— September 24th – at Miami           No. 12 Miami 23, Colorado 3 — Miami quarterback Kyle Wright passed for 264 yards and a touchdown, and ran for another score, leading No. 12 Miami to a methodical 23-3 dismantling of Colorado. The Buffs turned the ball over three times against the Hurricanes, and committed seventeen penalties, wilting in the 86-degree Florida heat (with 70 percent humidity).   — November 19th – Boulder                       No. 7 Colorado 41, Iowa State 20 — A game between a 9-1 team and an 0-9-1 to finish off the regular season would normally not bear much attention.  The 41-20 final score, after the Buffs nursed a 20-13 lead into the fourth quarter, would not have merited much notice nationally. Iowa), the Buffs raced to a 14-0 lead on their way to 24-21 upset. Versus 13th-rated Oklahoma State, Colorado again opened strong. A three-yard scoring run by quarterback Sal Aunese gave Colorado a 7-0 lead six minutes into the game. That was about it, however, for the Buffs’ chances at an upset. There were no fourth quarter heroics in Colorado’s Big Eight opener, …

— October 10th – at Oklahoma State           No. 19 Oklahoma State 42, Colorado 17 — The last time the Buffs played on my birthday, they were thumped by Nebraska 59-0 in 1981. I should have recognized the omen. Beaten early and often, the Buffs surrendered three touchdowns and 137 yards on the ground. Leading the charge was Thurman Thomas, who sliced through the Buffs for 110 yards on 23 carries and a five-yard touchdown run. Through the air, Oklahoma State added 257 yards and two more …
