— November 5th – Boulder          No. 25 Colorado 41, Missouri 12 — Senior running back Lawrence Vickers rushed for 85 yards and four touchdowns, leading Colorado to a 41-12 win over Missouri in Boulder. The victory put the Buffs in the driver’s seat in the race for the Big 12 North Division crown, giving Colorado a two game lead on the division with two games to play. Brad Smith, who would become the NCAA’s all-time leading rusher for quarterbacks during the game, was held to just 16 yards on 13 carries …

— October 18th – at Kansas State           Kansas State 49, Colorado 20 — Kansas State quarterback Eli Roberson threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more in leading the Wildcats to a 49-20 rout of Colorado. Roberson’s final touchdown, a one-yard run with 35 seconds remaining, capped a 34-7 second half domination of the Buffs. In allowing over 40 points in a fifth consecutive game, the Colorado defense collapsed after a decent showing in the first half. — December 28th – Alamo Bowl           Wisconsin 31, No. 14 Colorado 28 – OT — Sophomore kicker Mike Allen connected from 37 yards out to lift the Wisconsin Badgers to a 31-28 overtime win over Colorado in the Alamo Bowl. Allen’s kick capped a fourth quarter rally by the Badgers, who won for the seventh time in eight bowl games under head coach Barry Alverez. — October 26th – Boulder           No. 21 Colorado 37, Texas Tech 13 — Texas Tech quarterback Kliff Kingsbury came to Boulder as the nation’s leader in pass completions, attempts, yards passing and touchdowns. Kingsbury left town with a sore arm, no touchdowns, and a loss, as the Colorado defense rose to the occasion in leading the Buffs to a convincing 37-13 win.   National and Big 12 Recap Ohio State won its fifth national title at the 2003 Fiesta Bowl, defeating Miami, 31-24, in two overtimes. The 2nd-ranked Buckeyes, 13-point underdogs to the Hurricanes, were led by freshman running back Maurice Clarett. Clarett scored on a five-yard run in Ohio State’s second overtime possession, and when Miami quarterback Ken Dorsey’s fourth-down pass fell incomplete, the 14-0 Buckeyes were the nation’s only undefeated team.
