— National and Big Eight recap – 1991 — For the second consecutive year – after occurring only twice in the past twenty – the college football season ended with a split national championship. The Miami Hurricanes went 12-0 in 1991 to win the Associated Press title, it’s fourth championship in nine years. — Disneyland, here I come — I had missed Colorado=s first trip to the Freedom Bowl in Anaheim in 1985, but I did not want to miss this one. Plans were made to make the pilgrimage to California, which, of course, included meeting up with Brad. In 1983, the Miami Hurricanes won the school’s first national championship, a year after Penn State had won its first crown.
