— September 5th –Boulder          No. 12 Colorado 37, Colorado State 17 — The 1992 season-opener had all the makings of a disaster. The Colorado/Colorado State game was the renewal of an intra-state rivalry, which always meant a hard-fought game.  In addition, the Buffs were risking state and national embarrassment if their new offense failed to produce against a Colorado State squad which had stumbled to a 3-8 record in 1991. Sal Aunese received his first start as quarterback for the Buffs, and responded with Colorado’s first 100+ yard passing effort of the season. Aunese’s stats: four-of-six passing, 139 yards and one touchdown. The 139 total yards were somewhat inflated, though, by a 79-yard touchdown pass to senior split end …

— September 21st – Boulder           No. 7 Ohio State 36, Colorado 13 — Colorado in 1984: one win in eleven tries. Colorado in 1985: two for two. Bring on Ohio State? In 1983, Colorado had been in a fairly similar situation. The Buffs had a 2-1 record, and were riding high heading into the Notre Dame game. The Buffs, however, were summarily put in their place by the Fighting Irish, 27-3. Sporting a 2-0 record in 1985, the Buffs were again optimistic, only to again be spanked by a national power, falling to Ohio …
