 2019, while 247 Sports had him at No. 4 (Davis dropped to No. 1,252 overall now, down from No. 667 when he committed last December).

As a senior, had 52 carries for 252 yards and five touchdowns. This after a junior season in which Davis earned All-Colorado honors after accounting for more than 1,000 yards of offense in only eight games in 2017 (129 carries for 771 yards and 11 touchdowns; 15 receptions for 260 yards and three touchdowns) .  As a sophomore, Davis ran for 869-yards and scored ten touchdowns. He also had 39 receptions for 429-yards and five additional scores.

Davis had other offers from … only Colorado State, though there is interest in Davis from all over the country, including Arizona State, Cal, Utah, Stanford and Washington from the Pac-12. Other schools, including Nebraska and Arkansas, already had designated assistant coaches assigned to Davis. Committing last December, and shutting down his recruitment, also had an effect on the number of teams showing an interest in Davis.

In his own words … “I knew there were going to be a lot of coaches that were going to want to offer me,” Davis told 247Sports. “But I asked myself, ‘Is there any place you would rather be than Colorado?’ I made a list. I even checked off Alabama, the big name schools, and I said, ‘I really feel like CU is the place.’ And why not go to a school that has been wanting me since the beginning. I wanted to go to a school that wanted me, rather than me wanting them. Because (if I did the latter), it probably wouldn’t work out as well.”

Here is a link to Hudl.com highlights of Davis.

  1. Walkons.

Buffs missed on a couple of preferred walkons. The RB from Longmont signed a PWO with Wyoming. That is a loss

The Buffs did sign a PWO with Grant Ciccarone a 6’3 212 QB from Aurora. See I told you there was a secret on out there.

Also a PWO from a long snapper from Bosco in Cali

There are some others but I forgot

    1. Nice catch.
Not sure how he got deleted … he’s back where he was before, a December 16, 2018, commit.

      Thanks,
      Stuart

  2. I’m really stoked to get a second Shenault. Heck yeah!
I’m looking forward to what surprises tomorrow may bring.

Unrelated, do we have 1, 2, or 3 from Alabama? Could read the breakdown at the top any of the three ways.

    1. Jenda,
Good catch – the correct number for Alabama is two: graduate transfer Jalen Harris and junior college transfer Jalen Montgomery.

  3. So nine commits signing tomorrow? Any silent commits out there? Hmmmmmmm maybe?

So this class is gonna end up ranked in the forties somewhere. Not Bad. The previous coach got em ranked at 68. Not that it matters
Probably no qb. (not even a secret one? damn) HCMT is gonna use the “no qb taken in the 2019 class” as a large selling point to the qb class of 2020 which appears to be loaded.

Certainly he has decided the lines are and have been the issue. Size for sure. Also he has added speed at the skill positions. Actually quite a bit if you dig in. I’m pretty impressed. And just like the previous ones HCMT will get the benefit of the doubt. But IMVHO there is no question there is a large good difference from the past couple.

    Buffs

Note: Did you see his interview on College football live on ESPN? Dang good.

  4. Sweet to get Viska’s brother. This recruiting class has been pretty impressive considering the circumstances.

  5. This class has 5 defensive tackles.
    In comparison:
    2018 had 2 one left
2017 had 2 one red shirted (will be available this year)
    2016 had 0
2015 had 4 one move to OL one left
    2014 had 2 one weighed 247 lbs
    2013 had 0

It appears HCMT has identified and issue and is here “TO WIN BIG”

    Go Buffs

  6. Question for any and all who know more about CU recruiting than I do (which opens this question up to everybody by the way): Does anyone know whether the Buffs (either under former head coach or current head coach) had made an offer to a linebacker from Newark Central High School here in New Jersey named Mohammad Kamara? I ask simply b/c he signed with Temple shortly before Christmas but with Temple having changed head coaches twice since then, he asked to be released from his signed LOI. Temple has granted his request.

According to the story I read today on nj.com, which is the online arm of NJ’s largest paper, The Star-Ledger, CU had made him an offer at some point not too long before he signed with Temple. Curious as to whether offer was made on Coach Tucker’s watch and, if so, whether the Buffs will be back in touch with him now.

