November 30th Report: Mike Leach to be hired at Washington State Mike Leach has reached agreement to become the new football coach at Washington State. Washington State athletic Director Bill Moos said Tuesday he wanted a guy who produces “”flashy offenses.” Leach is among the flashiest. Oregon’s Chip Kelly now has two guys — Leach and Rodriguez — who want to match the Ducks ludicrous speed approach. Said Pac-12 defensive coordinators: “Drat.” Leach’s contract is for five years and will make him the third-highest paid coach in the Pac-12, CBS …

In the best offensive showing of the 11-game Jon Embree era, Colorado won it’s first-ever Pac-12 game in dominating Arizona, 48-29.

On a Senior Day when there was a chance that the 2011 Buffs would become the first Colorado team to fail to win a home game at Folsom Field, the Colorado seniors came up big. Senior running back Rodney Stewart had 24 carries for 181 yards and three touchdowns, while also contributing a touchdown passing. On the other end of that halfback pass for a score was senior quarterback Tyler Hansen, who went 16-for-26 for 213 yards and two touchdowns.

On a 57-degree afternoon with winds gusting as high as 62 mph, Colorado posted 500 yards of total offense for only the second time in 2011, while holding the opposition under 500 yards for the first time in six games. The Colorado defense, which had only four interceptions in the first ten games of the year, had three against Arizona quarterback Nick Foles.

Baylor 31, Colorado 25

//posted 10.16.2010

Colorado drove as far as the Baylor 19-yard line in the final minute, but a desperation pass from Tyler Hansen to Toney Clemons fell incomplete, preserving a 31-25 victory for the Baylor Bears in Boulder. The loss left the Buffs with a 3-3 record for the 2010 season, with bowl hopes, so much in view after Colorado upset Georgia to run its record to 3-1, suddenly fading.

The game started well for the Colorado offense, as the Buffs took the opening kickoff and marched from their 20-yard line to the 34-yard line of Baylor. The optimism which permeated through the sun-drenched crowd of 48,953 quickly dissipated, though, when junior quarterback Tyler Hansen was intercepted on a first-and-ten at the 34 by Baylor safety Byron Landor.

Setting up shop at the Colorado 46-yard line after Landor’s 32-yard return, Baylor quickly returned the favor of a turnover. On the Bears’ second play from scrimmage, running back Jay Findley fumbled, with junior safety Patrick Mahnke recovering for the Buffs at the Colorado 26-yard line.

Led by junior quarterback Tyler Hansen, a stout defensive effort, and a record-setting performance by wide receiver Scotty McKnight, the Buffs methodically took down the Rams before 60,989 on a 90-degree sun-baked day in Denver.
