  September 26th – Boulder          #10 Colorado 28, Iowa 12 Surviving the Minnesota game allowed Colorado to return to the top ten in the polls for the first time since finishing ranked No. 1 at the end of the 1990 season.  Colorado’s final non-conference opponent for the 1992 season was the Iowa Hawkeyes in Boulder.  The Hawkeyes had begun the year ranked 16th in the nation, but had fallen out of the polls after succumbing to North Carolina State and co-defending National Champion Miami before rebounding against Iowa State.  Iowa …

— September 19th – at Minnesota          No. 11 Colorado 21, Minnesota 20 — The third game of Colorado’s 1992 season was played at night (6:00 p.m local time kickoff), and was played indoors (at the Metrodome in Minneapolis).  Whether the Buffs were confused by the surroundings or the time of day is unclear, but the 17-0 deficit Colorado found itself in midway through the third quarter was no mistake. — September 12th – at Baylor          No. 12 Colorado 57, Baylor 38 — Heading off to Waco for the second game of the 1992 season, there was no chance Colorado was going to take the Baylor Bears lightly. Baylor had defeated the Buffs 16-14 at Folsom Field in 1991, led by quarterback J.J. Joe’s 301 yards of total offense. Traveling to Waco for only the third time in school history, Colorado exacted a measure of revenge for the 1991 upset in routing the Bears, 57-38.  Kordell …

— September 5th –Boulder          No. 12 Colorado 37, Colorado State 17 — The 1992 season-opener had all the makings of a disaster. The Colorado/Colorado State game was the renewal of an intra-state rivalry, which always meant a hard-fought game.  In addition, the Buffs were risking state and national embarrassment if their new offense failed to produce against a Colorado State squad which had stumbled to a 3-8 record in 1991.