  7. So
    24 so far
    11 offense
    13 defense

10 lineman (5 on each side)

I like it. Big guys 2

    5 more.
    1 wr
    2 dl
    1 ol
    and ????

    Buffs

Note: I am sure Stu will put up the article with the strength coach so I won’t horn in. Make sure you read 1 and 2 with another one coming. Very Very interesting.
But I will say the new schedule allows for 4 more weeks of weight training. And wanting the oline guys smaller for quickness is not what we are gonna see going forward.

Note 2: Can a defensive focus get the Mighty Buffs to the promised land? Counting on it.

  8. So how many commitments can they take?

    Rule is 25 per year
    But
Early enrollees this spring can count against last years Class.
So I believe there were 5 early enrollees and 21 last year so they Buffs can get commitments up to 29.

But of course the key issue is 85. As in 85 scholarships.
To get t o 85 there will be attrition
To Get to 85 there will be greyshirts.

    Gonna be interesting.

    Buffs

Note: Stacking up the big guys. Should be 2 maybe 3 more.

Note: And the super secret silent qb commit? Is there one? Asking for a friend.

  9. I’d like to add this just for reference.

Wonder where Chev stood on this with the last staff.

    Regardless. #60 is rarely wrong

    Up the Buffalo

      1. Hmmm

Yes I did. But that was due to his horrible act on the radio. He has toned it down. Regardless he knows and develops players

        Response from a friend.

          1. I used to watch that show on TV a long time ago and Jenifer Aniston………..err, sorry about that, you guys just confused me, now I get it: Snarkiness. “Never Mind.”

  10. So lets look at the big guys signed on in this cycle
Jauntavius Johnson Grad transfer…..6’2 320 DL
Janaz Jordan junior college…..6’4 305 DL
Jeremiah Doss Junior college 6’4 260 DL
Tucker Williams High School 6’3 320 DL
    Na’im Rodman High School 6’2 295 DL

    To Join
Mustafa Johnson Junior …6’2 290 Dl
Terrance Lang Soph 6’7 275 Dl
    Jalen Sami RSF……6’6 320 Dl
    Lyle Tuiloma Sr….6’3 310 dl
Terriek Roberts Jr 6’6 27 dl
Melenkiola Finau RSF 6’3 260 DL
Ben Martinez RSF 6’2 270 DL

Okay, of course they gotta be able to play, but ya have to like the size and the depth.

    1 grad transfer
    2 JC
    2 high school

Sounds like the perfect mix every year.

    Buffalo Up Big
    Uh Oh More Big Buffalo

Note: MFHCMT and staff seem to be rolling right along

  11. 2019 Recruiting class is an interesting one this year. Gonna be some JC players for sure. Some will say they must be borderline academics cause they are JC and not full qualifiers out of high school …sheesh. Some will put out the rope-a-dope click baiter review/post/article to imply that MFHCMT is bringing in lower intelligent players. Especially those big guy don’t ya know.

Are there are more at risk recruits this year than the last 6 years?
Based on the amount of real or perceived Katie received there must have been a hell of a lot of em. A hell of a lot of them. (Mickey was use to this and hence Katie was brought in.) I am really happy Katie came here. She had an impact on many players and people and this university. But

BK……….there was academic support and yes even during the summer
DK……….academic support became a selling point
AK………..academic support will be good and maybe even better than ever. (More Staffing)

    Go Buffs.

Note: Difference between this class and some of the past. The MFHCMT staff is full of recruiters. Real coaches with recruiting expertise and doing the work. This is where the real upgrade is and will be. Chev now has help……………starting at the top.

How many days to game time……………….?

  12. Is it me, or does it seem like more of the recent recruiting targets have been borderline academic qualifiers – only based on reading their snippets on rivals, 247, etc.? If so, I hope the academic support staff can help them out. Or, maybe I’m just imagining that, and it’s really the same as always?

