1:20 p.m. … Josh Falo has sent out a tweet indicating that he is signing with USC …

1:00 p.m. … Could USC’s big day have an impact on CU’s recruiting Class? The Trojans are having a great Signing Day (bad), but their receiving commitments from so many last minute signees may work in CU’s favor. Tight end Josh Falo and defensive end Terrence Lang are both still on the board, and both were thought to be favoring USC. If the Trojans can’t take both, it might mean that the odd man out might be looking for another school to commit to …

11:30 a.m. … Three-star offensive lineman Casey Roddick, a long-time Cal commit, becomes the 26th Buff from the Class of 2017!

10:40 a.m. … Jacob Callier has sent in his Letter of Intent. Every prospect who had committed to Colorado heading into Signing Day stayed with the Buffs!

10:00 a.m. … Still waiting on defensive lineman Jacob Callier and, quite possibly, former Cal commit Casey Roddick. The three-star offensive lineman is the No. 33 offensive guard in the nation, and is considered to be a likely flip to Colorado.

9:50 a.m. … With early enrollees and junior college transfers, the CU Class is at 25 members … with a few prospects still in play …

9:40 a.m. … Quotes from ESPN talking heads after Mike MacIntyre was on … “When you do consider Colorado, where this job was when Mike MacIntyre took it over. The losses they are going to have off of their current roster. I think that they have established enough goodwill, and enough increase in perception, that this program will far outweigh what anyone expected it to be at this early stage in his tenure. I think that there is a little bit of a shine back on that Golden Buffs helmet that they’ve been lacking … We’ve never had a representative (on Signing Day) at the University of Colorado. I think it shows how far they have come” … “But now the question is: Can they sustain it? Losing Leavitt was a big deal. Losing experienced defensive starters. They did a lot, and they could do that because they had experienced players, now, can they sustain it?” … “There are some players in this Class that I think could end up being that foundation” …

9:35 a.m. … He didn’t defect! Three-star defensive back Chris Miller, who appeared to have been lost, has stayed with the Buffs, sending in his Letter of Intent!

9:25 a.m. … CU officially adds a Letter of Intent from a player who was not previously committed to the Buffs. Three-star tight end Jared Poplawski is now a Buff!

9:10 a.m. … Mike MacIntyre on ESPN … Interview atop the Champions Center with Kris Budden … “Our coaches have done an excellent job on the road recruiting, and our players when the recruits come on campus, they love CU, and what we’ve done on the field … we’re expecting a lot of good signings today … Not much sleep. I was pretty much texting back and forth with kids all night … My wife told me this morning, ‘make sure you get ’em, or don’t come home’ … We put in a process about two years ago. We made our recruiting area bigger and more productive. We are able to evaluate kids quicker … Our coaching staff made a lot of great relationships. As people got to know us and see our facilities, we made a lot of inroads, which has culminated in an excellent Class this year” …

9:00 a.m. … The only CU commits which have yet to be heard from are defensive lineman Jacob Callier and defensive back Chris Miller. As noted, Chris Miller was supposed to have defected to Baylor, but social media now has him as staying with the Buffs. Callier is in California, and is still expected to sign with the Buffs ….

8:45 a.m. … Social media also has former Arizona State commit Jared Poplawski flipping to Colorado. Poplawski is a three-star tight end prospect from Scottsdale, Arizona … Still waiting on confirmation of the receipt of his Letter of Intent …

8:40 a.m. … Is Chris Miller sticking with his commitment to Colorado? Social media has him signing with the Buffs, but the Letter of Intent has not yet come in …

8:25 a.m. … Sebastian Olver, an athlete who could play tight end or along the defensive line, becomes new Buff No. 14 of the morning, and the No. 23 member of the Recruiting Class of 2017

8:20 a.m. … West coast signees sending in their Letters of Intent … Lucky No. 13 LOI of the morning comes from linebacker Chase Newman of La Mirada, California …

7:40 a.m. … One of the last recruits to commit to the Buffs making it official … Defensive back Jalen Sami becomes the tenth new Buff this morning …

7:30 a.m. … Finally get a chance to take a breath … Cornerback Chris Miller, presently a CU commit, but rumored to be heading to Baylor, will make his announcement at the top of the hour …

7:25 a.m. … Hard to keep up … Defensive back Kevin George has sent in his Letter of Intent, as has linebacker Jonathan Van Diest

7:15 a.m. … First Colorado player of the morning, as offensive lineman Heston Paige has faxed in his Letter of Intent to the Champions Center

7:05 a.m. … Wide receiver Laviska Shenault, Jr., from DeSoto, Texas, joins his teammate, K.D. Nixon, as a new member of the Buff family (no word yet on whether the third member of the DeSoto Three, offensive lineman Xavier Newman, will come back to the fold, or will stick with his third commitment, to Baylor (after having first committed to Texas and then Colorado

7:00 a.m. … Thought we’d be getting started about now, but already there are a number of new Buffs. No. 5 on the list of players who have sent in their Letters of Intent today is running back Alex Fontenot from Richmond, Texas

6:50 a.m. … Nice to hear from Florida … linebacker Carson Wells, from Bushnell, Florida, has faxed in his LOI …

6:40 a.m. … Getting started early … First new Buff on February 1st is wide receiver K.D. Nixon from DeSoto, Texas … joined shortly thereafter by offensive lineman Grant Polley from Denton, Texas. There had been concerns about both players defecting, what with new coaches at both Texas and Baylor, but both have become Buffs …

    1. Rivals is still showing Lang as a USC verbal, but not as signing a Letter of Intent.
Scout is showing Lang as a “soft verbal” … so stay tuned.

  1. Thanks Stuart and sponsor Eric. Good concise format and not a lot of baloney!

Buffs did a nice job this year with a good P5 quality class. Aside from USC, CU was very competitive with their Pac12 peers. Need to keep recruiting like this for a few more years and the holes will start filling in and the classes will balance out.

    1. They need to insert the TE way more into the offense as part of the passing game. If they have to keep using the TE to block all the time then why not just use another offensive lineman instead and admit that they can’t run an offense with the OL players and need an extra blocker (TE). That is just dumb. I don’t care what kind of offense one runs, those that utilize the TE as a pass catcher are usually more successful. Keep up the TE conversation ep.

      1. Maybe send a few pictures of some successful TE’s too. Maybe Lingren can call an alternative play to the standard “RO-give to Lindsey or run Sefo”. Not sure how they thought that stupid play would fool anyone after game 6.

      2. One of Sefo’s issues was his inability to see an open TE or hit an open TE! Montez, Noyer or Lytle should all fare much better. Each is more accurate than Sefo and further along in development.

There will be a TE used in this offense, don’t worry your fuzzy little head about it.

What I really like is that there is now sufficient size and talent on both lines that each unit will make the other that much better in practice; much as the WRs and DBs are doing!

  2. As of 12:23 pm (EDT – I’m in NJ) the Buffs’ official Twitter account announced Jacob Callier as “signed”. Very nice NLI Day for Coach Mac and his coaching staff. How many days until the season opener?

    Love the Ticker, Stuart!

  3. You’ve got to question anyone’s judgment that chooses Baylor. I’m more concerned about the guys we get not the one’s we don’t.
