2010 Season
September 11th – @ California California 52, Colorado 7
Pac-10 commissioner Larry Scott indicated this weekend that the chances of Colorado moving to the Pac-12 in 2011 are “worse than 50-50″. Scott did not rule out the chance that Colorado and the Big 12 will work out their differences in time for a move next season, but the Pac-10 may go with 11 teams next fall. “It sounds like some discussion (with the Big 12) is going on,” said Scott, “but they (CU athletic director Mike Bohn and CU chancellor Phil DiStefano) are pessimistic (about 2011), and are thinking 2012″.
The way the Buffs played against Cal from the Pac-10 in week two of the 2010 season, waiting another year might not be a bad idea …
Fact: Colorado hasn’t won a road game since 2007.
Reality: If the effort against California in Berkeley is any indication, the Buffs are not likely to win on the road anytime soon.
Colorado turned the ball over five times, including interception and fumble returns for touchdowns, as the Buffs wiped away all of the confidence gained from the opening win over Colorado State, falling 52-7 to California.
The Buffs were their own worst enemies in the first…

Conventional Wisdom
The more things change, the more they stay the same …
In year five of the Dan Hawkins’ era, the Colorado Buffaloes have taken all of two games to demonstrate that there is nothing new in Boulder in 2010. Hope for something different was raised over the summer – Tyler Hansen was named quarterback, there was an influx of wide receiver talent, and an upperclass laden depth chart insisted that the old days of games with multiple penalties, multiple mistakes, and blowout losses were a thing of the past.
Well, this year Buff fans at least made it past Labor Day before disappointment set in.
What is truly hard to understand is how the Colorado football program under Dan Hawkins continues to defy Conventional Wisdom. There are certain tenants in college football, certain truisms most fans and observers accept – but Dan Hawkins seems to consistently cut against the grain.
For instance, Conventional Wisdom holds that teams make their greatest strides each season between game one and game two. The well accepted theory is that for each team, every new season represents a new blend of players, and, no matter how much players beat up on one another during spring and fall practices, coaches don’t know…

“T.I.P.S.” for taking on the California Bears
Leading up to the 2010 season opener against Colorado State, Buff fans were anxious - to say the least - about the 2010 season.
Coming off a 3-9 season, the Buffs were a mystery. There were reasons for budding confidence – new speed at wide receiver; Tyler Hansen was named the starting quarterback; three offensive linemen were on national award watch lists; the Buffs’ defensive line had another year’s worth of experience; and All-American candidates were positioned at both cornerback position.
Still, the questions lingered – there were the unforgettable memories of the back-to-back debacles against Colorado State and Toledo to open the 2009 season; there was a decided lack of depth at running back; the Buffs’ possessed special teams’ units often unsuitable for viewing by women and small children; and there was, of course, the elephant in the room: Dan Hawkins’ 16-33 overall record.
Colorado State had problems of its own, but the Rams had nine months to focus all of their attention on the Buffs, knowing that one win would cure many of the ills which had befallen the Rams in their 3-9 2009 season. The Rams also had the swagger borne from the 23-17 defeat of the Buffs, at Folsom Field no less,…

Fearless Forecasts
It’s Friday, so it’ s time for the Friday Fearless Forecasts. The Forecasts are not exactly predictions for which you can find odds in Las Vegas (but, if you could, you would clean up). Last week: The Fearless Forecasts went three-for-three, so let’s see what predictions you can take to the bank this weekend …
1) Two Buffs will join the 2,000-yard club. Quarterback Tyler Hansen, with 192 yards passing against Colorado State, now has 1,912 passing yards for his career. This Saturday, Hansen will become the 19th quarterback in Colorado history to pass for more than 2,000 yards. Up next on the list for Hansen is the No. 18 all-time quarterback, Jeff Knapple, who passed for 2,107 yards in his career at Colorado (1976-77).
The other Buff joining the 2,000-yard club against Cal should be wide receiver Scotty McKnight. Already in possession of several Colorado receiving records, McKnight, who had 78 yards receiving against the Rams, is now just 22 yards shy of 2,000 yards receiving for his career. Upon gaining those 22 yards, McKnight will become just the 7th Buff to eclipse that barrier, with No. 6 on the list, Javon Green, (2,031 yards; 1997-2000), and…