    Go Buffs

  13. Very keen on seeing Johnson this year….it will be kind of a referendum on the state of PAC12 Olines. Here we have a guy who couldn’t get on the field in the SEC/Auburn, at this juncture thinking he will be asked to be Javy and control the middle this year, looking forward to seeing his power game and how it stacks up (cautiously optimistic, in Tuck we Trust).
    Welcome to Boulder!!! Go Buffs.

  14. This is what has been lacking in the past 6 years: ( I would list this in bold type if I could… I’m definitely not an I.T. savant, like VK )…… BUT, mark this down for future reference !

*** Coach Tucker sez, “We wanted to get bigger. We want to be able to run the ball on our terms on offense and we need to be able to stop the run on defense. Both of those things start with the offensive and defensive lines.”

***This is ALMOST TO GOOD TO BE TRUE……BUT IT IS !!!!! The MAN actually knows what it takes to have a competitive team….one that can compete with the best in the PAC-12.

( Imagine what Lindsey could have done with a little bit of blocking help ! He could possibly have been an All American RB ).

    GO BUFFS

    1. TO…………..TOO…………….TWO. I went TO the store and bought TOO much beer for the TWO of us. Diddleledamn………. and this is a pet peeve of mine. Seeesh

  15. The Mighty Buffs instate recruiting this cycle.

2 of the top 5 to the kornholers 1 and 5
    1 to Oregon 3
    1 to Stanford 4

    in the 6 to 10 Buffs get 2 6 and 10
    Iowa gets 1 7
    WSU gets 1 8
    Stanford gets 1 9

Buffs get 11 and 12 too.

    Go Buffs.

Note: Buffs had #2 but he followed Roper.

  16. ESPN says:
Georgia freshman quarterback Justin Fields is exploring the possibility of transferring…
    AND
Defensive tackle Aubrey Solomon is transferring from Michigan…Solomon was the No. 63 ranked prospect in the 2017 recruiting class, the No. 7 ranked recruit in the state of Georgia…
OK Coach Tuck, lets see those renowned recruiting chops!! These boys would look great in BLACK and GOLD!!

  17. Alabamas, Georgias, Clemsons, LSUs….all field dominating defenses due to the fact that they have dominant DLs (see number of drafted DL to see proof). Now the trick is development, only a handful of DLs every year are ready to play year 1, and they go to the aforementioned schools. In Tuck we trust (though I wish he trusted Kwhann enough to keep him).

    1. Irie, isn’t it great when you see a 290 lb DE run down a QB from behind? That’s impressive. They seem to be all over the teams you mentioned above. 300-ish pounds, running a 4.7 40 or so. Crazy. Mustafa’s that guy. Izzy may be too. Here’s to hoping they get a lot more like them (and better even). And, to hoping that the new OL guy from Modesto JC has a similar impact on the offensive line next year as Mustafa had this year.

      Go Buffs.

  18. Though there is not much “splash” in these recruits, I really like the emphasis on large guys in the trenches. Hopefully this will result in more power and cohesion. Other than perhaps 2016, I can’t remember a time in the Mac2 era where the Buffs O line demonstrated those characteristics. At least the D line made progress last year. I’m encouraged.

    1. It may have been since gurode and co that CU has had a stacked O line. I like these guys’ size. That’s a thousand pounds o Buffs right there. Hopefully they have good feet and can all move.

      Go Buffs

  19. hmmmmm
Got 5 O linemen on the list now. The 2 Colorado boys will have to bulk up and we will have to wait and see about the Austrian. Tucker is heading in the right direction. We need a couple more D linemen ….maybe the Michigan kid? AND 4 star Mangham and Huffman are still on board.
Any of the defectors follow Mickey to Ole Miss? Hope they enjoy cockroaches, skeeters, mold, card board burritos and working out in a steam bath.

  20. No use wringing my hands over what now shows 8 decommitts—4 of which are DB’s. The 2018 team roster showed 19 DB’s (5 were seniors) on the squad. The current recruiting class still shows 2 that are committed…and I won’t be the least bit surprised if a few more aren’t added in the days, and months ahead for this 2019 class. It wasn’t all that long ago that fans were saying “Gee, can’t Mac recruit any other position other than DB?”

    1. Funny, I believe the last game the Mighty Buffs had two players recruited as wide receivers playing at the defensive back position.

