  — September 2nd – at Denver           Colorado State 28, No. 23 Colorado 24 — The third and (at the time) final edition of the Rocky Mountain Showdown produced a close, intense game the promoters had hoped for from the beginning. The 1998 and 1999 Mile High Stadium showcases had resulted in routs, but the 2000 game between Colorado and Colorado State remained in doubt all afternoon, with the CSU Rams coming from ten points down to defeat the Buffs, 28-24. — October 30th – Boulder           Colorado 38, No. 24 Oklahoma 24 — Mike Moschetti, showing no ill effects from a concussion which had sidelined him a week earlier, threw for four touchdowns and ran for another as Colorado upended 24th-ranked Oklahoma, 38-24. Moschetti completed 22-of-31 attempts for 382 yards, including scoring passes of 49 and 88 yards to junior wide receiver Javon Green, on his way to being named the Big 12 Offensive Player-of-the-Week. — September 18th – Boulder           Colorado 51, Kansas 17 — Colorado continued to distance itself from the opening game debacle against Colorado State, raising its record to 2-1 (1-0 in Big 12 play) by dismantling Kansas, 51-17. Scoring over 50 points in consecutive games for the first time since 1923, the Buffs scored on their opening drive and never looked back.
