Colorado blew a 14-0 first half lead for the second week in succession, falling on the road to TCU, 35-21. The Buffs committed four turnovers, including three interceptions by quarterback Kaidon Salter. The final score was not indicative of the game, with the Horned Frogs not surging past CU in total yards (369-343) until a salt-in-the-wound 21-yard touchdown pass from TCU quarterback Josh Hoover to wide receiver Eric McAllister with 19 seconds remaining.

Kaidon Salter finished 18-for-29 for 217 yards, with two passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown. Both passing touchdowns went to Omarion Miller, going for six yards in the first half and 31 yards in the second.

“It’s one thing to lose, then it’s another thing to feel like you beat yourselves,” Coach Prime said of the loss. “When you’re beating beaten – we were beaten in Houston, but these other games we had opportunity, ample opportunity, to win the games.

“It’s frustrating because I’m seeing what you see. I felt like, and this is no disrespect to TCU, because they’re well-coached, they did a wonderful job, the quarterback made plays; I feel like we’re the better team. I felt like that last week, the week before. But yet we’re still in this situation.”

The loss left the Buffs with a 2-4 overall record, 0-3 in Big 12 play, tied with West Virginia for the worst record in the Big 12.

Colorado 37, Wyoming 20

Ralphie VII made her debut in style, leading the Buffs onto the field before the second-largest Folsom Field crowd in 17 years (53,422), with the Buffs going on to defeat Wyoming, 37-20.  Quarterback Kaidon Salter more than did his part, returning to the starting lineup after sitting out the loss to Houston the previous weekend. Salter passed for 304 yards and three touchdowns, completing scoring passes of 29 yards to Omarion Miller, 68 yards to Sincere Brown, and 47 yards to Joseph Williams while also running for 86 yards and a 35-yard touchdown run on 11 carries.

“Every chance that I got today, I tried to take advantage of the opportunity,” Salter explained. “And I know that I got big guys out there, big playmakers, and if I throw it up, it’s 75/25 their way.”

Overall, the Buffs had 497 yards of total offense, including 193 yards on the ground. Wyoming did not go quietly, keeping the game close throughout much of the evening, but the Cowboys were never closer than two scores after the Buffs took a 14-3 lead early in the second quarter.

“Kaidon Salter came back and played his butt off,” Coach Prime said of his starting quarterback. “He had a couple of downs, but the majority were ups, which overshadowed the downs, and he made some plays that a quarterback is going to  have to do off script. And he made it happen. The timing was impeccable, and he made some big throws, some big runs, especially the run at the end. That’s the guy we wanted to see, and we’re seeing him at his best. I’m glad you’re getting the chance to see him shine. He hasn’t reached that potential yet, but he’s getting more and more comfortable with everything.”

It’s never easy being a Buff fan.

To be fair, I guess you could say that about almost any sports fan, as no team wins every game. No team meets every expectation.

But it’s been a tough two decades for the Buff Nation. There have been only a few precious moments in the sun in the last 20 years, with only a few seasons of meeting – or exceeding – expectations.

More often than not, CU fans have left Folsom Field the past 20 years or so with another loss. And while recent success under Coach Prime has restored the faith of many long time fans, we still are not too far removed from the “bad old days”.

No. 21 Colorado rallied from a 13-0 first quarter deficit to take down Texas Tech, 41-27. A sellout crowd and Fox Big Noon Saturday’s first trip to Lubbock helped the Red Raiders take an early advantage, but the Buffs fought back … looked to turn the game into a rout … then squandered chances to put the game away. Finally, Shilo Sanders returned a fumble six yards for a touchdown with less than a minute to finally end the upset bid by the Red Raiders.

Shedeur Sanders completed 30-of-43 passes for 291 yards and three touchdowns, with Travis Hunter collecting nine passes for 99 yards and a 24-yard touchdown. The Colorado defense, scored upon on Texas Tech’s first three drives of the game, came through time and time again in the second half with sacks and turnovers to help CU get to 7-2 for the first time since 2016. The Buff defense finished with three turnovers (all in the fourth quarter) and six sacks.

Colorado finished with 351 yards of total offense. Texas Tech had 388 yards of total offense, including 180 yards in the fourth quarter, a quarter in which the Red Raiders settled for only seven points.

“It’s almost like they got to get hit in the face,” Coach Prime said of his team’s slow start. “They got to get slapped. They got to feel it and I don’t know why we’re like that, because we do everything in our power, even the way we script practices, to get started fast. The emphasis is let’s get out to a good start. Because we know if we get out to a good start, the sky’s the limit.”

The win gave Colorado a 7-2 overall record, 5-1 in Big 12 play. With three games remaining in the regular season, the Buffs, coupled with Iowa State’s second consecutive loss, took control of their own destiny when it came to playing for the Big 12 championship game. Wins over Utah, Kansas, and Oklahoma State would guarantee the Buffs a spot in the title game, regardless of the outcome of any other Big 12 games.

Colorado 34, Arizona 7

Colorado dominated on both sides of the ball in picking up a second consecutive Big 12 road romp, defeating Arizona, 34-7. The Buffs went for 398 yards of total offense, while holding the Wildcats to 245 total yards. CU quarterback Shedeur Sanders completed 23-of-33 passes for 250 yards and two touchdowns, while also running for a score. LaJohntay Wester collected eight catches for 127 yards, while Will Sheppard and Drelon Miller had receiving touchdowns.

On defense, the Buffs not only held the Wildcats out of the end zone for the final three quarters, but did so in convincing fashion. CU collected seven sacks, with two each from by Samuel Okunlola and Keaten Wade, while forcing three turnovers.

“Wonderful game, wonderful victory,” Coach Prime said. “Offense, defense, collectively, both units played great.

“We played a balanced game. We really did. And I’m proud of the young men. I’m proud of the coaches. They called a phenomenal game. Special teams as well.”