      So the answer is ………….No

      Buffs

      1. VK, speaking of recruits, I remember you mentioning last spring about how big the JC transfer from CA Jones was. Does he still have a chance of figuring in this upcoming year to an offense that might finally utilize a TE in the passing game?

        1. 6’6 250

He is a senior now. Didn’t hardly at all. No catches. Didn’t use the TE except for mostly blocking as you know.
Does the new staff give him a chance? Dam hope they get all the Tight Ends involved in more than just blocking. Every game. That Chev offense (managed by WacMac) was a disaster. Blame it on the oline if you like, but it really really sucked as a scheme and play design and play calling. But ya know there were some great plays called in the beginning along with good execution. Then it just went to krapville.

Now they got this grad transfer coming in so……………… maybe there is a change coming where the tight ends get involved. Jones can play. They didn’t let him last year……….The good news………….Bernardi is outta here

          Buffs

  21. Whoa, another one bites the dust.

    Summary:
Wilmer: No other power 5 offers
    Farrar: Oklahoma State (Late Offer)
    Chapman: Washington State (Late offer)
Toler: Washington, Arizona State, UCLA, Cal, Oregon State and Washington State, Boston College, Illinois, Minnesota, Vanderbilt
Jones: Oregon State, California. UCLA. (late offer his dream)
    Johnson: Arizona, Oregon State, TT.
Trujillo: Oregon, Oregon State, Iowa State (Probably at Utah State)
Jackson: UCLA Boise, Nebraska, Arizona, Florida, Oregon State. USC- late offer His dream.
    Evans: Alabama, Michigan……….good offer list.

So no offense to anyone, but this List is a WacMac list..

Tuck em up Tuck em up Go CU

Note: Tucker wants players that can beat USC and it starts now (Maybe the JC guy)
Note 2: Tucker had choices who to visit. He made them. None of the above were on the list.
Note 3: New Sheriff in town.
Most important note: 12-14……………..GOLF, GOLF, AND MORE GOLF.

      1. Yup not too bad. But as a whole not great. Gotta be the whole. They are fillers for the big guys. They already got their 4 stars. Oh Well.

I hope Coach T can replace em with better. He is already working a Michigan trifecta.
Ya know, I just want em to pound Knebrasky and whip USC and the rest comes nicely along.
Time for next level work here. Seriously 6 years went by very painfully slowly.

Time to get off the plateau.

        Buffs.

  22. I see folks in the media keep stating TX, So. Cal are the areas where we need to keep connections and recruiting base. Folks even harken back to Mac1 days…in those days we also had a pipeline into the other LA, Louisiana. I look forward to seeing more 3 star kids from the South than Southern California…

  23. We shouldn’t worry. If our new coach is what we expect, RG should know. In RG, I have hope.

The big question is: Can Coach Tucker elevate the talent we have and go get some real hogs for the trenches, which has handicapped us in the past. I have hopes…. not exceptionally “High Hopes” but “Hopes” none-the-less.

    Go Big Buffs.

  24. Little concerned that there has been a half dozen de-commits and no defections to CU- especially from Georgia. And the early signing will remove a bunch of talent from the pool. I do agree with Golden that the coaches are probably letting current commits know now if the new coaching staff isn’t interested in them. Next year can’t be a “bye” for the new coaches. We have to get to a bow.

On the positive side – can you imagine CU having a stable of RB’s like Georgia has had over the last few years! And, of course, an offensive line.

    1. It’s hard to imagine a kid decommitting from a top 10 program in the SEC for CU just to follow a coordinator. That happens on occasion when hen the move is more lateral or when the kid had no chance of ever seeing the field at the original school. Our better chance is hearing about some guys transferring after their New Year’s Day bowl game.

  25. Tucker will obviously be a very different coach than Macintyre. It is better, IMO, that de-commits happen now, rather than transfers later. Interpersonal and cultural situations are all about fit. We may lose a few more but Tucker will bring in some talented guys who will fit well by the time early February rolls around.

