CU Moose in Alaska

The Buff Nation knows no boundaries!

Below are pictures submitted by CU at the Gamers Antonio and Willow Monterrosa, getting up close and personal with a moose in Alaska.

Disclaimer: Do not try this at home. Willow and Antonio are both professionals, with three CU degrees between them!

Embree talks recruiting

B.G. Brooks of cubuffs.com did an interview with Colorado head coach Jon Embree, which is important enough to reproduce in its entirety here …

1.    CUBuffs.com: The current dead period ends Jan. 4, and I’m assuming you’ll hit the road immediately. What direction will you head?

Jon Embree: “That’s right . . . and I’m heading West, to Hawaii and California. It’ll be my first trip to Hawaii and second to California.”

•2.    CUBuffs.com: What’s the biggest difference in this recruiting season and last – taking into account the full season you’ve had as opposed to last year?

JE: “The biggest difference is…

*denotes status for the 2012 season.

Commitments for the Class of 2012

While technically not a member of the recruiting Class of 2012, transfer Connor Wood still deserves mention here. Wood was a member of the high school recruiting Class of 2010, committing to play for Texas. Wood did not play for the Longhorns, opting to transfer instead. Wood enrolled in school in Boulder in late August, and will be eligible (three seasons remaining) come the start of the 2012 season. While…

Stoppin’ by for a Visit – December 10th

The number of known visitors grew by two on Thursday, with two running back prospects added to the list. One is Ryan Lewis out of Sammamish, Washington, who is being recruited by Colorado as a cornerback. The other is a name known to Buff fans, Terrence Crowder, out of Galena Park, Texas. Crowder has been a CU commit since June, and his bio can be found below.

Then, on Friday, a ninth visitor was disclosed, Trevor Stevens, a tight end prospect from Friendswood, Texas.

There are also reports – unconfirmed by either Rivals or Scout (which still has the official visit list at six) – that four-star cornerback prospect Marcus Rios could be taking an official visit to Colorado this weekend. Again, this is as of yet is unconfirmed, but I’ve posted his bio below, just to get you salavating about a weekend in which both Marcus Rios and Yuri Wright commit to becoming Buffs (ahh, dare to dream!).

Weather forecast for the weekend: sunny, with highs near 50 degrees. Flatirons (and the CU men’s basketball team vs. Wyoming!) – do your stuff!

Here are the players reported to be on the

The Survey Says …

The Survey Says …

First, my thanks to all of you who participated in the recent CU at the Game Survey. There were several hundred responses, and most of you took the time to submit comments and suggestions as to how to make CU at the Game a better website.

So, what did we learn?

CU at the Gamers

The makeup of those who check in with CU at the Game is divided fairly evenly amongst the age ranges. The plurality (28%) are between 35-45, but that group is followed closely by the 25-34 age range (25%) and the 46-55 group (24%). The under-represented group is the 18-24 age group, which makes up only about 5% of the CU at the Game regulars. The translation here is that the website is not reaching current students in Boulder. Not a real surprise, but something I’d like to work on.

The readership is overwhelmingly male – not a surprise at all – at over 90%. But there are some women CU at the Gamers out there (hang in there, BuffLady!).

When asked about your connection to the Buffs, there were some interesting numbers. Two-thirds of you are CU alumni, but only just…

Stoppin’ By for a Visit

(Program note: I will be supplementing this list with more information about each potential recruit over the next few days, but I wanted to get the list out early, as it is extensive)

December 2nd – One more out

The guest list now appears to be set, with one name taken off the list on Friday.

Briefly added to the list was Alex Cehchir, a junior college offensive tackle (who turns out to be Alexandru Ceachir by another name, info below). Dropped from the list was running back Keith Parker.

December 1st - Four more added to the official visit list

And then there were Fourteen

The list of players taking their official visits to Boulder this weekend continues to grow, with three more names (including two four-star players) added to the list on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the weather forecast continues to disappoint, with a 29-degree day and snow flurries predicted. Not bad, but not exactly show off the Flatirons kind of weather, either.

If you have checked in previously, the new additions (including another CU commit), are defensive end Morgan Breslin and linebacker Deaysean Rippy – both four star players, as well as three-star guard Steven Moore.…

Report: Mike Leach to be hired at Washington State

Mike Leach has reached agreement to become the new football coach at Washington State.

Washington State athletic Director Bill Moos said Tuesday he wanted a guy who produces “”flashy offenses.” Leach is among the flashiest. Oregon’s Chip Kelly now has two guys — Leach and Rodriguez — who want to match the Ducks ludicrous speed approach.

Said Pac-12 defensive coordinators: “Drat.”

Leach’s contract is for five years and will make him the third-highest paid coach in the Pac-12, CBS Sports reported, citing an unnamed source. That means he will eclipse Washington’s Steve Sarkisian, who makes $2,250,000 annually.

Wulff was the Pac-12′s lowest paid coach at $600,000 … leaving Colorado’s Jon Embree, at $750,000 per year, as the lowest paid coach in the Pac-12 (and by a wide margin).

The hiring of Leach signals a big transformation in thinking in Pullman. And an expectations of big results.

According to ESPN’s Ted Miller, the job sets up well for Leach, too. He’s got two quarterbacks, junior Jeff Tuel and redshirt freshman Connor Halliday, who might be more talented as passers than any of the QBs who put up big numbers for Leach…
