— November 10th – at Iowa State No. 21 Colorado 40, Iowa State 27 — Senior tailback Cortlen Johnson became the first player in CU history to have over 100 yards rushing and receiving in the same game, leading the Buffs to a 40-27 win over Iowa State. — November 3rd – at Boulder No. 25 Colorado 38, Missouri 24 — Colorado spotted the Missouri a 14-0 second quarter lead before roaring back to take a 38-24 win at home over the Tigers. Bobby Pesavento, Cortlen Johnson, Bobby Purify, and Roman Hollowell each took turns leading the Buffs, who improved to 7-2 overall, 5-1 in the Big 12. — September 8th – Boulder Colorado 51, San Jose State 15 — Colorado demonstrated that the convincing victory over Colorado State was no fluke, amassing 560 yards of total offense in dominating San Jose State, 51-15. Sophomore Chris Brown scored three touchdowns in leading the Buffs’ balanced attack. — 2001 – National and Big 12 Recap — The Miami Hurricanes won the 2001 national championship, doing so in convincing fashion. The Hurricanes, under first-year head coach Larry Coker, finished the season 12-0, the nation’s only undefeated team. Miami capped its unblemished season with a 37-14 demolition of Nebraska in the Rose Bowl. — October 28th – Boulder Colorado 37, Oklahoma State 21 — Quarterback Craig Ochs became the first player in Colorado history to run for a touchdown, throw for a touchdown and catch a pass for a touchdown in the same game as the Buffs posted their first easy win of the year, a 37-21 decision over Oklahoma State. Ochs was not content to set just one record versus the Cowboys, however. On the day, Ochs surpassed freshman season records for passing attempts, completions, passing yards and total offense. — Preseason – 2000 — Looking forward to the 2000 Colorado football season, the proverbial glass could be seen as either being half empty or half full. On the positive side, the Buffs had played inspired football the second half of the 1999 season, a 7-5 campaign. — Recruiting 101 — Signing day, 2000, brought with it more than the usual buzz to Boulder, Colorado. After the 1999 recruiting class imploded due to the uncertainty of a coaching change, head coach Gary Barnett could not afford to have a second consecutive mediocre recruiting crop. Fortunately for the Buffs, Barnett delivered. At the top of the class was all-everything running back Marcus Houston.