  26. Just scratching my head and talking outloud about this recruiting situation.
No way I was going to get a major college offer. No way I was going to play in some place like Chadron NE either. I knew I wanted to attend CU from the get go. I had a high school buddy that had 2 older brothers in Boulder and visited them and the campus a few times before I graduated. I couldn’t wait to get out on my own and off to college.
That doesnt seem to be the way it is with football payers these days. Seems like a lot of them need that cozy, intimate surrogate daddy relationship with the coach. I can understand why a commit might be wavering after the OSU embarrassment and each loss thereafter but in my mind after so many of those losses and the paralyzed offense the firing of MM might have been a positive factor in my decision.
Maybe Evan’s realization the new OC wanted Dual threat guys played into his decision.
We had an O line guy decommit. Thats a position that could be open for playing as a freshman on this team. Hopefully Tucker can get some Southland 300 pound beasts follow him up here.
We had a DB decommit even with DBs being Tucker’s specialty. Oh gee my new buddies Ambrose and Brown arent there any more. What am I going to do? Seems like a DB commit would at least want to stay in the PAC 12 where he would get a lot more tested.
Sounds like we need more commits with more mental toughness or at least a little mental independence. Hopefully tucker can find them and win before he has to have all of his guys on the roster.

    1. Just scratching my head and talking outloud about this recruiting situation.

Dang Nab ep, lower the meds man, lower the meds. I seen people like that. Seen em at the bus station and the train station and on the streets. Holy Moly.

Anyway that recruiting deal is a funny deal. Coach, school, both? Who cares. Still kids with dreams. Big dreams. Gonna make it, get the money, ride it high, blah blah. Hell I just wanted to be a postman. Couldn’t pass the test. Went to Nam. Passed the test and the rest is history. Praise the lord. Oh ya the point. The high school football years. A star. Babied by the colleges the writers yu da man etc etc. You be the picker. Now first ya gotta be the pickee but once you get past that hurdle you the picker. .08% of high school football players get to the pros.

      73,000…………16,000…………………253………………..1.6%…………………………1.9%

The dream. The lottery ticket. The golden horse. The Unicorn……….. Gotta let em have it even if it really is the parent driving the decision.

All works out. School Coach…………………student player.

      You only had one job.

      Buffalo Buffalo

Note: Hey weren’t you the one complaining about too many defensive backs? Your problem solved.

  27. Yo Stuart,

Just as new head coach Mel Tucker has been evaluating assistants and deciding which to keep on his staff, it is quite possible he has been doing the same with the recruits.

Sometimes a new coach lets an old coach’s recruit know that perhaps he should look elsewhere. And it’s better for the kid to be able to “de-commit” and open his recruiting back up than to admit that his scholarship offer was perhaps pulled.

I want to wish the young men well wherever they end up. I also have full faith in Mel Tucker that he knows what kind of players he wants. Coach Tucker knows what it’s like to be in the living rooms of four and five star recruits. He is a shrewd evaluator of talent at the highest levels.

The early signing date is here in December but the regular old date is still in February. Everybody needs to allow Coach Tucker to do his job and build his class. He will get it done.

The Mighty Golden Buffaloes are coming. And Mel Tucker will be leading the way. GO BUFFS!

    Mark

  28. Titus Toler visited Wisconsin.

3/4* Marvin Ham (Belleville, MI; BC verbal) Tweeted about CU offer.

Will be very interesting to see what happens up to 12/19.

  29. I wish Evans well as he moves on. Hindsight being 20-20 I wish the team would’ve let Tyler Lytle get more action down the stretch as things went south. But no need to press any panic buttons yet as the incumbent Montez is still around with Lytle and an RS Freshman in Blake Stenstrom, who some claim may have been underrated coming out of high school during the recruiting process. May end up waiting until the 2020 cycle to add another QB. We’ll see.

  30. Yup lost their quarterback. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Evans………..”I’m a very loyal person,” Evans said. “They’ve known from Day 1 that Roper was my guy. He’s a great mentor and he was a huge part of my decision.

Well sorry Young Evans. Good luck and good bye.

    Go Buffs.

