The Ticker

Here is a link to a 30-page pdf file from cubuffs.com which contains all the Signing Day notes, along with the biographies of all of the new Buffs.

– 2:30 p.m. – The two late possible additions are going elsewhere. Cornerback Lorenzo Burns signed with Arizona, while defensive end Keanu Saleapaga signed with BYU.

– 10:25 a.m. – Despite being the second consecutive class with under 20 recruits (the Classes of 2017 and 2018 will be huge), the CU Class of 2016 will be ranked the third-highest in the past ten years (behind only 2008 and 2012). CU picks up its first Rivals 250 recruit (Bisharat) since 2012.

– 10:15 a.m. – Another player who will not be returning, sophomore tight end Hayden Jones, who is leaving the team for personal reasons.

– 10:05 a.m. – To help make way for the Recruiting Class of 2016, several fifth-year seniors had to be dropped from the roster for 2016. Four seniors who will graduate this spring, but will not be using their fifth year of eligibility include: defensive tackle Clay Norgard; cornerbacks Yuri Wright and John Walker; and defensive end De’Jon Wilson

– 9:55 a.m. – Linebacker Akil Jones is a Buff … Every player who had given a verbal commitment to Colorado signed with the Buffs today. One more potential addition would be cornerback Lorenzo Burns … unless the coaches have some other prospect we haven’t heard about …

– 9:45 a.m. – One of the highest-upside recruits of the Class, defensive end/outside linebacker Pookie Maka, is now a Buff!

– 9:35 a.m. – Still left on the board … LB Akil Jones … DE/LB Pookie Maka … and, perhaps, CB Lorenzo Burns

– 9:20 a.m. – Two skill position players are in … wide receiver Johnny Huntley and running back/athlete Anthony Julmisse have joined the Buffs!

– 9:15 a.m. – Quarterback Sam Noyer and offensive lineman Colby Pursell added to the list … Some commits still on CU’s verbal list … DE/LB Pookie Maka … RB/Athlete Anthony Julmisse … LB Akil Jones … WR Johnny Huntley

– 9:05 a.m. – List up to 12. Still waiting to hear from over a half dozen verbal commits. Cornerback Lorenzo Burns still on the list of possible Signing Day surprises. Sounds like defensive end Keanu Saleapaga will be signing with BYU.

– 8:50 a.m. – Defensive back Trey Udoffia has officially become a Buff. An early commit, Udoffia was subject to a late push by Washington, but Udoffia stayed with Colorado.

– 8:40 a.m. – It’s official!!!! Four-star running back Beau Bisharat has sent in his Letter of Intent, and will be a Buff. Bisharat had offers from every school in the Pac-12, and is a former Stanford commit (added bonus: Nebraska fans were convinced that Bisharat would forego signing with anyone today, and would take an official visit to Lincoln this weekend).

– 8:35 a.m. – Former Texas Tech quarterback Davis Webb commits to the Buff. A graduating senior, Webb won’t officially become a Buff until he graduates in May (instead of a Letter of Intent, he has signed a Financial Aid agreement). Still, this is as committed as a transferring senior can be … so welcome, Mr. Webb!!

– 8:25 a.m. – Junior college wide receiver Juwann Winfree is officially a Buff! The former four-star recruit from the Class of 2014 played as a freshman at Maryland in 2014, and was at Coffeyville Community College in Kansas last season. Winfree will have three seasons to play two.

– 8:10 a.m. – Still holding at eight commitments … over half of the CU Recruiting Class of 2016 to be heard from …

– 7:50 a.m. – Offensive lineman Chance Lytle joins the Buffs

– 7:35 a.m. – In-state offensive lineman prospect Terriek Roberts added to the confirmed signed list

– 7:30 a.m. – Four-star running back Beau Bisharat has tweeted: “I have decided to commit to the University of Colorado”. Hard to not get excited, but until the fax comes in …

– 7:20 a.m. – Linebacker Drew Lewis and Offensive lineman Hunter Vaughn confirmed …

– 7:10 a.m. – Early commits confirmed by Colorado before breakfast … Defensive back Ronnie Blackmon … Wide receiver Darrion Rakestraw … Defensive back Ca’Ron Baham

  1. Tuff to see Norgard go. A class act and a legacy buff. Was expecting Rippy to be gone before a guy like Norgard. Jones is a mild surprise to lose.

But the talent coming in looks great; very solid class. Only bummer was losing Keanu, otherwise very happy.

Gonna send a lb of coffee to Chiv. #coffeeisforclosers
    He earned it today

  2. Hate to see the news on Clay Norgard. That guy has done everything and more asked of him. He will succeed at anything he does with his “can-do/ will-do” attitude. What a great teammate, I hope this works for him!

Wish him the best as he moves on!

  3. I’m a Jersey guy. I am thrilled to see that Yuri Wright, who starred at Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey, NJ, is graduating this year. Very happy for him. He may, however, also serve as a cautionary tale regarding the “*” system for ranking high school players. He was extremely heavily-recruited, high-school All-American, and either a 4* or 5* recruit coming out of high school whose college football career did not approach those expectations.

I do not know what factors, if any, contributed to the reality of his on-the-field career not mirroring the expectation level. I give him credit, though, for apparently taking care of the off-the-field part of college, which will position him to graduate with a degree that will hopefully serve him well for the foreseeable future.

    1. Well said, Wright was always the guy I wondered why never really got into the action especially being such a big deal when he signed.

  4. Faxes, who the heck faxes paperwork these days???? The NCAA really needs to go to a better technology, like a website that the player can commit to online so old people like me don’t die before the day is over.

Thanks Stuart for doing this so I don’t have too, but I am waiting for the IT department to shut me off from this website!!