    Upgrade the QB position………………………

  31. Ty always seemed a little waif like, to me. Unless that kid develops a ton, physically, it would be a big surprise to see him take the beating of a d1 qb. I wish him well, and it will be interesting to see this class round out.

    Go Buffs

  32. Not a big fan of the “pro” style QB in college so not too disappointed that Evans decommitted. He is a local kid and I mean just down the street from my house but I would still rather see a real dual threat QB at CU. We just don’t have the horses up front to be a team that can have a pro style offense. USC/Stanford/Alabama have that style and they still get beat by dual threat QB’s. (Alabama not so much but once in a while)

    1. So the qb postion is interesting for the Mighty Buffs.
      Montez
      Noyer
      Lytle
      Senstrom.

Wonder how they all fit into the new system that Evans decided he couldn’t play in. (Just a kid ya know)
      Oh well
      Gotta get a New Way

  33. Hey all you commits and prospective recruits, let Coach Tucker into your home or take that visit over again. CU football has a new sheriff in town and they all mean business.

  34. As much as it’s suggested that recruits are supposed to choose a school and not coach, it isn’t realistic. They aren’t “recruits,” they are human beings and form relationships with the coaches throughout the process. I thank each player for choosing Colorado and have no issue with whatever decision they make for their future. That said, I hope Colorado can find a way to keep Mangham in the fold. If Evans was the best they could do at back-up RB this year (not a slight on Evans, he was a walk on who did his best), they clearly have no depth to take over next year. Let’s hope he chose Colorado and is happy to still come to Boulder.

  35. Welp,

He says he has not decommitted, just opened his recruiting up.

Just got an offer from the Beavs.

    This is too bad. Really,

    buffs

    1. System clearly isn’t perfect. Some schools w/ lower ranked classes annually fare better than their ranking suggests (Wisconsin comes to mind), while others have been perennial underachievers (Texas). That said, Alabama, Clemson and Georgia seem to dominate the recruiting rankings and do so on the field as well. The NFL draft is another indication of the accuracy of the star rankings. Over 50% of five star rated recruits get drafted and it drops to 25% for four stars and even lower thereafter. Is it perfectly accurate? No. But there is a correlation to success and it’s not phony.
      https://247sports.com/Article/NFL-Draft-recruiting-rankings-go-hand-in-hand–117819292/

  36. Wilmer is a great addition. Forget the stars here. He can play. Gonna get beefed and muscled up and play linebacker.

    Like it.

    Buffs

  37. This is gonna be a real good class. Real good. Don’t forget the grey shirts that are set up.

    Man that Oline is young.

    Buffs

  38. Wow, all this time and energy spent on possible upcoming signees. Why don’t we just continue with the current team as is, Im recruiting statted out.

  39. Rivals says still another DB will be visiting soon. I will give up all my other Christmas presents if MM will just reel in a few more linemen this year, four star there too on either side of the ball.

  40. Remember when the University of Colorado in the John Embree era and the early Mike McIntyre era, we were competing for two and three star recruits from Weber State and mountain west schools etc. ? Yeah now we are competing for three and four star recruits were actually getting offers from the legit division one college football programs. Slowly but surely this thing is getting turned around. Keep them coming I am not complaining at all one bit about this recruiting class .

  41. Not to quibble with your poll, but I believe Paul Richardson went to a different Junipero Serra HS, in Gardena, and mr. luckett is from San Juan Capistrano. Still a great pickup obviously. Hope they can flip Jacob Bandes!

  42. Allen looks really good. Jumps off the tape in a significant way. Fast, agile, strong, and an explosive hitter. Doesn’t take great angles, but is fast and strong enough to make it an advantage, finishing off aggressive angles. I’m curious how that will translate at the next level. Very excited about him.

    1. They just hadn’t gotten to him yet (why, I don’t know).
He has since – in the hours after his commitment – been listed as a three-star commitment.

    1. Great list. Brought back a lot of memories from players I forgot about.

Would really like to see us re-establish a recruiting pipeline to Hawaii…

    2. Dont remember Russell Lovett but outside of Ryan Miller the other 5 in the first seven were either total busts, including Scott at no 1 or didnt exactly set the world on fire. Katoa was an additional embarrassment off the field. I wonder if that guy is still in jail.

      1. ep katoa was playing for , I think Adams state or one of those mountain schools just a couple years ago. crazy!

  43. Wow, A couple more 4 stars out there. Maybe 3. And Evans should already be a 4 star but since he didn’t go to all those camps he didn’t get it……yet. There are also 4 more commits that should be 4 stars……….guess who.

  44. Welp, lost a good oline guy to Stanford And a couple more oline guys as well.

Didn’t even recruit 2 of em.

    Oh well

Won’t know the real deal till number.

    Buffs.

NOte: 13th is coming up eh?

  45. Recruiting Team ranking in Pac 12

Note: Well that being ranked #2 in the pac 12 football recruiting on rivals lasted about 3 hours.

    Down to 3 now.

    Buffs.

Uh Oh another note: Don’t matter, I like this class and 6 + more to come. Some 4 stars in these for sure. Also several of the current commits can, should, will also end up 4 stars. Not that it matters. I like this class big time.

    1. Please don’t post premium content here.
I have a working relationship with the Rivals and 247 sites not to post their insider information.
Just because you and I pay for the information, it doesn’t give us the right to make it public …

      Thanks,
      Stuart

        1. Sorry, but I get to decide what gets posted here.
This is not a recruiting website. I only post names of prospects once they have publicly given CU their verbal commitment.
It would be appreciated it if you would respect that.

          Thanks,
          Stuart

  46. As I have said before, this is a real nice recruiting class. That ol young DL coach may be having the impact that has been missing for years. Wow. So next year Sami will be back as a RSF and hopefully Sami is that hidden gem and combined with this kid, the mighty Buffs could be looking real good on the d-line. What will this year be? Welp hoping for a bowl game . Next year? Really good bowl game.

    Close this class out.

4 star DL Bandes would be the icing.
4 star SDE Wright would be the cherry
    and
    1 more OT
    either
    3 star OL Fautanu
    or
    3 star OL Miller

    also
    4 star ILB Allen (JC)
    4 star WDE Graves (JC)
    3 star SDE Jackson (JC)

Can there be a close here that is unbelievable from a Mighty Buff standpoint.
Secret commits or silent commits whatever you call them. How many for the Buffs? How many flips positively for the Buffs. ( there may be one negative flip hanging out there)

    CU in 19

    Up the Buffalo

    1. might be time to “vultureize” any 4 or 5 stars that are wavering at Ohio St. Hard to believe not more quality D linemen are coming to the Buffs where they could play sooner than later.

  47. Up the Buffalo.

Recruiting rankings and recruit rankings and team recruiting rankings. Ol Hysteric into “driftland” Love that ride into the valley……..Grits or no grits…………Come on Grits………..Painful…yup but only for 1 more year………

Now ya have to give MickeyMac credit cause he did redo his coaching staff. Other than the Bernardi………they all be gone. (Of course with a little help and guidance from his boss) But that is what bosses do.

    Go Buffs.

Note: Average rank of recruit (that total stuff is jibberish) Buffs are 6th in the Pac. (247)

Note 2: Utah has 2 commits.

Note 3. Oregon…Only recruited 4 defensive backs. (For Stu 2 safeties, 2 cornerbacks) All 4 star though. and a 4 star and high 3 star DL..there lowest ranked recruit is .8609 with the average being .9160 Buffs average is .8522 Gonna need some great coaching from the Buffs to allow that “player make plays Players win games” mantra to be a reality……That saying is the ultimate coaches CYA mantra.

Note 4: Go Buffs whip the Ducks…….Next year at their own damn place.

Note 5: So Buffs get those two defensive tackles……you know who you/they are. Get in the black and gold baby…….

Late Note: So using rivals look at average stars for CU Recruiting classes…..

    2013 2.52
    2014 2.52
    2015 2.78
    2016 2.61
    2017 2.93
    2018 2.87
    2019 3.07

    Nice.

Late Note 2: And 247 composite you ask?

    2013 81.51
    2014 80.11
    2015 83.05
    2016 83.53
    2017 85.21
    2018 85.17
    2019 85.22

  48. Wait a minute? Another step in the right direction for our Buffs on the recruiting trail? Wow. I guess this staff just keeps getting lucky?

If this season unfolds as I think (and certainly there’s lots of hope w/ that thinking) and they get to 8-4 or so, the 2019 and 2020 classes will be rounding out very nicely. You know some of the higher level targets are wanting to see some more Ws before jumping on board.

The only problem with that when it happens (well, not for me)? Mac may sign another multi-year extension.

    Go Buffs!

    1. That first sentence has to be sarcasm. This is getting past nutso. If mac signs one more DB in this class I dont mind if he takes his ball back to grits land.

  49. I remember when it felt like all we could recruit were 2 star players with maybe a 3 star on each side of the ball. Now we have primarily 3 stars with a few 4 star player. Our 2016 breakthrough was primarily 1 and 2 star recruits, imagine what we can do with 3 and 4 stars. Go buffs

    1. Sko Buffs.

This an excellent get. Just excellent.

      Now get those
      two DT
      two DE
      two WR
      two OL
      three LB

And those Mighty Buffs will be rolling.

      Up the Buffalo

    2. And about those stars.

So many choices……………I chose ESPN recruiting

      Buffs 4 stars

      2017…………7 ( 7 2 points away)
      2018…………4 (2 1 point away, 2 2 points away)
      2019…………2 (1 1 point away, 1 2 points away)

      Up the buffs

  50. Well? I guess not only is the defensive backfield pretty well stocked w/ dudes – and there’s likely going to be some attrition for all the reasons there usually is – but? That should do it for defensive backs in the 2019 recruiting class, right?

    Whew.

Now, they can focus on some studs for the lines? Maybe? Running backs? There’s some other positions of need, I’m sure. I’m sure they’re on it, too.

    Go Buffs.

  51. Hilarious

    Current Roster

    24 DB’s including walkons. 6 Seniors

    13 WR’s 3 seniors.

Lotta DB’s. Wonder how that compares to other Pac12 teams. Check it out Stu. Could be interesting.

    Up the Buffalo

Note: What is most impressive is the Oline make up.

    1 Senior
    5 Juniors
    3 Sophomores
    6 RS Freshman
    4 Freshman

    5 2019 class. 3 committed. Probably 5

And there are some big boys in the rsf and f classes.

Note 2: DL Line Need about 5 this cycle.

      1. That is interesting, and maybe EP’s on to something, after all?

But, it’s not like they’re not after OL and DL guys, in addition to skill players though. It’s just that, for whatever reason, they go elsewhere (that “whatever reason” is likely the “lost decade” of CU football).

And then, when they do get some “dudes” on the line (Moretti, Miller, and more recently, Sami) they seem to battle injuries and they don’t yet have the numbers to battle that attrition, in the trenches.

Meanwhile, they are at least continuing to ramp up the DB U pipeline in the Pac 12, which cannot hurt. If your DB’s are studs, their QB has a hard time getting the ball out. That is the good news. The bad news is… they then just run it down their throat, like last year…

If this season goes where I think it will (8-ish wins) I think that tide will continue turning. It seems Drake may have a lot to do with that on the defensive line, as well.

To quote EPspeare “my kingdom for a D Lineman”, or two in this 2019 class.

        Go Buffs.

        1. 110 on the current Mighty Buff roster

          22% are Defensive Backs

with 22 starters (offense and defense… Special teams aside), and assuming 5 D-backs on the field…..well that is 22% of the starters.

19% are oline guys 22% of starters are oline dudes

WR are 12% of the roster………… 9 to 14% (2 or 3 wr on the field)

dL are 11% of the roster…………3 on the field is 14% of the starters

          etc etc etc.

          DLine is behind the curve

          Buffs

Note: Since 2012 the Buffs have allowed over 200 yards rushing per conference game except for 2016.. Finished 11 or 12 (6th in 2016)

Note 2: Pass defense rankings pac12 games

          12 9th
          13 10th
          14 6th
          15 2nd
          16 2nd
          17 10th

  52. Now Sami is gone for the season. If this keeps up Eliot will be known for the bend and shatter like glass defense
